Luther James "L. J. " Patterson Jr


Luther James “L. J.” Patterson, Jr., 77, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, June 16, 2015, at his residence in Preston, Mississippi. Visitation will be Thursday, June 18, 2015, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Nowell-Massey Funeral Home in Louisville. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 19, 2015, in the Nowell-Massey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Keen, Rev. Tommy Jones, and Rev. Jason Gross officiating. Interment will follow in Jackson Field Cemetery.Mr. Patterson was born on May 2, 1938, to Luther James and Bessie Adcock Patterson, Sr. He was a member of Good Hope Baptist Church and he served as a Gideon. L. J. has lived in the community since 1973 and he is a retired Dry-Wall Contractor.

L. J. is survived by his wife of 32 years, Frances Wright Patterson; his daughters, Kim Patterson Keen and husband, David; Karin Patterson Jones and husband, Lenny; Gay Luke Alford and husband, Mitch; and Susan Luke Robbins and husband, Pat; and sons, James Allen Patterson and wife, Patricia; and Lee Luke. One of his greatest joys was being “Pawpaw” to his ten grandchildren: Lindsey Keen Sanders and husband, Cliff; Laney Keen Barrett and husband, Justin; T. J. Robbins and wife, Mary Margaret; Emily Siano; Brad Stapleton; Rachel Siano; Mary Elizabeth Siano; Joseph Patterson; Madison Alford; and Abbi Patterson; as well as four great-grandchildren: Cooper Lane Sanders, Lawson Barrett, Linkin Barrett, and Macie; his brother, James Earl Patterson and wife, Carolyn; as well as two sisters-in-law, Peggy Patterson and Betty Patterson. Mr. Patterson was preceded in death by his parents; siblings: Elbert Patterson, Ollie Mae Higginbotham, E. C. Patterson, and Ed Patterson; and his granddaughter, Meagan Alford.

Serving as pallbearers will be Gerald Ray Goodin, Wayne Moody, Ricky Patterson, James Robbins, Bill Stewart, and Mike Whitehead. Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Hailey, Bobby Moody, Lamar Parks, Tilton Patterson, Morris Presley, Kenny Richardson, Harold Robertson, Wendell Rogers, and Elvis Vandevender. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be given to Gideon’s International, P. O. Box 556, Louisville, MS 39339.
