Mr. Victor R. Hunt, 84, passed away on Friday, August 27, 2010 at Winston Medical Center Nursing Home in Louisville, Mississippi. Visitation will be at Nowell-Massey Funeral Home in Louisville, Mississippi, on Saturday, August 28, 2010 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and at Hopewell Baptist Church on Sunday from 2:30 p.m. until service time. Funeral services will be at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 29, 2010 at Hopewell Baptist Church in McCool, Mississippi, with burial following in Hopewell Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Paul Blanchard, Rev. Roger Griffith and Rev. Tim Black officiating. Mr. Hunt was a retired logger and a member of Hopewell Baptist Church of McCool.
He is survived by his wife, Doris Burton Hunt of McCool, Mississippi; three sons, Jackie Ray (Judy Rene) Hunt of Brandon, Mississippi, Roger Dale (Patricia) Hunt of Crystal Springs, Mississippi, and David Lynn (Angelia) Hunt of Ackerman, Mississippi; one sister, Burl Lampley of Richland, Mississippi; one brother, Leonard Van Hunt of Louisville, Mississippi; 14 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death were two sons, Kenneth Wayne Hunt and Victor Donald Hunt and his parents, Thomas Clay and Exie Erma Ray Hunt.

Agnes I Patterson
Agnes Inez Patterson,age 96, died August 25, 2010, in Jacksonville, Florida. The youngest of seven children, she was born January 28, 1914, in Neshoba County, Ms., to the late John J. Ferguson and Mary E. Warren Ferguson. Growing up on a farm, she learned to cook and sew at an early age and became an accomplished seamstress, teaching sewing classes for Singer Sewing Machine Company in Memphis,Tn. for several years. She also crocheted beautiful afghans and gave them away. She was a good cook and enjoyed baking cakes for family and friends, especially her grandchildren. Her love of gardening was evident by the many jars of home grown, hand picked and lovingly prepared fruits and vegetables. She loved flowers, humming birds and petting Mayday, the family Basenji.
She was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Jimmie T. Patterson, her siblings and her son-in-law, Ray Collins.
Survivors are her daughter, Shirley Patterson Collins, 5 grandchildren: Jim Collins, Jan Sexton (Carl), Kim Alexander, all of Jacksonville, Ann Collins (John) of Hoffman Estates, Il. and Jil Gartner (Rick) of Plano, Tx., 5 great grandchildren: Kyle and Kailyn Sexton (Jacksonville) and Christopher, Joshua and Jil Collins (Hoffman Estates,IL). Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
Town & Country Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements with services and burial in Louisville, Ms., under direction of Nowell-Massey Funeral Home on Sunday, August 29.2010 at 2pm. Visitation will be at 1pm until time of service. Burial in Memorial Park Cemetary.

Mr. Silas Willard Lowery, 89, passed away on Tuesday, August 24, 2010 at Louisville Health Care in Louisville, Mississippi. Visitation will be at Nowell-Massey Funeral Home in Louisville, Mississippi, on Wednesday, August 25, 2010 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 26, 2010 at the Nowell-Massey Funeral Home Chapel with burial following in Sunrise Memorial Cemetery in Noxapater, Mississippi, with Rev. Fred Frazier, Jr. and Rev. Bobby Lowery officiating. Mr. Lowery was a retired Fire Tower Watchman for the Forestry Commission and a member of the First Pentecostal Church of Noxapater. He was born July 31, 1921, to Howard and Mary Elizabeth Permenter Lowery.

She was a native of the Boon Hill Community of Winston County and had been a resident of Neshoba County for the past 45 years. She formerly worked as a sewing machine operator at Nemanco. Mrs. Crossland was Baptist by faith.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Felix Crossland and Billy Gordon; son, Danny Crossland; and brother, Jack Dempsey.

Louise Cockrell Metts
On August 4, 2010, at age 87, Mrs. Louise Metts passed away at St. Dominic’s Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. Mrs. Metts was a resident of Louisville, MS, where she had lived her entire life. On December 15th, 1923 Mrs. Louise Metts was born to Edgar and Lucille Cockrell. In 1943 she was wed to Mr. John Phillip Metts whom she was married to for 43 wonderful years until his passing in 1986. Mrs. Metts was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church where she served as secretary for 50 years. As a hobby Mrs. Metts was an avid quilter, spending much of her spare time as a member of the Louisville Quilting Guild. Mrs. Metts was an enthusiastic thimble collector who could also be found rooting on her favorite teams, the Duke Blue Devils and the Atlanta Braves. Mrs. Metts is survived by daughters; Ruby Louise Metts of Louisville, MS, Ida Lucille Baldwin and husband , Joseph Douglas Baldwin of Brandon, MS, Jackie Carolyn Metts and husband, Jack Oliver White of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, brother, Jack Cockrell of Louisville, MS, daughter-n-law, Eva Faye Metts of Decatur, AL. Mrs. Metts is preceded in death by her husband, John Phillip Metts, son John Phillip Metts Jr., brothers Davis Cockrell, Billy Cockrell, Joe Cockrell and sister Margret Ming. Mrs. Metts was better known as “Grandmaw” by eight grandchildren; Melinda, John, Nicole, Doug, Brian, Josh, Andy and Jeff…and by eleven great grandchildren; Megan, Mark, Macey, Matthew, Maggie, Kirsten, John Garrett, Nicholas, Harrison, Abby and Easton. Visitation for Mrs. Metts will be held from 5pm to 8pm on August 6th, 2010 at Porter Funeral Home in Louisville, MS. Harold Curtis Gordon, Sr.
Harold Curtis Gordon, Sr., 79, died July 25, 2010, at the Golden Living Nursing Home after an extended illness.
He was born on March 10, 1931 in Louisville to the late Estel and Virginia Ruth Golden Gordon. He served in the United States Air Force, the United States Army, and the National Guard as a mechanic. He was a 100 percent Disabled American Veteran.
A private family graveside service is scheduled for 1p.m.Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2010 at the Corinth National Cemetery in Corinth with full military honors. The Rev. Dr. Prentiss Gordon Sr. and Rev. Dr. Prentiss Gordon, Jr. are officiating.
Mr. Gordon is survived by his wife, Jean, of Tupelo; four sons, Harold C. Gordon Jr. of Ackerman, William E. Gordon of Columbus, Leon E. Gordon of Tupelo and John C. Gordon of Ripley; two daughters, Debra I. Oakes of South Charleston, Ohio, and Annie R. James (Gordon) of Scobey; 15 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; one brother Rev. Dr. Prentiss M. Gordon of Starkville; and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his first wife, Irene M. Gordon of Columbus; a son, Jonathan R. Gordon of Wynne, Ark.; a daughter. Laurel J. Gordon of Columbus; and three sisters and two brothers.
