Wendell R. Manning

Funeral services for Mr. Wendell R. Manning will be held at 4:00 PM Sunday, September 1, 2019 at Mars Hill Pentecostal Church in Winston County. Rev. Bryan Madison, Rev. Lonoia Burks, Rev. Dwight Fleming and Rev. Lloyd Adcock will be officiating the service. The body will lie in state 2 hours prior to service at the church. Interment will be in Mars Hill Cemetery in Winston County. Visitation 4-8 PM Saturday, August 31, 2019 at John E. Stephens Chapel Funeral Services.

Mr. Manning, 81, passed away Wednesday, August 28, 2019 at Neshoba County Nursing Home surrounded by his loving family. He lived in Mars Hill Community all of his life. He was a self employed logger for 50 years. He enjoyed fishing and gardening. Mr. Manning was a member of Mars Hill Volunteer Fire Department, Civil Defense-Winston County, Mississippi Firefighter’s Association, Winston County Firefighter’s Association and Auxillary Deputy Sheriff-Winston County. Mr. Manning was a Tornado Spotter, keeping everyone safe on “The Rock”. He organized many benefits in the community and was a friend to all!

Mr. Manning is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Pam Manning of Philadelphia; Mother, Lydia Manning of Philadelphia; Sons, Tim Manning and his wife, Karen of Philadelphia, Ted Manning and his wife, Barbara of Philadelphia, Sam Manning and his wife, Dawn of Memphis and Donald Joe Nowell and his wife, Vanessa of Philadelphia; (5) Grandchildren, Jessica Barnett and her husband, Allan, Kaitlin Copeland and her husband, Jason, Belle Manning, Minnie Nowell and Lyra Nowell; (1) Great-Grandchild, Ivy Kait Copeland. He was preceded in death by his father, Therrell Samuel Manning.

Pallbearers: Dewayne Howard, Glen Sisson, Derek Wyatt, Billy Vowell, Jason Pugh, Terry Fortenberry and Nathan Commer.

Tammy Renae Littrell

Tammy Renae Littrell, 51, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, August 31, 2019, at her residence in Louisville, Mississippi. Visitation will be Sunday, September 1, 2019, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Nowell Massey Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Monday, September 2, 2019, at 11 a.m. in the Nowell Massey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Keen officiating. Interment will immediately follow the service in New Hope Cemetery.

Tammy was born July 31, 1968, to Willie Earl and Dorothy Dempsey Stevenson. She was a member of West End Baptist Church. Tammy worked for most of her career at Georgia Pacific Chemical Plant as an Administrative Office/Technology Assistant. She also worked at Winston Academy and very much enjoyed helping students with their needs. She was involved with the Eagles Wings Parent Organization at Grace Christian School where she did whatever was needed in support of the school and students. Most of all, she dearly loved her family and supported her children in any activities in which they were involved.

Tammy is survived by her husband of 30 years, Stacey Littrell; her daughters Lauren and Nicole Littrell; and her parents Willie Earl and Dorothy Stevenson all of Louisville. She is also survived by her brother Brian Stevenson and wife Kristi also of Louisville; as well as her niece and nephew Braden and Jordan Stevenson. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents Jessie and Andrew Dempsey and her paternal grandparents Coy and Eunice Stevenson.

Serving as pallbearers will be Billy Don Baker, Mark Littrell, Paul Littrell, P. J. Littrell, William Strait, and Daniel Thompson. Cynthia Lovorn Bethany

Cynthia Lovorn Bethany, 80, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, August 29, 2019, at Winston Medical Center Nursing Home in Louisville, Mississippi. Visitation will be Saturday, August 31, 2019, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Nowell Massey Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Sunday, September 1, 2019, at 3 p.m. in the Nowell Massey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Michael Wells officiating. Cynthia was born October 19, 1938, to O. T. and Bonnie Kate Whitehead Lovorn. She was a member of East Louisville Baptist Church and she attended Ellison Ridge Baptist Church. For more than 33 years, she worked in the Louisville Municipal School District as the secretary at Eiland Middle School and later as the Purchasing Agent in the Central Office. She also spent 14 years working for the Mississippi Highway Patrol in Jackson in the bookkeeping department.

Cynthia is survived by her husband of 48 years, Billy Bethany; and her daughter Brigitte Sheridan and husband Ken all of Louisville. She is also survived by her sister Patricia Lovorn Eaves and husband John Arthur of Jackson, Mississippi; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents. 

Serving as pallbearers will be Brian Brumfield, Brady Eaves, Christian Eaves, John Arthur Eaves, John Eaves, Jr., and Sterling Eaves. Memorials in honor of Cynthia may be given to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Tribute Program, P. O. Box 1000 Department 142, Memphis, TN 38148-0142.

Deanna J. Carrubba

Mrs. Deanna J. Carrubba, 81, passed away on Sunday, August 25, 2019, at her home in Louisville. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Thursday, August 29th, at Porter Funeral Home, with Rev. Mrs. Carrubba was born July 14, 1938, in Los Angeles, CA. She was a graduate of Escondido High School in California, and later attended Mississippi State University. She was a former Sunday School teacher for 3rd and 4th grade, and was active in the Garden Clubs in Rolling Fork and Columbus, MS. She was an avid Dodgers baseball fan.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mary Jane and Boyd Ivan Farrell; and a son-in-law, Richard Hutto.

She is survived by her husband, Rev. Bryan Carrubba of Louisville; a daughter, Donelia Jane Hutto, and son, Richard Boyd Fowler, both of Louisville; a sister, Darlene Sorric of Ramona, CA; 6 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Robert Hutto, Joe Tucker, Ricky Hutto, Jay Logan, Cliff Hudson, and Richard Fowler.

Thomas E. Croft, Jr.

Services for Thomas E. Croft, Jr. will be held Saturday, August 24, 2019, at 11 a.m. from McClain-Hays Chapel with Dr. Mike Carr officiating. Burial will follow in Longino Cemetery. Mr. Croft, 70, of Philadelphia, died August 21, 2019.

He was a native of Louisville and a resident of Philadelphia. He formerly worked at Spartus of Louisville, U.S. Motors, Chata, and Richardson Moulding. After retirement he worked as a courier for The Citizens Bank and a part-time route distribution worker for The Neshoba Democrat. He served in Desert Storm and retired after 20 years from Mississippi National Guard 155th Armed Brigade in Louisville. Mr. Croft attended Trinity Baptist Church in Philadelphia.

Survived by his wife Linda Cosgrove Croft of Philadelphia; daughter, Cindy Croft of Ruston, La; son, Chris (Terri) Croft of Hattiesburg; sister-in-law, Susan Cosgrove of Philadelphia; brother-in-law, Mike (Sylvia) Cosgrove of Lawrence, MS; four nephews and their families.

Preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Alberta Croft.

Robert Lamar “Butch” Henry

Mr. Robert Lamar “Butch” Henry, 65, passed away on August 21, 2019, at his home in Louisville. Butch was born August 2, 1954, in the Mississippi Delta, where he grew up as the youngest of 15 children. He worked in construction for many years until he became disabled.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sandra Scott Henry; and his parents. He is survived by two sons, Scott Henry and Chris Henry, both of Louisville; two sisters, Ruth Endelman and Thelma Henry; two brothers, Marvin Henry and Bill Henry; and two grandchildren, Tyler Henry and Evan Henry.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

Mary Nell Lowery Hankins

Graveside services for Ms. Mary Nell Lowery Hankins were held at 11 AM Tuesday, August 20, 2019 at Bay Springs Cemetery with Rev. Jonathan Nowell and Rev. John E. Stephens officiating. Visitation was 8-9 AM same day as service. John E. Stephens Chapel Funeral Services in charge.

Ms. Hankins, 84, passed away Sunday, August 18, 2019 at Choctaw Residential Center. She lived in Bay Springs most of her life, but has lived in Neshoba County for the past six years. She was a waitress. Her hobbies include crafts and bingo. Ms. Hankins was Baptist.

Preceded in death: Parents, Walter B. Loveless and Jessie Mae Jenkins Loveless; Husbands, Huey P. Lowery and Billy Ray Hankins Sr.; Daughter, Cynthia Lynn Lowery; Son, Jerry Lavelle Lowery; Brother, James Robert Loveless.

Survivors: Daughters, Patricia Darlene Nowell (Timothy) of Philadelphia, Deborah Ann McPherson of LA and Mary Helen Lowery of TX; Sons, Douglas Ray Lowery of Louisville and Charles Randall Lowery (Sandra) of Louisville; (11) Grandchildren; (11) Great-grandchildren.

Nancy Starnes Romaine

Nancy Starnes Romaine, 72, a native of Sturgis, MS passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 20, 2019, surrounded by loved ones at her home of 52 years in Panama City, FL.

Todd Russell

Todd Russell, 44, passed away on Saturday, August 17, 2019, at his residence in DeKalb, Mississippi. Todd was born September 18, 1974. He was a graduate of Kemper County High School and was an avid NASCAR fan. Todd enjoyed working with Joey at their sawmill cutting logs into lumber and he also liked working with wood to make items.

Anthony "Tony" Toles

Mr. William Anthony “Tony” Toles, 63, passed away on Thursday, August 15, 2019, at the MS State Veterans Home in Jackson, MS. Tony was born on October 23, 1955, in Jackson, MS, where he spent most of his life. He was a graduate of Pearl High School, and was an Army veteran.

Tony was preceded in death by his parents, William Lee Toles and Mary Alice Watson West; and a brother, Morgan Toles.

He is survived by his sister, Lee Ann (Gene) Merkl of Starkville; two brothers, Hardy West of Dalton, GA and Solon West of Davie, FL; a nephew, Morgan Merkl; his aunts, Jean (Walter) Allen of Louisville, and Linda Walker of Starkville; and several cousins.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Charles A. “Chuck” Mask Jr.

Charles A. "Chuck" Mask, Jr. passed away Saturday, August 10, 2019, at North Mississippi Medical Center, Tupelo, MS. He was 64 years old. Mr. Mask was born January 11, 1955, in Memphis, TN, to Charles A. (Sr.) and Mary Evelyn (Barnett) Mask. Mr. Mask was a navy veteran, mechanic, and heavy equipment operator.

Services will be held on Wednesday, August 14, 2019, 1:00 p.m., at Sturgis Baptist Church, in Sturgis, MS, with Rev. Russell Mord and Rev. Doran Henry officiating. Otis Houston

Otis Houston, 86, passed away on Thursday, August 8, 2019 at NHC Healthcare in Tullahoma, Tennessee. Funeral services will be 4:00 p.m. Sunday, August 11, 2019, at Ellison Ridge Baptist Church in Louisville, Mississippi with Zach Stevens and Rev. Michael Wells officiating. Otis was born February 18, 1933, to John King and Mary Hill Houston. He was a member of Vernon Methodist Church and the owner of Houston’s Windshield Repair in Louisville and was a proud Veteran of the United States Navy. Otis enjoyed bird hunting, fishing and spending time with his family and friends.

Otis is survived by his wife of 59 years, Virginia Carr Houston; his daughter, Lori Stevens and husband, Trey all of Tullahoma, Tennessee. One of his greatest joys was being “Granddaddy” to his two grandchildren: Lindsay Hagstrom and husband, Christian and Zach Stevens and his fiancée, Erin Ringenberg. Otis also leaves to mourn his sister-in-law, Maxine Houston. He was preceded in death by his parents; his two brothers, Theodore Houston, Olyn Houston and his sister, Jessie Houston White.

Margaret Moore Hollister Wolfe, 96, passed away on Monday, August 5, 2019, at the Bee Hive in Starkville, Mississippi. Visitation will be the day of the service from 11:30 a.m. until service time at the church. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.

Margaret Moore Hollister Wolfe, born in St. James, Louisiana to John “Jack” Jamison Hollister and Sallie Beauchamp Hollister August 24, 1922. Shortly thereafter she moved with her family to Pascagoula where she attended Beach School. She was a proud graduate of Pascagoula High School, class of 1940. She received multiple letters in basketball, track and cheerleading. Her Senior year Margaret Moore won Outstanding Senior Athlete.

After attending Business College in New Orleans she went to work for the United States Government. She worked in Pascagoula, Beaufort, SC, Biloxi and finally San Antonio. After retiring from Randolph Air Force Base she returned to South Pascagoula.

She was active in the PEO, First United Methodist Church, Tuesday Bridge Club, Wednesday Sewing Club and the Republican Party, serving as President of the Jackson County Republican Women’s Club. She attended several Republican National Conventions proudly representing Jackson County and Mississippi. She lived in Pascagoula until she moved to Starkville, Mississippi last Fall to receive more attentive care at The Beehive. The family would like to thank Ann Pickett, and her family who were neighbors, true friends and Margaret Moore’s “right arm”.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and brother Captain George Jamison Hollister. She is survived by her two nephews Dr. John “Jack” Hollister and his wife Jan of Starkville and Stevens Hollister, and his wife Laura of Madison. She is also survived by many great nieces and nephews as well as great, great nieces and nephews who she loved dearly.

Alton Tollison

Alton Tollison, 88, passed away on Sunday, August 4, 2019, at Winston Medical Center Nursing Home in Louisville, Mississippi. Visitation will be Tuesday, August 6, 2019, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Nowell Massey Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, August 7, 2019, in the Nowell Massey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Sammy McMillan officiating. Janet Marie Miller

Janet Marie Miller, 49, of Weir, Mississippi, passed on Tuesday, July 30, 2019, at the Choctaw County Hospital, Ackerman, Mississippi. Funeral Service will be Saturday, August 10, 2019, at 11 a.m., from First Unity United Methodist Church, Weir, MS. Visitation will be Friday, from 3 until 6 p.m., from the Funeral Home, Weir Location. Mrs. Miller, will be reposed in the Church on Saturday, one hour before service time. Burial will be in the Weir Chapel Cemetery. Beck Funeral Home of Weir in charge of arrangements.

Bobby Holton

Services for Bobby Wayne Holton will be held Sunday, August 4, 2019, at 2 p.m. from Noxapater Baptist Church with Rev. Mike Fondren and Rev. Gerald Branum officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery in Winston County. Visitation will be held Saturday, August 3, 2019, from 5 until 8 p.m. at McClain-Hays Funeral Home and one hour prior to service at the church. McClain-Hays Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Holton, 83, of Noxapater, died Wednesday, July 31, 2019.

He was born and raised in Neshoba County and a resident of Winston County for the past 40 years. Mr. Holton was a veteran of the U. S. Army, serving in Germany in the military police. After his service he moved back home where he worked in law enforcement for several years, and then began his career with the USPO until his retirement. He farmed for many years. Mr. Holton was a Mason in Philadelphia Lodge #39.

Survivors include his son, Barry W. Holton of Noxapater; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Mr. Holton was preceded in death by his wife, Judy Alexander Holton; parents, Com and Lillian Holton; and brothers, Percy Holton and James “Sonny” Holton.

Mavis Dennis Ammons

Mrs. Mavis Dennis Ammons, 97, passed away on Thursday, August 1, 2019, at Winston Medical Center in Louisville, MS. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, August 3rd, at Memorial Park Cemetery, with Rev. Mike Childs officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Porter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Ammons was born December 8, 1921, in Queensland, Australia. Mavis was a retired R.N., and a member of First Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Quinton L. Ammons; her brother, Colin Dennis; and her parents, Margaret Rose Crozier and Henry Ellis Dennis.

Survivors include her daughter, Denise Walker of Louisville, MS; her son, Robert Ammons of Whitehaven, FL; 3 grandchildren and 1 step-grandchild; and 2 great grandchildren and 2 step-great grandchildren.

Ruby Etzkorn

Ms. Ruby Etzkorn, 85, passed away surrounded by her family on Tuesday, July 30, 2019, at her residence in Louisville, MS. A memorial services will be scheduled at a later date.

Ruby was born June 11, 1934, to Noah and Dolly Pardon Preston. She enjoyed gardening, farming, sewing, and taking care of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well as being a homemaker.

She is survived by her four daughters, Toni Eaves of Louisville, Mississippi, Karen McCaffree of Shreveport, Louisiana, Miki Sims of Tupelo, Mississippi, and Sarah Gillilan of Tampa, Florida; one sister, Mary Young of Hattiesburg, Mississippi. One of her greatest joys was being “Nannie” to her nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Athel Louise Etzkorn; her daughter, Kellie Etzkorn; and her son, Jeffery Etzkorn.

Bonnie Eldridge

Bonnie Eldridge passed away Wednesday, July 31, 2019, at North Mississippi Medical Center, Tupelo, MS. She was 62 years old. Bonnie was born November 16, 1956, in Benton, MS to James and Billie Rose(Brown) Whittington. Before becoming disabled due to health issues, she was a Surgical Tech.

Services will be held on Sunday, August 4, 2019, 3:00 p.m., at Coleman Funeral Home in Ackerman, MS, with Rev. Warren Hunt officiating. Visitation will be Sunday, August 4, 2019, from 1:00 p.m. till 3:00 p.m. service time, at Coleman Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Concord Cemetery near Ackerman, MS.

Ms. Eldridge is survived by 1 son, Charles Moudy(Cindy) of Baldwin, MS; 2 daughters, Billie Charlene Tharp(Michael) of Tupelo, MS, and Melissa Brown of Saltillo, MS, 6 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren.

Ms. Eldridge was preceded in death by her parents, and 1 sister, Kathy Perry.
