Wayne Gordon

Coyt Wayne Gordon, age 70, passed away surrounded by his loving family and friends Wednesday, January 29, 2020, at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi. Visitation will be Friday, January 31, from 5:00 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Nowell Massey Funeral Home in Louisville; and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, February 1, at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Scott Phillips and Rev. T. J. Jennings officiating. Graveside services and interment will be in Melrose Baptist Church Cemetery in Yazoo County, Mississippi.

Wayne was born May 30, 1949, to Coyt and Geneva Smith Gordon in Winston County. He is a graduate of Weir High School after which he earned an associate’s degree from Holmes Junior College. Wayne began his career by serving as a police officer for the City of Louisville. He served as the manager of the Louisville Country Club Golf Course and Ponta Creek Golf Course at the Naval Base in Meridian, Mississippi. Wayne was an avid outdoorsman so his next career move was Wildlife Management through the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks. Most recently, he was involved in managing properties for The Hughes Group. He enjoyed playing golf and was also a golf fan. Being an outdoorsman, he loved to hunt and fish. Wayne was a fan of any sports activity at Mississippi State University.

Wayne is survived by his loving wife of 49 years Susan P. Gordon of Louisville; and his daughter Holly Triplett and husband John of Meridian. One of his greatest joys was being “Pappy” to his two granddaughters Maggie Grace and Elanor Triplett. He is also survived by his siblings: Christine (Smith) Raybun of French Camp, Mississippi; Allen Gordon of Birmingham, Alabama; and Bonita (Joe) Martin of Eupora, Mississippi; in addition to his nieces, nephews, and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents.

Jack Norman Stewart

Mr. Jack Norman Stewart, age 80, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 28, 2020, at the Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi from a short battle with cancer. Funeral services will be at 1:00 P.M. on Friday, January 31st, at Murphy Creek Baptist Church, with Rev. Mark Mayo officiating. Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. at Porter Funeral Home, and on Friday at Murphy Creek Baptist Church one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Murphy Creek Cemetery. Porter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Jack was born March 14, 1939 in Winston County to Winford Wade and Carrie Izora Stewart. Jack was from a family of well-known historical local potters, the Stewart’s. He was one of fourteen children. He was a member of Murphy Creek Baptist Church. He answered the call of his country by serving in the United States Navy on the USS Ranger: CVA-61 May 7, 1958 to May 4, 1962. He followed his military career by active participation in the National Guard Armory in Louisville, MS August 9, 1976 to June 16, 1992, in which he served during Desert Storm December 7, 1990 to June 16, 1992.

During his lifetime, he was employed by Georgia Pacific Corporation for many years, from which he retired. He loved working in his yard, keeping an immaculate garden with the finest vegetables, woodworking, painting, working at his job, attending church, serving in the military, and spending time with his grandchildren of which he was known as “Daddy Jack”. He always kept a positive attitude, even when his health declined. For the past several years, Jack has been at the State Veterans Home in Kosciusko, MS, where he was given excellent care.

He is survived by his son Paul Stewart of Petal, MS, and his three daughters: Susan (Jakie) Sullivan of Louisville, MS, Sonya (Keith) Goodin of Madison, MS, and Misty Stewart of Louisville, MS; his grandchildren Mandy (Brandon) Howell, Jon Kerry King, Joshua Jones, Kristian Clark, Hunter (Jessie) Goodin, Jarrett King, Lexi Sullivan, and Caleb Hood; his great-grandchildren Ashlea Howell, Anna Howell, Madyson Chamblee, and Embry Grace Williamson. He is survived by his siblings: Sammie Alumbro, Frank Stewart, Frances Ball, Brenda (Wayne) Castleberry, Dixie (Marlon) Williamson, Zelda (J. W.) Gully, Pat Goodin, Junior (Louise) Stewart, Bobby Stewart, Bill (Charlene), and Delaine (Donnie) Woodruff, as well as a host of nephews and nieces.

He is preceded in death by his parents Winford Wade and Carrie Stewart; his grandparents Homer and Leona Stewart and Tom and Bonnie White; his brother Charles Stewart; his sister Janet Gentry; and his nephews, Wade Stewart and Stephen Goodin.

Serving as pallbearers are Stan Goodin, BoBo Ming, Marion “Rooster” Ball, Derrick Stewart, Boo Reed, Malcolm Williamson, and Brian Williamson.

Sherry Ingold, 58, passed away Friday, January 24, 2020 at UMC in Jackson, Mississippi.

Funeral services are 11:00 am Thursday, January 30, 2020 at Culpepper Funeral Home in Kosciusko, MS.
Burial will follow at the North Union Cemetery in Hesterville, MS.

Sherry is survived by her husband Danny Ingold; son Kasey Ingold; daughters Daphne Ingram (Bubba), Kristy Ingold; eight grandchildren Lane, Kaddie Lynn, Lexie, McKenzie, Aubree, Easton, Preston, Klausen; brothers Kenny Clausen, Toby Clausen, Steve Clausen; and sisters Patty Howell and Brenda Newman.

James Lamar Hailey

James Lamar Hailey, age 71, passed away surrounded by his loving family Sunday, January 26, 2020, at his residence in Louisville, Mississippi. Lamar was born December 13, 1948, to J. T. and Alice Scarbrough Hailey. He was a member of Vernon Methodist Church. Lamar loved anything to do with being outdoors—hunting, fishing, farming, and taking care of his cows. All who knew Lamar know that he loved to make people laugh and was quite a prankster. He answered the call of his country by serving in the Army National Guard for six years.

Lamar is survived by his loving wife of 37 years Kaye Sloan Hailey; his daughter Apryl Bane and husband David; and grandson Braxton Bane all of Louisville. He is also survived by his brother Robert Hailey and wife Peggy; his niece Belynda (Chip) Luke; and two nephews Allen H. (Ann) Hailey; and Malcolm H. (Mandy) Hailey; great-nephews Tanner and Tatum Luke; and four great-nieces: Laura Beth, Kady Rose, Mallory, and Harley. He also leaves behind two brothers-in law: Ernie (Lorie) Sloan and their children Jonathan and JayCee; and Bruce (Teri) Sloan and their son Adam (Nicole) Sloan; and great-great-nephew Gabrielle Sloan. He is preceded in death by his parents.

Debra "Debbie" Simpson

Debbie McAdory Simpson, age 61, passed away surrounded by her loving family Wednesday, January 22, 2020, at her residence in Louisville, Mississippi. Visitation will be Friday, January 24, from 5:00 p.m. until 7 p.m. and Saturday, January 25 from 12 p.m. until 2 p.m. at Nowell Massey Funeral Home in Louisville. Debbie was a wonderful wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt and grandmother (aka DeeDee). She loved the Lord. She enjoyed all outdoors; camping, fishing, mountain trips, and she always had a green thumb for her flowers. She was a gourmet cook to her family of wonderful southern recipes that have been passed down the family for years. She loved to cook and have family and friends in her home. She made delicious desserts which she enjoyed sharing with friends. In fact, when going to chemo, she would ask her doctors, nurses and staff what their favorite desserts were. The next time she’d come with a favorite dessert for a random doctor or nurse. Many times, she would bake cookies and brownies, individually packed (2 per bag) to share with the entire staff at the cancer institute. Debbie loved and gave with all of her heart.

Debbie was a genuine person, and always a loyal friend. She never met a stranger. She was loved by all who knew her. Her sweet voice and smile were contagious. As a matter of fact that is what stole Steve’s heart. Mrs. Simpson has been a member of Harmony Baptist Church since 1970's. She enjoyed being a member of two bunco clubs, and preparing for that special day with her friends.

Debbie is survived by her loving husband Steve Simpson of Louisville; and her three children: Jason Palmer of Morrison, Colorado; Ashley Simpson Pruett and husband Thomas of Eatonton, Georgia; and Laura Simpson Lee and husband Paul of Clarksville, Georgia. One of her greatest joys was being “DeeDee” to her grandchildren: Bryce Bragg, Katelyn Palmer Anslee Hicks, Braxton Bragg,Ty Hicks, Wesley Hicks, Ayden Pruett, Leslie Pruett Marlee-Kate Lee, Jacey Lee, Bailey Lee, Logan Lee, and Alyssa Lee. She is also survived by her mother Johnnie Ruth McAdory; two sisters Lynn McAdory Smith (Jeff) Seward and Janet McAdory (John) Bradeen; and her brother Larry McAdory; in addition to her nieces, nephews, and friends. She is preceded in death by her father Leo McAdory.

Paul D. Miller

Paul D. Miller, age 81, passed away surrounded by his loving family Tuesday, January 21, 2020, at Baptist Memorial Hospital—Golden Triangle in Columbus, Mississippi. Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Friday, January 24, in the Nowell-Massey Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Johnny Collins officiating. Paul was born September 21, 1938, to Richard and Gladys King Miller in Weir, Mississippi. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church where he was actively involved until his health prevented his participation. He exhibited his strong work ethic by devoting 42 years to Taylor Machine Works in the Quality Control Department. Paul enjoyed hunting, fishing, and just “piddling” in his shop and around the house. It was said that “he lived his life in such a way that he made sure he had no enemies. We could all learn a lot from this man’s life. He was honest to a fault and strong until the end.”

Paul is survived by his loving wife of 35 years Glenda “Bunton” Miller of Louisville; and his children: Paul E. Miller and wife Joyce of Atlanta, Georgia; Tina Miller of Tampa, Florida; Richard S. Miller also of Tampa, Florida; Daryl Edmonds and wife Beth of Louisville; and Becky Brown and husband Gary of Caledonia, Mississippi. One of his greatest joys was being “PaPaw” to his nine grandchildren: George Miller, Charles Miller, Bennet Womble, Jacob Freedman, David Miller, Rachel Womack, Cole Harrison, Carley Meisenholder, and Caleb Brown; and his seven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Sarah (Johnny) Trussell in addition to his nieces, nephews, and friends. Paul is preceded in death by his grandson Justin Dickerson; his parents; and his brother Freeman Miller.

Johnny E. Haimes

Johnny E. Haimes, age 79, passed away surrounded by his loving family Saturday, January 18, 2020, at his residence in Louisville, Mississippi. Johnny was born May 27, 1940, to William Walker and Beatrice Powell Haimes in Winston County, Mississippi. He was a member of Gum Branch Baptist Church. For 34.5 years, he devoted himself to roadwork in District 1 of Winston County. He loved being involved in road work for the County and enjoyed driving and supervising the dump trucks. Johnny also enjoyed playing video games with his grandchildren and liked constructing buildings. He would help anyone who needed help; giving them whatever they needed regardless of his needs.

Johnny is survived by his loving wife of 42 years Joyce Prisock Haimes of Louisville; his daughter Kawanna Kay Parsons and husband Douglas of Rochester, Indiana; and step-daughter Rosie Bradford also of Louisville. One of his greatest joys was being “PawPaw” to his four grandchildren: Melissa Smith, Timothy Smith, Bryan Smith, and Kaleb Haimes; as well as his two great-grandchildren Hailey Miller and Mackenzie Robison. He is also survived by two brothers Jeffy (Dot) Hames and Billy (Elsie) Haimes in addition to his nieces, nephews, and friends. He is preceded in death by his daughter Cindy Lanae Haimes; his parents; and his sister Bettye Youngblood.

Gladys Drewery

Gladys Drewery, age 89, passed away surrounded by her loving family Friday, January 17, 2020, at Methodist Hospital in Olive Branch, Mississippi. Gladys was born June 12, 1930, to Walter and LaVada Dempsey in Louisville, Mississippi. She enjoyed reading and loved spending time with her family.

Gladys is survived by her children: Paul Drewery of Louisville; Ann Thompson of Olive Branch; David Drewery also of Olive Branch; and Judy Monroe of Memphis, Tennessee. One of her greatest joys was being “Mawmaw” to her 17 grandchildren: Crystal Marie Drewery, Walter Earl Drewery, James Lee Drewery, James Michael Drewery, James Paul Drewery, Jr., Pamela Drewery, Russell Lynn Thompson, Richard Thompson, James Aranda, Janet Drewery, Sandy Drewery, Karen Drewery, Stacey Drewery, Teresa Monroe, Curtis Monroe, Shannon Monroe, and Crystal Monroe; as well as her 33 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Christine McClelland of Starkville, Mississippi; and her brother Jerry Lee “Chicken” Dempsey and wife Pat of Louisville; in addition to her nieces, nephews, and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband Roy Price Drewery; three sons: Walter Earl Drewery, Mike Drewery, and Chester Drewery; four grandchildren: Anthony Leo Drewery, Jennifer Nicole Drewery, Randy Allen, and Richard Lee; her parents; her brother Sonny Dempsey; and her sister Lucille Buford.

Marian Reel

Marian Louise Reel passed away Thursday, January 16, 2020, at Choctaw County Nursing Center, in Ackerman, MS. She was 86 years old. Mrs. Reel was born October 15, 1933, in Gladwin, MI, to Ivan and Thelma(Gruno) Rawles. Mrs. Reel was a retired dietician for French Camp Academy in French Camp, MS.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2020, 2:00 p.m., at Coleman Funeral Home in Ackerman, MS. Visitation will be Saturday, January 18, 2020, from 12:00 noon till service time. Burial will follow in Crape Creek Cemetery near Stewart, MS.

NaniLou McCarty Long

Mrs. Nanilou McCarty Long was born February 13, 1927, and passed away January 16, 2020. She was a member of the Ackerman Baptist Church and a retired bookkeeper for the Choctaw County School System.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2020, 11:00 a.m., at Ackerman Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. till service time at the church.

Mrs. Long was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmie Lawrence Long; daughter, Cheryl Long Stacy; son, Jimmie Glen "Pete" Long; son-in-law, Jerry Johnson; and parents, Troy and Clara McCarty.

She is survived by her daughter, Betty Long Johnson of Ackerman, MS; son, David Long of Ackerman, MS; son-in-law, Terry Stacy of Ackerman, MS; 5 granddaughters; 1 grandson; and 13 great-grandchildren. She also leaves a sister, Martha Oswalt of Ackerman, MS, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Bobby Joe Jennings

Mr. Jennings, 73, passed away Monday, January 13, 2020 at his residence in Winston County, where he lived most of his life. He was a welder at Taylor Machine Works. His hobbies include camping, working on electronics and family get togethers. He was a member of Indian Springs Assembly of God.

Paul Thomas Newlin, Sr.

Paul Thomas Newlin, Sr. 69, passed away January 12, 2020 at his home. Visitation will be Tuesday, January 14, 2020 from 12-3 p.m. at Jordan Funeral Home in Kosciusko and from 5-8 p.m. at New Haven Baptist Church. Funeral services will be Wednesday, January 15, 2020 at 11 a.m. at New Haven Baptist Church with burial to follow in the New Haven Cemetery. Rev. Jim Gardner will officiate.

He attended New Haven Baptist Church. He retired after 30+ years of nursing as a Licensed Practical Nurse. He was the first male nurse to graduate from the Holmes LPN program in the late 1970’s. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed the outdoors. He loved baseball and helped coach his children and grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Beverly Newlin of Weir; sons, Paul Thomas Newlin, Jr. and Kyle Newlin, both of Weir; daughter, Joy Ryles of Los Angeles, CA; seven grandchildren, Brandon Newlin, Christopher Newlin, Tori Newlin, Abby Newlin, Kasey Newlin, Tyler Boyd, and Keaton Boyd; great-grandchildren, Kave Newlin, Xander Newlin, and Rowan Newlin; sister, Barbara Howard and husband, R. A. of Weir; brother-in-law, Charlie May of Weir; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Lewis and Rosalie Lanell Spears Newlin; and sister, Charlotte May. Joseph Leon Merritt

Mr. Leon Merritt, age 100, passed away surrounded by his loving family Monday, January 13, 2020, at his residence in Louisville, Mississippi. Visitation will be Thursday, January 16, from 5:00 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Nowell Massey Funeral Home in Louisville. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday, January 17, at Poplar Flat Baptist Church with Bro. Dan Robertson officiating. Graveside services and interment will immediately follow the service in Poplar Flat Cemetery with Bro. Doug Wise officiating.

Leon was born May 27, 1919, to B. F. and Lula McCann Merritt in Sturgis, Mississippi. He was a member of Poplar Flat Baptist Church where he faithfully served as the music director for many years; he was also a deacon; and a Sunday school teacher. Over the years, he also led the music for many revivals. Leon was also active in the Brotherhood and Visitation Ministry of Poplar Flat Church and in the Winston County Baptist Association. He answered the call of his country by serving from 1942 to 1946 in the United States Marine Corp. Leon spent two and one-half years in the South Pacific Theater of World War II where he participated in actions against the enemy in two major battles: Battle of Tarawa in the Gilbert Islands in 1943 and Battle of Saipan fought on the island of Saipan and Battle of Tinian fought on the island of Tinian both in the Mariana Islands in 1944. He returned from his overseas duty and married the love of his life, Gladys Taylor of Louisville. Leon was the founder and owner of Merritt Plumbing and Water Well Company which he operated for more than 30 years.

Leon is survived by his son Joe Merritt and wife Diana of Dallas, Texas; his daughter Carol Higginbotham and husband Robert of Louisville; and his sister Bertha Vickers of the Morgantown Community. One of his greatest joys was being “Granddaddy” to his six grandchildren: Megan (Bob) Thomas, Emma (Wesley) Teague, Josh McNeill, J. D. (Katelin) McNeill, Julee (Bennie Ray) Watkins, and Kiel (Lara) Higginbotham. He also enjoyed being “Granddaddy” to his six great-grandchildren: Maci McNeill, Maggie McNeill, Tara Thomas, Joseph Thomas, Jett Higginbotham, and Lake Higginbotham; he is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. He is preceded in death by his wife Gladys Taylor Merritt; his parents; four brothers: Thomas Merritt, Kline Merritt, Lamar Whatley, and Howard Harrod; and three sisters Lurlene Josey, Lena Heflin, and Mabel Harrod.

Serving as active pallbearers are Josh McNeill, J. D. McNeill, Kiel Higginbotham, Gerald Whatley, Robbie McMillan, and Norman White; while Bobby Stubbs will serve as an honorary pallbearer.

William “Billy” Harrington

William “Billy” Harrington, 77, died Wednesday, January 8, 2020, at Sanctuary Hospice in Tupelo, MS following a 17 year battle with cancer.  Funeral services will be Sunday, January 12, 2020, at 2:00 P.M. at the First Presbyterian Church in Starkville with Rev. Martin Lifer officiating. There will be a private graveside at Oddfellows Rest Cemetery in Aberdeen. Tisdale-Lann Memorial Funeral Home of Aberdeen is in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will be Saturday, January 11, 2020, from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at the First Presbyterian Church in Starkville.

 Mr. Harrington was born March 30, 1942, in Hattiesburg, MS. To Henry Clayton Harrington and Madge Brannan Harrington. He graduated from Aberdeen High School, attended college and was in the first graduating class at the LSU School of Banking. He was a Banker for BancorpSouth. Mr. Harrington participated in Meals on Wheels, the Casserole Kitchen and the Cooking team at his church. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Starkville.

Survivors include his wife Brenda Kirkpatrick Harrington of Starkville, MS; two sons Hays Brannan Harrington (Melina) of Phoenix, AZ and Reed Halbert Harrington (Yancey) of Brandon, MS; one daughter-in-law Laurie Harrington of Brandon, MS, and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, one son and an infant daughter. Pallbearers will be David Cheatham, Britt Goodin, Jeremy Tabor, Austin Hipps, Roger Caperton, and William Harrington.

Kent Roberts

Mr. Henry Kent Roberts, 76, passed away on January 10, 2020, at his home in Louisville. Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 13th, at 3:00 P.M., at Porter Funeral Home, with Rev. Mike Childs officiating. Visitation will be Monday from 1:00 P.M. until service time at the funeral home. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Kent was born on January 6, 1944, in Louisville, MS. He was a graduate of Louisville High School, and was a veteran of the U. S. Navy. He retired after many years as a mail carrier with the U. S. Postal Service, and was a member of First Methodist Church. Kent was well known for his Sunday Morning Gospel program that he hosted for many years on WLSM radio in Louisville.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Lillian Renea Roberts; and his parents, Dossie and Christine Roberts.

He is survived by a daughter, Misty Michelle Roberts of Ofallon, MO; a sister, Genia Roberts Dufour of Sevierville, TN; brothers, Robin Roberts of Louisville, John Larry Roberts of Eustis, FL, and Dossie Steven Roberts of Columbia, MO; and two grandchildren, Gordon Russell (Addie) Butts and Jonathan Ryan (Megan) Butts.

Herbert M. Conn

Mr. Herbert M. Conn, 82, passed away on Thursday, January 9, 2020, at his home in Macon, MS. Graveside services and interment will be held Sunday, January 12th at 2:00 P.M., at Yellow Creek Cemetery. Porter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Herbert was born January 5, 1938, in Noxubee County, MS. He was a machine operator for Georgia Pacific, and a member of Zion Chapel Church. He was preceded in death by his mother, Freddie Conn, and one brother, Alton Conn.

He is survived by his wife, Ellen Black Conn of Macon, MS; two daughters, Sandra (Richard) Lee of Louisville, and Janette (Ryan) Conn of Sturgis; one son, David (Stacy) Conn of Macon; one brother, Paul Conn of Louisville; and three grandchildren, Allison Lee, Alexander Lee, and Joshua Lee.

Pallbearers are Joshua Lee, Richard Lee, Jason Conn, J.C. Lee, Brian Smith, and Chris Sullivan.

Bruce McAdory

Services for Mr. Bruce McAdory will be held Friday, January 10, 2020 at 12 noon at Oak Grove Baptist Church in Winston County with Rev. Gary Caudill officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday, January 10, 2020 at 10 a.m. at Oak Grove Baptist Church until service time. McClain-Hays is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. McAdory, 80, died Wednesday, January 8, 2020 at his home. He was a native of Winston County and retired from Illinois Central Gulf Railroad in 1985. Mr. McAdory was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church.

Survivors include daughter, Renae McAdory Shaw (Ricky) of Louisville; son, Kevin McAdory of Decatur; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sister, Dorothy Hendrix of Columbus; special aunt, Gwin Robertson of Ridgeland.

Preceded in death by his wife, Rebecca “Becky” McAdory; parents, Bernard and Ethel McAdory; brothers, James Berlin, Kenneth and Charles McAdory; sister, Carol Cumberland.

Samuel Thomas Eaves

Samuel Thomas Eaves, 31, of Louisville, MS passed away at his home Monday, December 30, 2019. A funeral service is planned for Sunday, January 12, 2020 at 2 p.m. at Butler Pentecostal Church in Shuqualak, MS. Interment will follow in Butler Cemetery. A visitation will be held at Cockrell Funeral Home Chapel Saturday, January 11, 2020 from 6-8 p.m.

Samuel is survived by his son, Liam; his parents, Toni Etzkorn Eaves and Kenneth Eaves, and his brother, Tyler Eaves.

Harry Webb Britt

Mr. Harry Webb Britt, 71, passed away on Wednesday, January 8, 2020, at his home in Louisville.

Harry was born October 18, 1948, in Meridian, MS. He served in the U. S. Air Force for several years as a canine handler and trainer, and worked for many years as a driver for UPS. He had been disabled in recent years due to a stroke. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Carmen and Billy Joe Britt, Sr.

He is survived by his wife, Beverly Dempsey Britt of Louisville; a son, Joseph Robert (Cyndle) Britt of Meridian, MS; a daughter, Kelly Elizabeth (Nick) Sikes of Jackson, MS; two sisters, Betty Britt of Doraville, GA, and Linda Britt of Laurel, MS; a brother, B. J. (Carilu) Britt, Jr. of Marietta, GA; and three grandchildren, Parker Britt, Mackenzie Britt, and Adan Britt.

Alene Hamm Peters

Mrs. Allene Hamm Peters, 94, passed away on Monday, January 6, 2020, at the Lexington Manor Nursing Home in Lexington, MS. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, January 9th, at Porter Funeral Home, with Rev. Charlie Long and Rev. Denson Landrum officiating. Allene was born December 3, 1925, in Winston County, MS, to Ada Richardson Hamm and Aljernon Hamm. She worked as a waitress, a line worker at TRW, and also the Louisville Garment Factory for many years. Mrs. Peters was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ned Peters; her son, Robert Stovall; four sisters, Elizabeth Hamm, Frances Quinn, Madge Brumfield, and Lorene Dees; and four brothers, Marion Hamm, Donald Hamm, Fred Hamm, and J.E. Hamm.

She is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Tate and husband Billy, of West, MS; six grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and three great great grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Ronnie Hamm, Kenn Tate, Michael Tate, Robbie Stovall, Brandon Stovall, and Billy Quinn.

Hezekiah "Heze" Chancellor

Hezekiah “Heze” Chancellor, age 65, passed away Saturday, January 4, 2020, in Louisville, Mississippi. Hezekiah was born February 3, 1954, to Winston and Wanda Bateman Chancellor in Louisville. He retired after many years as an auto salesman. Heze loved to fish, hunt, and watch westerns. He also enjoyed keeping up with each grandchild’s sporting activities.

Heze is survived by Sheila Chapman of Louisville; and his daughters Leigha Beatty and husband Joe; and Jody Taylor and husband Scott all of Preston, Mississippi. One of his greatest joys was being “PawPaw” to his eight grandchildren: Madison, Josh, and Maeley Beatty, Chancee (Tanner) Dalton; Coley Taylor, and Emma and Joe Wylie Duett; and his great-grandson Winston Carter Dalton. Heze is also survived by his brother Van (Betty) Chancellor of Houston, Texas, as well as his nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his daughter Loree Duett; his parents; and his sister Mary Lou Luke.

Shirley F. Gunter

Shirley Faye Gunter, age 79, passed away Wednesday, January 1, 2020, at St. Dominic Memorial Hospital in Jackson, Mississippi. Shirley was born February 17, 1940, to James and Betty Haggard White in Louisville. She was one of the last known living members of Sardis Baptist Church. Shirley retired from Cal-Jac Factory in Macon, Mississippi, where she worked for 40 years. She was an avid reader and gardener; she loved her flowers; and collecting angels and tea pots.

Mrs. Gunter is survived by her husband Sammy Gunter of Lena, Mississippi; and her children: Sandra Ann Stewart and husband Ricky of Hazlehurst, Mississippi; Billy L. Higginbotham and wife Patsy also of Lena; and Larry T. Higginbotham and wife Anita Kay of West Point, Mississippi. One of her greatest joys was being “Granny” to her four grandchildren: Ashley (Sumer) Howard, Summer Burkes, Cindy (Lee) Vreeland, and Natalie Kay Higginbotham; and her nine great-grandchildren: Nicholas Howard, Heaven Howard, Autumn Howard, Ali Montgomery, Dawson Butler, Carson Butler, Stoney Burkes, Hudson Boykin, and Kruz Vreeland. She is also survived by her nieces and nephew Bettye and Charlie Higginbotham; Bobby (Dorothy) White; and Ethel Hunt as well as a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, and friends. Shirley is preceded in death by her parents; and her siblings: J. C. (Christine) White, Gerald White, R. A. (Addie Lee) White, Lamar (Anna Belle) White, and Sylvia White Vowell.
