Mary Jane Young, 81, passed away with her loving family at her side on Saturday, December 7, 2024, at her home in Louisville, Mississippi. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, December 10 in the Massey Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Hank Dempsey officiating. Visitation will be the day of the service at the funeral home from 1 p.m. until service time. Interment will immediately follow the service in Rural Hill Cemetery.
Mary Jane was born January 28, 1943, to Lawrence and Ellen Wells Black in Winston County, Mississippi. She was a member of Antioch Baptist Church. Mary Jane loved to crochet and many family members, friends, and those in the nursing homes have blankets that she lovingly made for them. She also enjoyed talking on the phone to her friends and family. Mary Jane dearly loved her children and grandchildren.
Mary Jane is survived by her two daughters, Rachel Sullivan (Chris) and Lynn Hemphill all of Louisville. One of her greatest joys was being “Granny and Big Momma” to her grandchildren: Cricket Hemphill (Anthony Justice), Larae Cotton, Eric (Tammy) Hemphill, Charlie (Nora) Hemphill, and Hanna Hailey. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren: Jazlyn Kirk, Harley Kirk, Layla Kirk, Aaliyah Hemphill, Alyssa Cotton, Everleeanna Fulce and J.J. Mary Jane loved her friend and caregiver, Misty LaDawn Burnham and her family; hospice nurse, Robyn White; nursing assistant, Darlene Potter; and special friends, Pam Hall and Lee King very much. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ransom “Junior” Young; her son-in-law, Larry Hemphill; her parents; and her siblings, Trudy Conn, Roy Black and an infant sister.
