Elizabeth Laine

Elizabeth Laine, 82, passed away on Saturday, December 24, 2011, at Choctaw County Medical Center, Ackerman, Mississippi. 
Funeral service will be Saturday, at 1 p.m., from the Beck Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation wil be friday from 12 noon until 6 p.m., from the Beck Funeral Home
She leaves to cherish her precious memory, 5 sons, Jerry (Pearl) of Brooksville, MS., Smith(Barbara) of Louisville, MS., Tommie Ray of Meridian, MS., Willlie Earl (Sherrie) and John (Sallie) of Ackerman, MS., 2 daughters, Pearl and Rosie both of Louisville, Mississippi. 2 brothers, Willie Lee Orr of Brooksville, MS. and J. C. Mrs. Peterson was born November 18, 1926.  She was a homemaker and a member of Antioch Baptist Church.
Mrs. Peterson is survived by her husband, Billy Peterson, of Louisville, Mississippi; her daughter, Vickie Corkren and husband, Jeff, of Raymond, Mississippi; and her son, Rickey Peterson and wife, Dixie, of Phoenix City, Alabama.  She also has four grandchildren:  Landon Corkren, Heath Peterson, Haleigh Peterson, and Heather Peterson and one great-grandchild, Kason Peterson.  She is preceded in death by her parents, George and Hershel Smith Brannon; and her sister, Louise Bolton.

Dr. Thomas F. Walker

Dr. Thomas F. Walker, 79, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Monday, December 26, 2011, at his residence in Louisville, Mississippi. Visitation will be at Nowell-Massey Funeral Home in Louisville, Mississippi, on Wednesday, December 28, 2011, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.  Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, December 29, 2011, at Nowell-Massey Funeral Home Chapel in Louisville, Mississippi, with Dr. Brett Golson and Rev. Christopher Walker officiating.  Interment will be in Murphy Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. 
Dr. Walker was born April 16, 1932, and has lived in Winston County since 1958 with his wife of 60 years, Gladys Butler Walker.  He was a Doctor of Chiropractic serving those in our community for 45 years.  Dr. Walker was a member of First Baptist Church of Louisville where he served as a deacon as well as on numerous church committees.  He was also a member of the Louisville Business Men’s Club, Louisville Lions Club, Louisville Jaycees, and the Mississippi Chiropractic Association from 1958 to 2011.  As a 26-year member of the Mississippi State Board of Chiropractic Examiners, Dr. Walker held the offices of  Chairman and Vice-Chair and was elected to serve as the Executive Secretary.  He was appointed to serve on this State Board by five governors.  He was also a Fellow in the International College of Chiropractic.  He answered the call of his country by serving in the United States Army from 1949 to 1953 during the Korean Conflict.   In addition to his wife, Dr. Walker is survived by three children:  Dr. Richard Walker and wife, Barbara, of Louisville, Mississippi; Deborah Walker also of Louisville, Mississippi; and Timothy Walker and wife, Bridget, of Brandon, Mississippi.  Dr. Walker is also survived by  four grandchildren:  Christopher Walker and wife, Carla, of Birmingham, Alabama; Alison Walker of Louisville, Mississippi; Megan Walker and Katelin Walker both of Brandon, Mississippi.  He is preceded in death by his parents, Artie G. and Amy Angie Walker; his sister, Hazel Oletha Klutts; and three infant brothers.Pallbearers will be Karl Boyer, Doug Dean, Michael Cravens, Mark Donald, Jake Donald, Kyle Donald, Terry Carter, and Kevin Ryals.  Serving as honorary pallbearers will be the Wrinkled Roosters, the Deacons of First Baptist Church of Louisville, and all Doctors of Chiropractic in attendance.    Memorials may be given to The Baptist Children's Village, P. Michael "Dip" Pendleton

Mr. Michael "Dip" Pendleton, 44, passed away on Sunday, December 25, 2011, at Winona Manor Nursing Home in Winona, Mississippi. Visitation will be at Nowell-Massey Funeral Home in Louisville, Mississippi, on Monday, December 26, 2011, from 5 p.m. to 8 p. m. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 27, 2011, at Indian Springs Assembly of God Cemetery of Louisville, Mississippi, with Rev. Dwayne Barrett officiating. 
Mr. Pendleton was born December 28, 1966. He was a mechanic and was a member of First Baptist Church of Louisville.
Mr. Pendleton is survived by two sisters, Wanda Wilson and husband, Tony, of Carthage, Mississippi; and Anita Pendleton of Noxapater, Mississippi, as well as his brother, Jimmy Bidwell, also of Noxapater, Mississippi. He is also survived by four nieces: Danielle Hawley, Samantha Wilson, Stephanie Pendleton, and Brittney Pendleton, and his nephew, Kaleb Vowell. He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles Thomas and Avoy Smith Pendleton.

Mr. Carl Allbritton, 80, passed away on Friday, December 23, 2011, at his residence in Louisville, Mississippi. Visitation will be at Nowell-Massey Funeral Home in Louisville, Mississippi, on Tuesday, December 27, 2011, from 5 p.m. to 8 p. m. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 28, 2011, at Nowell-Massey Funeral Home Chapel in Louisville, Mississippi, with Rev. Franklin Smith and Rev. David Reeves officiating. Interment will be in Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery. 
Mr. Allbritton was born June 26, 1931. He was a retired instructor and was employed by Greenville Mills for 40 years. Mr. Allbritton was a member of Indian Springs Assembly of God Church in Louisville.
In addition to his wife, Alice, Mr. Allbritton is survived by his son, Danny Allbritton both of Louisville, Mississippi. He is also survived by two sisters, Grace White and husband, John; and Mary Gordon all of Greenville, Mississippi, as well as his brother, H. L. Ruppe and wife, Lillian, of Metairie, Louisiana. Mr. Allbritton also has two step-sisters, Nellie Jones of North Carrolton, Mississippi; and Pearl Johnson of Inverness, Mississippi. He is preceded in death by his parents, Fred Allbritton and Lottie Allbritton Phillips and W. D. Phillips, and his son, Jerry Allbritton.

 Mr. Paul Michael Nance, 50, died Saturday, December 24, 2011, at Winston Medical Center in Louisville. Mr. Joe Keith Partridge, 77, died Friday, December 9, 2011, at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson, MS. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P. M. Sunday, December 11th, at Porter Funeral Home, with Rev. Gary Jackson, Rev. Olyn Roberts, and Rev. James Mills officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Partidge was born May 29, 1934, in Neshoba County, MS. He was a street superintendent for the City of Louisville for 30 years, a linesman for Louisville Electric System for 23 years, and a member of Evergreen Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin A. Partridge and Loie Dell Carr.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Wylie Partidge of Louisville; a son, Joe K. (Marsha) Partridge Jr. of Louisville; two daughters, Cassandra Chancellor of Louisville, and Linda Inman of Horn Lake, MS; one brother, Tommy Partridge of Austin, TX; three grandchildren, Leigha Chancellor, Leslie Taylor, and Loree Duett; and four great grandchildren, Chance Taylor, Coley Taylor, Emma Duett, and Joe Wylie Duett.

Christine Alexander

Mrs. Christine Goodin Alexander, 84, went home to heaven on Wednesday, December 7, 2011, at her home in Louisville. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, December 10th, at Porter Funeral Home, with Rev. Gerald Branum and Rev. Jim Whitney officiating. Interment will be in Coy Methodist Church Cemetery in Kemper County. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. Friday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Alexander was born January 30, 1927 in Winston County, MS. She was a devout Christian; a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother; an avid gardener; and animal enthusiast. Mrs. Alexander loved people and never met a stranger, and was a great southern cook famous for her homemade biscuits.

She is survived by two daughters, Jolynn (Jim) Whitney of Olive Branch, MS, and Madeline (Gerald) Branum of Waterloo, Belgium; one son, Ferrell (Shelia) Alexander of Philadelphia, MS; one brother, Burlon Goodin of Philadelphia, MS; 9 grandchildren; and 16 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dave Goodin and Eva Mae Tucker; her husband, English Muldrow Alexander; and two brothers, Royce Winford Goodin and James Edward Goodin.

Mrs. Corrie Lee Brown, 97, died Tuesday, December 6, 2011, at her home in Louisville. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 A.M. on Saturday, December 10th, at Porter Funeral Home, with Rev. Mrs. Brown was born January 24, 1914, in Louisville, MS. She was a retired bookkeeper for Tillman Drugs, and co-owner of Brown Machinery Service. She was a member of First Baptist Church.

She is survived by her grandchildren, James T. (Christy) Brown and Susan Leigh (Brett) Brewer, both of Memphis, TN; and 5 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, J.T. Ingram and Allye Dempsey; her husband, T.Z. Brown; her son, Tommy Brown; her daughter-in-law Joan Brown; two brothers, Jack Ingram and James Ingram; and one sister, Eva Mae Oxford.

Steve Robertson

Mr. Dewey E. “Steve” Robertson, 84, died Tuesday, December 6, 2011, at the Winston County Nursing Home in Louisville, MS. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Friday, December 9th, at Vernon Assembly Of God Church, with Rev. Brian McDonald, Rev. Bobby Joe Butler, and Rev. Lee Watson officiating. Interment will be in Vernon Assembly Of God Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. Thursday at Porter Funeral Home, and from 9:00 to 10:00 A.M. Friday at the church.

Mr. Robertson was born March 2, 1927, in Winston County, MS. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, a retired welder for Taylor Machine Works, a Mason, and a farmer. He was a member of Vernon Assembly Of God Church.

He is survived by his daughter, Jackie (Chad) Goodin of Louisville; four sisters, Margie Gully of Rogers, AR, Mavis Hanna, Marion Bateman, and Maxine Robertson, all of Louisville; three brothers, Paul Barron Robertson of California, Wilbur Robertson Jr. and Harold Robertson, both of Louisville; and 8 grandchildren, Deanna Swearingen, Allyson Swearingen, Caleb (Jenny) Swearingen, Chandler Swearingen, Ashton Smith, Jaclyn Presley, Amera Mussa, and Kaleigh Swearingen.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilbur E. Robertson and Vera Stokes; and three brothers, Willie Robertson, Herman Robertson, and Floyd Robertson.

Mrs. Sullivan was born March 29, 1933, in Preston, MS. She was retired from Quality Control at Spartus Corp. She was a member of Ellison Ridge Baptist Church. Her hobbies included reading her bible, quilting, gardening, word search puzzles, and enjoying time with her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James Edgar and Lessie Mae McDonald; a sister, Walterine Moore; and brothers, Paul McDonald, Grady McDonald, Lindsey McDonald, and twins, Edgar & Lester McDonald. She is survived by her husband of 61 years (married 8/4/1950) , Billy B. He is also survived by his sister, Christine Thompson and husband, Robert, of Tupelo, Mississippi, and one brother, Jamie Higgason and wife, Glenda, of Louisville, Mississippi. Ralph Franklin Shotts

Mr. Ralph Franklin Shotts, 86, died Monday, November 7, 2011, at Winston Medical Center in Louisville. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, Nov. 10th, at First Baptist Church, with Dr. Brett Golson officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Porter Funeral Home.

Mr. Shotts was born August 13, 1925, in Finkbine, MS. He was an Army Air Force veteran of World War II, having served in India, China, & Burma. He received his B.S. degree from Mississippi State University in 1951. He owned and operated Eastside Motors since 1972. He was a former Scoutmaster for the Cub Scouts, and was a member of First Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Rena and Lee Shotts; and two brothers, Edgar Shotts and Charles Ray Shotts.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Annette Avara Shotts; two sons, Charles (Rhonda) Shotts, and Frankie (Sue) Shotts, both of Louisville; a brother, Gene (Zene) Shotts of Mendenhall, MS; three grandchildren, Jamie (Laura) Shotts, Jay Shotts, and Ryan Shotts ; and one great grandchild, Jacey Shotts.

Henry Bruce Goodin

Mr. Henry Bruce Goodin, 69, died Friday, November 4, 2011, at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson, MS. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, November 6th, at Porter Funeral Home, with Rev. Bobby Joe Butler and Rev. Gerald Butler officiating. Interment will be in Crystal Ridge Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Saturday at Porter Funeral Home.

Mr. Goodin was born December 14, 1941 in Winston County, Mississippi. He was a carpenter for Hughes Construction, and an avid quail hunter and fisherman. He was preceded in death by his parents, Commie Wilson Goodin and Lizzie Bell Butler.

He is survived by his wife, Judy Robertson Goodin of Louisville; a daughter, Kimberly (Daniel) Robertson of Louisville; two sons, Chad (Jackie) Goodin and Brad Goodin, both of Louisville; four sisters, Kathleen Robertson of Louisville, Nita McAdory of St. Clair Shores, MI, Patsy Perry of Flora, MS, and Mary Jane Soufi of Gaithursburg, MD; three brothers, Bennie Goodin of Emmett. MI, Paul Goodin of Sturgis, MS, and Ricky Goodin of Louisville; and six grandchildren, Ashton Goodin, Austin Goodin, Justin Goodin, Kalee Goodin, Chandler Robertson, and Camden Robertson.

Sherry Ann Taff

Sherry Ann Taff, born on August 7, 1951, in Louisville, Mississippi, died suddenly on October 29, 2011. She is preceded in death by her mother and father Eddie Mae and Howard Leon White and her sister Sandra White Creed. She is survived by her loving husband, John Snowden Taff, with whom she shared 37 years of marriage, her daughter Sarah Quinn Power and husband Jarrod Power of San Antonio, her son Caleb Snowden Taff of San Antonio, her sister Susan White Dempsey of Louisville, Mississippi, her Uncle Bobby and Aunt Cynthia White of Pickensville, Alabama, as well as a host of beloved cousins, nieces and nephews.

Sherry will be remembered by her family, her students, and her friends as someone who lived with passion and energy dedicated always to helping others. As a career educator she wanted her students, including her children, to know how to learn.

Sherry received her BA and MA degrees in Educational Psychology from Mississippi State University. Upon graduation she and her husband John served two years in Costa Rica with the Peace Corps. Upon returning to the states Sherry began her career as a teacher. She taught for 25 years in the Northside Independent School District atClark High School, Stinson Middle School and O’Conner High School. She received additional post-graduate training in Clinical Psychology from St. Mary’s University and was certified as a Licensed Specialist in School Psychology so that she could test and diagnose students with learning disabilities. Her extensive on-going research on cognitive learning led her to develop a style of curriculum and methodology that can be used by teachers of any subject to aid a student’s ability to learn. Upon retirement from NISD, she continued to work with teachers, giving workshops in the Northside and Harlendale school districts and other school districts in Texas. She was currently working on her Doctorate in Education through the Educational Leadership Program at The University of Texas at San Antonio.

Sherry willingly gave of her time and abilities to help others wherever she found a need. She touched the lives of thousands of students and others, whether it was tutoring children, helping troubled teens, conducting community Bible studies or working with her church youth group. In all, her highest commitment through her Christian faith was to her family.

A memorial service for Sherry will be held on Saturday, November 5, 2011 at 10:00 AM at Wayside Chapel with visitation with family to follow. 1705 Northwest Loop 410, San Antonio, Texas 78213. She is also survived by a step-daughter, Tess Satcher and husband, Jonathan, of New Hope, Mississippi; a step-son, Trey Holmes and wife, Amanda, of Columbus, Mississippi; three step-grandchildren, Aly Holmes, Haley and Madison Satcher; and her beloved dog, Fred. She is preceded in death by her father, Raymond Dempsey.

Mr. Kyle Clark Ray, 23, passed away on Friday, October 28, 2011, in Louisville, Mississippi. He is also survived by his grandmother, “Momma Grandmother” Sandra Clark; his father, Kenneth Eaves; his mother, Angela Clark Rivera and husband, Gerald; his grandfather, Anthony Clark; and his great-grandmothers, Katherine Hemphill and Hixie Clark all of Louisville, Mississippi. He is also survived by four sisters: Mallie Jane Rivera and Linda Carter and husband, Kevin, also of Louisville, Mississippi; Brandy Stone of Olympia, Washington; and Sasha Triplett and husband, Tim, of Gulfport, Mississippi. He also has three brothers: Roland Ray and wife, Bonnie, of Hamilton, Alabama; Aaron Rivera of Louisville, Mississippi; and Josh Rivera of Gulfport, Mississippi, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He is preceded in death by his grandmother, Maurice Eaves; his brother, Michael Eaves; and his nephew, Jacob Ralph Ray.

Mrs. Johnson is survived by five daughters: Jo Lane Johnson of Louisville, Mississippi; Peggy Reed of Starkville, Mississippi; Sue Fulton and husband, Gary, of Louisville, Mississippi; Ginny Jessup and husband, Jim of Aberdeen, Mississippi; and Jill Johnson of Columbus, Mississippi. She is also survived by six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Howard L. Johnson and her son-in-law, Bert Reed.

Mr. Frankie Joe Cannon, 72, died Monday, October 24, 2011 at Anderson Hospital in Meridian, MS. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Thursday at Porter Funeral Home. Mr. Cannon was born September 18, 1939, in Louisville, MS. He was a graduate of Louisville High School, and Mississippi State University with a Business degree. He worked as a bookkeeper for Zero Butane in Inverness, MS, and for Ballard & Hudspeth Construction in Louisville. He was a cattle farmer, and owned and operated Northwood Grocery for over 35 years. He was a member of the Army National Guard. He was preceded in death by his parents, Maggie Roberts and Joe Metts Cannon; and a sister, Mary Ann Cannon Yarbrough.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Alewine Cannon of Louisville; three daughters, Kim Walker and Angela Lee, both of Hattiesburg, MS, and Jennifer (Alan) Higgason of Daleville, MS; a son, David (Lori) Mitchell of Louisville; five grandchildren, Justin Mitchell, Dawson Mitchell, Meg Higgason, Will Higgason, and Jake Higgason; uncle, Roy (Sarah) Roberts, aunt, Mary June Roberts; niece and nephews, Amy (Rob) Landry, Dr. Steven (Paige) Yarbrough, and Danny (Angela) Yarbrough; and a special helper, Mrs. Anita Coleman.

Merry Palmer Rainey

Mrs. Merry Palmer Rainey, age 73, of McDonough, Georgia, passed away on Friday, October 21, 2011. She was born in Louisville, Mississippi, to the late James T. and Coley Ree Miles Palmer. Merry was a parishioner of St. James the Apostle Catholic Church and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, her dog, Sugar and sewing.

Mrs. Rainey is survived by her children, Linda McMath and husband, Rodney, of Powder Springs, Georgia; Rita Perdichizzi and husband, Ettore, of Fayetteville, Georgia; Kelly Mansulich and husband, Keith, of Fayetteville, Georgia; Patti Jacobson of Mansfield, Georgia; and James Rainey and wife, Mary, of Auburn, Alabama. She was also survived by 12 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; and four brothers, James Palmer of Detroit, Michigan; Rupert Palmer of College Station, Texas; Pettus Palmer of Jackson, Mississippi; and Haron Palmer of Stockbridge, Georgia; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Lyman Rainey and by siblings, Frances Humphries and Joel F. Palmer.
