Sarah Matson, 90, passed away on Thursday, March 3, 2016, at Neshoba General Hospital in Philadelphia, Mississippi. Funeral services will be at 12 noon on Saturday, March 5, 2016, in the Nowell Massey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Byron Howell officiating. Visitation will be the day of the service at Nowell Massey Funeral Home from 10 a.m. until service time. Interment will follow in Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
Ms. Matson was born September 15, 1925, to Robert Henry and Ura Mae Hancock Holton. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Louisville and she worked at TRW in Louisville and Indianapolis Glove Factory in Noxapater. She also enjoyed working in her yard and garden and until recently when her health declined, she continued to work hard at keeping her house including climbing a ladder to wash windows.
Ms. Matson is survived by two sons, Robert Matson of Noxapater, Mississippi; and Mike Matson and wife, Karen, of Saucier, Mississippi; her sister-in-law, Lee Holton; and her brother-in-law, Roy Shepperd, both of Noxapater. Also left to mourn the passing of their “Grandma” is two grandchildren: Richard Matson and wife, Amanda, of Puckett, Mississippi; and Bridget Matson of Starkville, Mississippi. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon “Dick” Matson; her parents; three brothers, Robert Henry Holton, Jr; Dolly Wayne Holton; and James Holton; and by four sisters, Ollie Mae Reaves; Hazel Wylie; Ludean Miles; and Doris Shepperd.
Serving as pallbearers will be Wayne Gregg, Richie Matson, Wayne Miles, Scott Shepperd, Tim Shepperd, and Wayne Swindle. Memorials may be given to Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 19 Asa Thomas Road, Noxapater, MS 39346.
