Dan C. “Danny” Jordan, Jr.

Mr. Dan C. “Danny” Jordan, Jr., 72, passed away on Sunday, October 30, 2022, at his home in Louisville, MS. Visitation will be Tuesday, November 1st, from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. at Porter Funeral Home, with a graveside service and interment to follow at 11:30 A.M. at Memorial Park Cemetery, with Rev. Mike Childs officiating. Porter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Danny was born September 20, 1950, in Columbus, MS, to Clara Atkins and Dan C. Jordan, Sr. He was a graduate of Louisville High School, and went on to the University of Southern Mississippi to earn a degree in polymer chemistry. He was a faithful member of First Methodist Church of Louisville.

He is survived by his daughter, Christy Jordan Jacobson of Colorado; a son, Dan C. “Trey” Jordan, III (Andrea) of Fort Worth, TX; three sisters, Carol Patterson, J. J. Jordan, and Charlotte Files, all of Louisville; and two grandchildren, Owen Jordan and Ethan Jacobson.

Dessie Mae Jordan

Funeral service for Ms. Dessie Mae Jordan will be held 10 AM Monday, October 31, 2022, at John E. Stephens Chapel. Interment will be in Union Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery in Winston Co. Visitation will be 4-7 PM Sunday, October 30, 2022, at John E. Stephens Chapel. 

Ms. Jordan, 95, passed away Thursday, October 27, 2022, at her home. 

She lived most of her life in Noxapater, MS where she was a homemaker. She was a member of Union Ridge Baptist Church, and her hobbies were crocheting and needle work.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Dan Thomas Jordan; parents, John Pink Winters and Edder Alma Scallon Winters; son, Jerry Thomas Jordan; sister, Doris Melton; brothers, Jimmy, Billy, and John Winters; great-grandson, Colton Crawley.

Survivors include daughter, Betty Ann Phillips (Deane); son, Danny Jordan; sisters, Dorothy Swindle and Carolyn Kelly; brothers, William Winters; four grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers: Chase Jordan, Marcus Littrell, Hagon Feasel, Josh Baumunk, Barney Holiness, Kaden Holdiness.

Martha Karen Boydstun

Martha Karen Boydstun, 76, passed away on Tuesday October 25th, 2022, at her home in Louisville. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Thursday, October 27th, at Porter Funeral Home with Rev. Tommy Jones officiating. Visitation will be Thursday from 11:00 A.M. until service time at the funeral home. Interment will be in Harmony Baptist Church cemetery. Porter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Martha was born October 21st, 1946, in Louisville, MS to Rose and Bane Hudson. She graduated from Mississippi State University and worked for the MS. Dept. of Human Services. She loved her family, her cats, decorating her home and collecting Victorian figurines.

She is survived by two sons, Ronnie Boydstun and Rick Boydstun, both of Louisville; three sisters, Peggy (J.R.) Burroughs of Midlothian Texas, Shirley Vowell of Brandon, MS and Revia Perrigin of Columbus, MS; one brother Bob Hudson of Brandon, MS; her grandchildren , Robin Elaine Wood and Tamara Boydstun; three great grandchildren, Zachary Smith, Raven Boydstun, and Savannah Marie Wood.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Mary June Boydstun, and husband, Richard Henry Boydstun

The family would like to thank Martha’s special caregiver, Linda Mills, and
Quality Hospice for the excellent care given to Martha during her illness.

Deborah “Debbie” Barlow

Deborah Dee Doster Barlow, 65, is resting in the arms of Jesus as of Tuesday, October 25, 2022. Debbie was born June 20, 1957, in Athens, GA, to Layton Brown and Glennie Pittman Doster.

Debbie dedicated her entire adult life in service to French Camp Academy, a Christian boarding school. She first served as a houseparent for many years before transitioning to the role of Assistant to the Director of Student Life. She and her husband of 47 years, Glen Barlow, were active members in the community, and she worked tirelessly to support her husband in his role as Mayor of the town of French Camp. Debbie was an active member of the French Camp Presbyterian Church and Itta-Bena/Morgan City Presbyterian Church. Debbie's talents for preparing meals and serving others with blessings through food will be treasured by many. She was well-loved and loved well.

Visitation will be on Friday, October 28, 2022, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the French Camp Presbyterian Living Stones Building in French Camp, MS, and Saturday, October 29, 2022, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:15 p.m. at French Camp Presbyterian Church.

Celebration of Life services will be held on Saturday, October 29, 2022, at 2:30 p.m., at French Camp Presbyterian Church in French Camp, MS, with Rev. Alex Coblentz and Rev. Randy Bridges will officiate. The burial will follow at French Camp Cemetery in French Camp, MS. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Kade Barlow, Holt Barlow, Dakota Barlow, Knox Barlow, Grayson Geiser, and son, Jason Geiser.

Debbie is survived by her husband, Glen Barlow of French Camp, MS; her children, Glen Allen & Sarah Barlow of Olive Branch, MS, and Jeremy Scott & Tonya Barlow of French Camp, MS and Jason & Jennifer Lynn (Barlow) Geiser of French Camp, MS; her grandchildren, Kade, Hayley, Holt, Dakota, Macy, Knox, Elly, Grayson, and Livvy. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Pete Doster, her granddaughter, Gracey Lynn, and another mother, Big Mama Barlow. Debbie, also, leaves behind a host of honorary children and grandchildren from her years of service at French Camp Academy.

The family is asking, in lieu of flowers, for any donations to be sent to French Camp Presbyterian Church in memory of Debbie Barlow. All donations in her honor will be used to purchase new appliances for the kitchen at the Camp of the Rising Son, to continue her love of blessing others with food.

Glynda Victoria Triplett

Mrs. Glynda Victoria Triplett, 80, passed away on Saturday, October 23, 2022, at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland, MS. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Monday, October 31st, at Porter Funeral Home, with Rev. Mark Mayo and Mr. Giles Ward officiating.

Glynda was born February 4, 1941, in Louisville, MS. She was a graduate of Louisville High School, and attended East Central Community College, Mississippi College, and Mississippi State University. She was a secretary for the Winston County Forestry Service for many years, and was a member of First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Claude and Warrene Stokes Ming.

She is survived by her husband, Robert J. “Bobby” Triplett; her son, Jayson Ming Triplett of Jackson, MS; a sister, Janis Ming (Dr. Jerry) Clanton of Louisville, KY; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Jimmie Bernard Owens

Jimmie Bernard Owens, 65, of Starkville, MS., formerly of Louisville, passed on Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2022, at his residence. Charles "Gilbert" Eaves

Charles Gilbert Eaves, 80, passed away at his home in Macon, Mississippi, on Sunday, October 23, 2022, with his loving family by his side. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, October 26 in the Nowell-Massey Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. David Keen and Bro. Allen “Bubba” Eaves officiating. Visitation will be the day of the service from 11 a.m. until service time at Nowell-Massey Funeral Home in Louisville, Mississippi. Interment will immediately follow the service in Perkinsville Cemetery in Winston County.

Gilbert was born June 11, 1942, to Everett and Mary Kate Boone Eaves. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. Gilbert owned Eaves Grocery for 25 years. He was a “people person” and with his witty personality, he was always ready for a good laugh with friends. After he closed the store, he owned Mr. Fix-It Appliance Repair and he was “Mr. Fix-It!” Gilbert loved camping. After retirement, he enjoyed serving as the park host alongside his wife, Annette, at the Pickensville Campground in Pickensville, Alabama; while at the same time, they served as managers of three apartment complexes in Noxubee County. He was an avid college and professional football fan; he especially enjoyed Mississippi State University and the New Orleans Saints football games.

Gilbert is survived by his wife of 58 years, Annette Gentry Eaves of Macon; and their son, Charles “Bubba” Eaves of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. One of his greatest joys was being “Papaw” to his grandchildren: Brandy (Robby) Fuller and Megan Polatsidis (Joshua) Sakalaukus; as well as four great-grandchildren: Ethan James Thomas, Jacey Fuller, Gracyn Fuller, and Zoe Ainsworth. Gilbert was preceded in death by his daughter, Sherry Eaves Polatsidis; his granddaughter, Katie Thomas; his parents, two brothers, David Eaves and Glen Eaves; and his sister, Aurelia Eaves.

Serving as pallbearers are Robby Fuller, Donald Ray Clark, Kelly Clark, Larry Cockrell, Danny Parks, and Mitch Sanders. Honorary pallbearers are Cully Hudspeth, Henry “Bubba” Hudspeth, Gene Penic, Raymond Roland, and Arlin Yost. Betty Mills

Mrs. Betty Jeanne Snyder Mills, 87, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, October 22, 2022, at Beebe Retirement Center in Beebe, Arkansas. Visitation will be 10:00 A.M. Saturday October 29 followed by the memorial service at 12:00 P.M. at Porter Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Childs officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Betty was born December 13, 1934, in Towanda, Illinois where she grew up on a farm with 11 brothers and sisters. She attended Lincoln Bible College in Lincoln, IL for a short time until she married the love of her life on a cold December day in 1953. While living in Illinois Betty was a homemaker and spent many hours volunteering with church youth groups and the Boy Scouts of America until relocating to Mississippi in the early 1980s. She served tirelessly alongside her husband Rev. William (Bill) G. Mills in many Methodist churches over the years. She spent her final years living in Beebe, AR happily surrounded by family.

Betty loved the Lord and was a devoted Christian. Her Bible was worn, with notes in the margins and verses underlined. She always had a prayer list and would faithfully pray daily as she did her morning devotion; only after she finished would she fix herself a cup of coffee. Her final church home was First Methodist Church in Louisville, MS where she was an active member serving in multiple capacities including singing in the choir, treasurer of her Sunday School class, working in the church kitchen preparing meals, and baking bread for Communion. She supported missions both foreign and local, assisted in preparing relief buckets after Hurricane Katrina, and made many a caramel cake or Italian cream cake or her famous “Betty Bread” for bazaars and bake sales.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Rev. William G. (Bill) Mills; daughter, Lisa Mills; son, Scott Mills; parents, Charles Snyder and Kathryn Bale Snyder; siblings Stanley, Donald, Audrey, Charles, Patricia, John, and Larry and her puppy dog and faithful companion Murphy.

She is survived by daughter, Bonnie (Tim) Tippey of Stanford, IL; son, Dave (Laurel) Mills of Beebe, AR; five granddaughters, Heather (Mike) Shriver of Ft. Meyers, Florida; Fran Watts of Lonoke, AR; Amanda (David) Hines of Cabot, AR; Alexandria and Indya Mills, both of Booneville, MS; and 13 great-grandchildren; Evyn, Sylas, Beccan, Ayva, Ezra, Sadie, Oliver, Jovie, Noah, Stephy, Will, Ivy-Rose, and Taddy; siblings Robert, Dorma, Sharon, and Sterling.

Dr. Ava Pugh VanLandingham

Jillian Hankamer officiating. Graveside Services will be 11:30 a.m. Monday, October 24, 2022, at Louisville Memorial Cemetery in Louisville, MS.

Ava Pugh VanLandingham loved her friends, her university, and her community, and she impacted all who had the privilege to know and learn from her. She was passionate about teaching and dedicated her life to education, scholarship, and serving those who shared her thirst for knowledge.

A native of Louisville, Mississippi, Dr. Ava Pugh was a consummate educator who inspired hundreds of teachers and their students. In 1980, Ava received her Ed. D. in Curriculum and Instruction from Mississippi State University with cognates in science education and educational leadership. In 1984, she joined the education faculty of the University of Louisiana-Monroe (ULM) where she taught generations of undergraduate and graduate students for next four decades.

During her tenure, Dr. Pugh published over 130 research papers and articles and delivered over 300 scholarly presentations at the state, national and international levels. As a full professor, Dr. Pugh held the Endowed Professorship for Bell South Science Education and served as the Elementary Education Program Coordinator for over 30 years. She retired from the University of Louisiana-Monroe in 2020.

Dr. Pugh was an active officer of the Mid-South Educational Research Association (MSERA). She joined the organization as a student and continued to be a member throughout her career where she has served on the board since 1981. Additionally, she has served as President of the MSERA Foundation board since 2008.

Dr. Pugh supported several academic and community organizations including the National Science Teaching Association (NSTA), NCATE SPA Elementary Education Chair, Phi Delta Kappa, Kappa Delta Phi, Delta Kappa Gamma, the Junior League of Monroe, and the Monroe Garden Club. Her accolades include being acknowledged as the Mississippi Outstanding Science Teacher for 1979 and as the Outstanding Professor for Teaching at ULM in 2005. Her hobbies included cooking, entertaining, traveling, reading, and writing. Her sharp intelligence and wry sense of humor will be keenly missed by her friends and family.

Ava is survived by Ronnie Brent Taylor, John Taylor, David Lee Pugh, Jerry Pugh, Wayne Pugh, Joyce Anne Lewis, Catherine Stokes, Carolyn Johns, and Betty Crowson. Ava was preceded in death by her loving husband, Ted VanLandingham and by her parents, Fay and Rachel Pugh.

Mae Hemphill Phillips

Mrs. Mae Hemphill Phillips, 80, peacefully left this life and entered into her heavenly home on Friday, October 21, 2022, at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson, MS, after suffering recently with congestive heart failure. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 P.M. on Sunday, October 23rd, at Hight Assembly of God Church, with Rev. Tom Bentley officiating. Visitation will be Sunday from 1:00 to 2:00 P.M. at Porter Funeral Home. Interment will be in Hight Assembly of God Cemetery. Porter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Phillips was born March 1, 1942, in Attala County, MS, the daughter of Mamie Jane and Floyd Wesley Hunt. Mae and her husband, Billy, owned Hemphill Furniture in Louisville for 50 years, and seven years on her own after Billy passed away. After Billy’s death, Mae was fortunate to marry a second time to Monie Phillips. They moved to Lucedale, MS and made their home. Monie passed away in 2021 and Mae returned to her home in Louisville when she lived near her family.

Mae loved Jesus, her Lord and Savior, and served Him faithfully. She was a member of Hight Assembly of God in Noxapater, MS. Mae could always be found witnessing and praying for her family and friends to be saved.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Billy Hemphill and Monie Phillips, Jr.; a daughter, Sandra Rogers Foster; a grandson, Robert (Bob) Rogers; and a brother, Douglas Hunt.

She is survived by two daughters, Robin (Billy) Carter of Louisville, and Teressa (Michael) Huntley of Brandon, MS; a sister, Nell Shaw Cumberland of Philadelphia, MS; a sister-in-law, Jamie Redmond; grandchildren, Brian (Katherine) Rogers, Jonathan Rogers, Austin (Dakota) Foster, Michael (Claire) Carter, Sarah (Wesley) Donald; Jacob (Morgan) Carter, Rodney Lee Smith, Dillon (Samantha) Huntley, and Stephen Huntley; seventeen great grandchildren; and three step-sons who she loved, Monie Phillips, III, of Florida, Marty Aaron Phillips of Lena, MS, and Monie Jason Phillips of Texas.

Kathy Ann Smith Presley

Kathy Ann Smith Presley, 52, passed away in Newton, Mississippi, on Saturday, October 15, 2022. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday, October 21 in the Nowell-Massey Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Kathy was born July 7, 1970, to Larry and Catherine Swindle Smith. She enjoyed fishing, watching television, and roller skating, but most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and family.

Kathy is survived by her children: Olivia Presley (Richard Case) of the Nanih Waiya Community; Danny Presley (Olivia) of Preston, Mississippi; and Robert Presley (Amanda) also of the Nanih Waiya Community. One of her greatest joys was being “MawMaw” to her five grandchildren: Laklen Presley, Anaston Presley, Lucas Smith, Wyatt Presley, and Emery Case. She also leaves behind her father, Larry Smith of Sebastopol, Mississippi; her mother, Catherine Jay of Newton; two sisters, Elizabeth Smith Street also of Newton; and Lora Mae Smith Swindoll also of Sebastopol; and two brothers Larry Floyd of Drew, Mississippi; and Wesley David Vernon Smith (Tonya) of Booneville, Mississippi; in addition to a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews. Kathy was preceded in death by her grandparents: Floyd G. Swindle, Elizabeth Naomi Todd Swindle; Vernon Smith, and Christine Garrard.

Max D. Worrell

Husband, father, and grandfather Max D. Worrell entered fully into the presence of the Lord on Friday, October 14, 2022 in Memphis, TN. He was 76.

Born on February 6, 1946 in Ackerman, MS, he graduated as "Mr. AHS" from Ackerman High School in 1964. After graduating from Mississippi State University, he worked for many years in the car business before retiring from the US Postal Service. Wherever he worked he touched many lives and shared the love of Christ.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Kendall and Tilda B. Worrell. Those left to treasure his memory are his wife of 50 years, Karen Earhart Worrell, their daughters, Ashley Houpt (Dave) of Memphis, Brooke Ernst (Paul) of Shelbyville, KY, and Rachel Butler (Kiley) of Memphis, his son, Zohn Tennyson (Robyn) of Diamondhead, MS, grandchildren Zoe Kearfott, Cooper Houpt and Carson Houpt, brothers, Dixie Worrell (Doris) of Ackerman, MS, Doug Worrell of Pensacola, FL, sisters, Kathy Jenkins (Louis) of Starkville, MS and Jayne Gunter (Claude) of Oxford, MS, and many nieces and nephews.

Max's Christian faith was an essential part of his life. He previously taught Sunday School at Ridgeway Baptist Church and has been an active member of Bellevue Baptist Church for the past 25 years. But most importantly he taught his children to love and serve the Lord. His legacy of a Christ-centered life will be passed down for many generations.

Max was very artistic and loved thinking about and experiencing God's beautiful creation. His extensive reading made him very knowledgeable about many different subjects, especially our universe, space and physics.

The family will receive guests on Tuesday, October 18, 2022 beginning at 2:00 p.m. until the service at 3:00 p.m., both in the Pollard Chapel of Bellevue Baptist Church.

Joan Landrum Sullivan

Mrs. Joan Landrum Sullivan, 85, passed away on Tuesday, October 18, 2022, at the Oak Cottage at the Winston County Nursing Home in Louisville, MS. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, October 20th, at Porter Funeral Home, with Rev. Michael Wells and Rev. Wayne Hill officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday from 10:00 A.M. until the service time at the funeral home. Porter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Joan was born May 23, 1937, in Louisville, MS. She was a secretary for Crawley Law Offices and a member of Ellison Ridge Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Danny Marlon Sullivan; her parents, Merle Lashley Winstead and Freeman Winstead; one sister, Lois Rhodes; and one brother, James Winstead.

She is survived by her two daughters, Lesli Landrum and Jeana Neely, and one grandson, Josh Neely, all of Louisville; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Kenny Sullivan, Johnny Sullivan, Joshua Neely, Kevin Hindman, Thomas Peterson, and Tommy Clark. Serving as honorary pallbearers are Ricky Richardson, Clint Eubank, Caleb Metts, David Clark, Craig Clark, and Jimbo Clark.

Ernie McGee

Mr. Ernie R. McGee, 60, passed away on October 17, 2022, at Winston Medical Center.

Ernie was born July 3, 1962, in Winston County, MS. He was a truck driver. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jean and Rayford McGee.

He is survived by his wife, Diane Nowell McGee of Louisville; a sister, Virgie Lane of Tupelo; and a brother, Arlie McGee of Edinburg, MS.

Funeral arrangements have not been finalized at this time.

Mildred McKinley Miller

Mildred McKinley Miller, 86, of Illinois, formerly of McCool, MS., passed on Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2022, at her daughter's home. Carrie B. Grammer

Carrie B. Grammer, 83, passed away on Saturday, October 15, 2022, at the Choctaw County Nursing Center in Ackerman, MS. She was born March 4, 1939, in Mississippi, to Edgar and Velma(Counts) Beach. Mrs. Grammer was a retired nursing assistant. She was a member of the Ackerman Church of God in Ackerman, MS.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 17, 2022, 2:00 p.m., at Ackerman Church of God in Ackerman, MS, with Rev. Kelvin Copeland officiating. Mrs. Grammer is survived by 1 daughter, Marie(Gary) Avent of Eupora, MS; 3 sons, Gerry(Nancy) Grammer of Ackerman, MS. Ricky Grammer of Ackerman, MS, Jason(Randi) Grammer of McDonough, GA; 6 grandchildren, Brandi(Josh) Threet, Keri(Ryan) Maxwell, Eric Avent, Mason(Jessica) Grammer, Nicholas Grammer, Carson Grammer; and 4 great-grandchildren, Chris Grammer, Colby Threet, Gentry Threet, and Kalem Grammer.

Mrs. Grammer was preceded in death by her husband, Leland Grammer, her parents, 2 brothers, and 3 sisters.

Wayren Glenn Dickerson

Wayren Glenn Dickerson, 70, passed away peacefully at his home in Louisville, Mississippi, on Saturday, October 15, 2022, surrounded by his loving family. Visitation will be Monday, October 17 from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Nowell-Massey Funeral Home in Louisville. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 18 in the Nowell-Massey Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will immediately follow the service in Evergreen Cemetery in Louisville with Bro. Robin Risher officiating.

Wayren was born August 24, 1952, to John Marshall and Lillie Mae Jackson Dickerson in Louisville. He was a devoted husband, Daddy, and Papaw. Wayren was a 1970 graduate of Louisville High School. He started as a teenager working at Gentry’s Big Star and worked in the grocery business including owning Dickerson’s Jr. Food Mart for 28 years. Wayren was an active member of Evergreen Baptist Church and he was an avid Mississippi State fan.

Wayren is survived by his wife of 50 years, Wanda Crowson Dickerson of Louisville; and two children: Kristy Peavy and husband, Anthony, of Huntsville, Alabama; and Michael Dickerson and wife, Heather, of Hattiesburg, Mississippi. One of his greatest joys was being “Papaw” to his four grandchildren: Chelsea Peavy (Nathaniel) Johnson of Sylvania, Alabama; Dylan (Merissa) Peavy of Huntsville, Alabama; and Emery Dickerson and Nate Dickerson both of Hattiesburg, Mississippi; as well as his three great-grandchildren: Cheyanne James, Willow Johnson, and Graycie Mae Johnson. He also leaves behind four sisters-in-law: Dottie Dickerson, Dona (Jerry) Smith, Cindy (Aubrey) Holder, and Harriet (David) Stewart, in addition to numerous loving nieces, nephews, other family members and many friends. Wayren was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Maxine Mills and Velma Mayo, two brothers, Harvey Dickerson and Johnny Dickerson; and his great-granddaughter, Reagan Ruth Peavy.

Tonya White

Mrs. Tonya White, 63, passed away on Sunday, September 11, 2022, at her home in Louisville, MS. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, October 22nd, at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 11:00 A.M. the day of the service at the cemetery. Porter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Tonya was born November 29, 1958, in Georgia. She was a graduate of Louisville High School. Tonya loved to stay busy and worked in healthcare, sitting with the elderly, and worked cleaning homes too. She was a member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Elizabeth Nichols; and a son, Preston Peters.

She is survived by her husband, Keith White of Louisville; two daughters, Leslie Peters (Daniel) Trainor and Abby Lynne (Mark) Clemons, both of Grand Bay, AL; a son, Steven Blaine Peters of Semmes, Al; a sister, Linda (Steve) White of Louisville; a brother, Eddie (Alicison) Nichols of Louisville; and twelve grandchildren.

Flowers delivered to the funeral home will be taken to the graveside.

 

Dr. Robert T. "Bobby" Land

Dr. Robert T Land Sr., 83, passed peacefully on October 12, 2022, at home in Louisville, Mississippi with his family by his side. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, October 14th, at Memorial Park Cemetery, with Rev. Mike Childs officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 1:00 to 2:00 P.M. at Porter Funeral Home.

Robert “Bobby” Land was born October 22, 1938, in Louisville, MS. to Edwin and Bessie Land. In 1956, he graduated from Louisville High School. He went to Mississippi State University and graduated with his bachelor’s degree in pre-dentistry. Following graduation, he married Mary Elisabeth Carothers in December 1961. They moved to Memphis, TN where he enrolled in the University of Tennessee. During his time at the University of Tennessee, Bobby was as member of the Psi Gamma Chapter of the Psi Omega Fraternity. After getting his dental degree in 1964, Bobby worked at a penal institution in Georgia as a prison dentist. Shortly after, the Lands moved back home to Louisville where he started his own dental practice. Bobby practiced dentistry for forty-two years enjoying general and orthodontic dentistry. Bobby, along with his staff saved thousands of smiles. The Mississippi Dental Association recognized Bobby as a life member in 2004. Throughout the years, Bobby was active in the community, obtaining many accomplishments, including President of the Mississippi State Bulldog Alumni Association of the Louisville Chapter, President of the Winston Academy Board, and host to a foreign exchange student Achill Schurmann. Though Bobby loved being a dentist, he also loved travelling. Bobby was well travelled and loved traveling in the US. He was a beloved father, brother, uncle, friend, and “Pop.”

Bobby is leaving behind many fond memories to his family and friends. To know him was to cherish him. Bobby was able to share his passions with his family and his love of dentistry with his granddaughter, Ramsey. Bobby was a proud supporter of the Mississippi State Bulldogs. His family will miss his wisdom and wit immensely.

Bobby is survived by his three sons, Robert Taylor Land Jr. and wife, Erin of Louisville, MS, William Carothers Land of Biloxi, MS., David Christopher Land Sr., and wife Tracy of Jackson, MS.; four grandchildren, Ramsey Taylor Land, Bailey Carothers Land, David Christopher Land Jr. and his wife Jena, Zachary Boyd Land.; Sister Dorothy Wiggs and husband, Steve Wiggs of Houston, TX., Sisters-in-law Harriet Land and Amy Land, and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family wants to thank Dr. Steven Brandon, Katherine Miller, and Quality Care Hospice.

He is preceded in death by his wife of forty-six years, Mary Elisabeth “Betty” Land, and by parents Edwin and Bessie Land; Brother Edwin Land Jr., James Land, and Harold Land.

Diane Crow Winans

Diane Crow Winans, 75, passed away peacefully at the Oak Cottage of the Winston Medical Center Nursing Home in Louisville, Mississippi, on Tuesday, October 11, 2022. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, October 13 at Noxapater Baptist Church in Noxapater, Mississippi, with Bro. Mike Fondren and Dr. Bob Massey officiating. Interment will immediately follow the service in Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Noxapater.

Diane was born April 21, 1947, to her mother, Lucille Reagan Crow and her father, Harold Crow of Noxapater. She graduated from Noxapater High School in 1965. After graduation, she attended Mississippi State College for Women, where she met the love of her life, John Winans, who was stationed at Columbus Air Force Base at the time. She earned a Master’s Degree in Education and taught high school English and history in Natchez, Mississippi, Noxapater, Mississippi, Bruce, Mississippi, Hazelwood High School and East Lawrence High School in Caddo, Alabama, where she retired. She also earned a degree in Accounting from the University of North Alabama and worked in the accounting field, briefly. On December 27, 2021, Diane and John celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary. They raised their children in Moulton, Alabama, and upon retirement, they moved back to Noxapater, in her childhood home. They enjoyed traveling together, especially out West in Montana, Wyoming, Utah, Idaho, and Colorado. She enjoyed planting flowers and creating beautiful landscaping, that her loving husband, John, would help her create. She was a talented decorator and a good cook. She loved to entertain her friends and family. She and John were active members of Noxapater Baptist Church, where she taught an adult Sunday school class, the Willing Workers.

Diane is survived by her son, Patrick Winans and wife, Monica, of Hernando, Mississippi, and her daughter, Allison Catchot and husband, James, of Ackerman, Mississippi. One of her greatest joys was being “Momer” or “Grandmother” to her grandsons Allen Landrum and Noah Catchot; and her granddaughters Olivia Winans and Claire Winans. She also leaves behind her brother, Paul Crow and sister-in-law Lynn Crow, in addition to her nieces Penny Crow Stalcup and Paige Crow McKinney, her nephew Jeff Crow, and countless friends. Diane was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John, and her parents.

Fred White

Fred White, 85, of Shuqualak, MS passed away on Friday, October 7,2022 at Anderson Regional Hospital in Meridian, MS. His funeral service will be held on Monday, October 10, at 3:00 P.M. from Macedonia Methodist Church near Shuqualak with Bro. Sean Greer officiating. Visitation will be from 1:00 P.M. until service time at the church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Fred White was born in Winston County, MS to the late Walter Lee and Ida Lee Flake White on April 9, 1937. He grew up in the Ellison Ridge community and attended the Ellison Ridge school. He began farming in Winston County and later moved to the Shuqualak, MS area where he began working for Delta Shuqualak Brick (later called Boral Brick) until the plant closed. After a brief recuperation period for back problems, he began working at Barge Lumber Company in Macon until his retirement. After he retired, Fred farmed near his home in the Macedonia Community outside of Shuqualak. Of all of the jobs that he had, his favorite jobs were rocking his grandchildren and pushing them in the swing. Fred loved to spend time with his family. He also enjoyed gardening and just working and staying busy. He enjoyed hunting, especially rabbit and deer hunting. He loved to hear the dogs running the deer and rabbits.

He is survived by his seven children: Darlene (Johnny) Black; Beverly Rigdon; Linda (James) Higginbotham; Lisa (Terry) Rigdon; Richie (Brenda) White; Christi (Tim) Higginbotham and Michael (Sarah) White. He is also survived 27 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind four sisters: Glenda Thomas, Janie Reynolds, Janelle Bracken, and Carol Bullard.

Fred White is preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, two brothers, his wife, and one son-in-law.

Qifen Xie

Mr. QiFen Xie, 103, passed away natural and peacefully at 10:30 a.m., October 8, 2022, at Winston Medical Center Nursing Home in Louisville, Mississippi.

Mr. QiFen Xie was born on September 6, 1919 in Kaiping City of Guang Dong Province in China. His wife YanYing Wu passed away in 2006. He was a hardworking business man in China before moving to the United States with family where he lived in Louisville, MS since 1997 with his son, daughter, and their family. He had an immense love for poetry, singing, and writing beautiful traditional Chinese calligraphic works. He is a very talented, loving, caring, honest, adamant, fearless, selfless, unity, diligent, thrifty, hard-working person. He emphasizes good school education to his children. He loves watching volleyball game. He is very knowledgeable in Chinese herbs. He loves the Chinese herbal tea and he passed his long life secret herbal tea recipe to his offspring to keeping them healthy and long life.

Mr. QiFen Xie is survived by six children: 1. TongHuo Xie (Wife: XiuLi Hu); 2. TongJian Xie (Wife: Yanfang Zhang); 3. TongRi Xie (Wife: Wangqing Tao); 4. Qiongzhen Xie (Husband: YingRui Yu); 5. Daisy Xie (Husband: Simon Chen); 6. Julia Ripplinger (Husband: Melvin Ripplinger). He also survived by Seven grandchildren: 1. Tracy Jue (husband: Jeffrey Jue); 2. QingFeng Xie; 3. (Justin) HaiYe Xie (Wife: Qing Liu); 4. WeiBin Yu (wife: YanNa Huang); 5. (Jess) Juncong Xie; 6. Devin Chen; 7. Katy Chen. Four Great-grandchildren: 1. Dillon Jue; 2. Ella Jane Jue; 3. ZiHong Yu; 4. Mr. Reed, 35, of Philadelphia, died Tuesday, October 4, 2022.

Jason was a native and resident of Philadelphia and former resident of Vail, CO., Starkville, MS and West Palm Beach, FL. He was the manager of Woody’s of Noxapater and was a graduate of Philadelphia High School and attended Mississippi State University.
Survivors include his daughter, Aspen Reed of Columbus, MS; parents Woody and Elisa Reed of

Mr. Vincent, 75 of Collinsville, Ms died Tuesday, October 4, 2022

Mr. Ben was born and raised in Collinsville and Lauderdale County, Ms and a 1964 graduate of West Lauderdale High School. He entered the U.S. Navy in 1965 and served on the USS Independence during the Vietnam Era, and when he returned home he joined the Air National Guard and retired after 27 years of military service. He loved to travel, car shows, his Corvette and antique cars. His favorite hobby was cowboy shooting and was a member of SASS. Mr. Vincent was of Christian Faith

Vicki Baskin Hendrix

Vicki Baskin Hendrix passed away on Wednesday, October 5, 2022, at her home in Brandon, MS. She was born in Winona, Mississippi on May 12,1954 to Sara Allen and Robert W. Baskin. She was predeceased by her parents, as well as her brother Kurt Baskin.

She graduated from Mississippi State University and was part of the Famous Maroon Band as a member of the color guard, and a member of The Delta Gamma Sorority.

After serving as an Officer’s wife, she and her husband Bubba settled in Louisville, Mississippi. She taught elementary school in several states including Illinois, North Carolina, Virginia, and Arkansas, for a total of 38 years. During her tenure, she was recognized as “Teacher of the Year” twice in Virginia and North Carolina.

Vicki was constantly teaching. With her artistic abilities, she taught art classes during summer vacation to children of all ages.

She leaves behind her husband of 46 years, Sidney S. “Bubba” Hendrix, her son Brian and wife (Sara) and son Todd and wife (Amber). She was blessed with 5 grandchildren, Kurt, Tyler, Skyler, Savannah, and Aubree.

Services for Vicki will be held in Louisville, Mississippi at Porter Funeral Home on Saturday, October 8th at 11:00 a.m., with Rev. Junior Davis officiating. Visitation will be one hour before service time at the funeral home.

Larry "Bubba" McAdory

 Larry “Bubba” McAdory, age 68, passed away on Wednesday, October 5, 2022, at his home in Louisville, Mississippi. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, October 8, 2022, at Harmony Baptist Church in Louisville, with Bro. Jerry Lundy and Bro. Tommy Jones officiating. Visitation will be the day of service from 1:00 p.m. until service time. Interment will immediately follow in Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery.

Larry was born in Louisville on April 14, 1954, to Leo McAdory and Johnnie Ruth Hatcher McAdory. He was a graduate of Noxapater High School and a member of Harmony Baptist Church. He enjoyed the outdoors: especially hunting, fishing, and gardening. Larry also enjoyed watching sports and westerns. His greatest enjoyment was spending time with his loving family.

Larry is survived by his two daughters Kimberly (Joey) Burdine and Dana (Danny) Sullivan of Louisville; and his two sons, Adam (Jennifer) McAdory of Hattiesburg, Mississippi; and Thruett Kirk also of Louisville. One of his greatest joys was being “Paw Paw” to his 14 grandchildren: Joshua Kemp, Hailey Kemp, Breland Burdine, Isaac Burdine, Tyson Burdine, Kinzi Burdine, John Patrick McAdory, Nick Sullivan, Wade Sullivan, Karlee Sullivan, Hinsleigh Sullivan, Jazlynn Kirk, Harley Kirk, and Layla Kirk. He also leaves behind two sisters: Lynn McAdory Smith (Jeff) Seward of Philadelphia, Mississippi; and Janet McAdory (John) Bradeen of Louisville; his brother-in-law, Steve Simpson also of Louisville; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends. Larry is preceded in death by his parents, and his sister, Debbie Simpson.

Interment in North Bend Methodist Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 1:00 PM till time for service Saturday, October 8th at John E. Stephens Chapel Funeral Services.

Ms. Spears, 83, passed away Monday, October 3, 2022 at Neshoba General Hospital. She lived in Neshoba County all of her life. She was a Certified Nursing Assistant and enjoyed quilting, yard work and cooking. She was a member of Burnside Baptist Church.

Ms. Spears was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Warren and Carrie Fortenberry Warren; Husband, Johnnie Spears; Sisters, Dorothy Kirkland, Louise Adams and Eva Jewel Warren; Brothers, Leonard, Clayton, Bill, Charles and Lamar Warren.

Survivors: Son, Bobby Spears (Linda) of Philadelphia; Sisters, Betty Kelly of Noxapater and Diane Scarbrough of Laurel; Brothers, Robert Warren and Ray Warren both of Philadelphia; (4) Grandchildren; (10) Great-Grandchildren; (1) Great-Great-Grandchild; Host of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers: Junior Spears, Matt Spears, Dwight Germany, Jamie Warren, Miller Dunn and Devon Dunn.
Honorary pallbearer is Steven Germany.

Mary Louise Thornton, 68, of Louisville, MS., passed on Saturday, Oct. 1, 2022, at her home. A memorial will be conducted at a later date by the family. Beck Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Sherron Roberson, 82, of Louisville, MS., passed on Saturday, Oct. 1, 2022, at his home. Funeral Service will be Thursday, Oct. 6, 2022, at 2 p.m., from Antioch M. B. Church, with burial in the Antioch Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, one hour prior to service at the Church. Beck Funeral Home of Louisville in charge of arrangements.
