Hamlet M. Kennedy

Mr. Hamlet M. Kennedy, 89, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, May 23, 2017, at his residence in Louisville, Mississippi. Visitation will be Thursday, May 25, 2017, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Nowell Massey Funeral Home in Louisville, Mississippi. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 26, 2017, in the Nowell Massey Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Owen Gordon, Jr., officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Hamlet was born January 15, 1928, to Leland and Gersel Files Kennedy. He attended Whitehall United Methodist Church and he is a 32nd degree Mason in Louisville Lodge #75. He answered the call of his country by serving 20 years in the United States Army. After retiring from the U. S. Army, he began a second career at Taylor Machine Works. Following his retirement at Taylor’s, working in his garden provided both contentment and relaxation. He loved passing along the wisdom of the greatest generation by providing guidance for those generations that followed. Quietly, he helped others through financial or family situations wanting no recognition for any assistance he provided.

Mr. Kennedy is survived by two daughters, Tammy Castle and husband, Ricky, of Louisville; and Debbie Farris of Mobile, Alabama; and two sons, Eugene Kennedy also of Louisville; and Hamlet “Buster” Kennedy and wife, Kaye, of Gulf Shores, Alabama. Hamlet leaves behind two sisters, Doris Zane Gordon of McCool, Mississippi; and Mary Nell Furr of Biloxi, Mississippi; and a sister-in-law, Sharon Kennedy of Louisville. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Edith Kennedy; son Michael Kennedy; daughter Joann Kennedy; his parents; brother Bobby Doyle Kennedy; son-in-law Pat Farris; and brother-in-law Owen Gordon.

Serving as pallbearers are Jonathan Ashmore, Dylan Castle, Michael Castle, Ricky Castle, Eugene Kennedy, and Ronnie Reid. Honorary pallbearers are Glenn Cagle, James Edward Gordon, Ralph Kennedy Gordon, Robert Gordon, and Steve Kilgore.

Memorial contributions in honor of Mr. Kennedy may be given to Masonic Lodge of Louisville, Louisville Lodge #75, P. O. Box 65, Louisville, MS 39339.
