Annie C. Cockrell

Mrs. Annie Catherine Crick Cockrell, 82, died Monday, September 30, 2013, at University Medical Center in Jackson, MS. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Thursday, October 3rd, at Porter Funeral Home, with Rev. Mason Joy officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 1:00 PM until service time at Porter Funeral Home.

Mrs. Cockrell was born March 29, 1931, in Reform, MS. She was a retired respiratory therapist at Winston Medical Center, and was a member of East Louisville Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Cockrell; her parents, Rowena and E. Z. Crick; a sister, Jacqueline Atkinson; and a brother, Gid Crick.

She is survived by two daughters, Melisa (Roy Dale) Fulton of Louisville, and Melanie (Cecil) Price of Louisville; three sons, Wayne (Annette) Cockrell of Hastings, Nebraska, Joe (Daphne) Cockrell of Louisville, and Wendell (Mary Lena) Cockrell of Perry, GA; 14 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren.

Mary Young Bane

Mrs. Mary Y. Bane, 90, died Saturday, September 28, 2013 in her home of natural causes. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 2, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Porter Funeral Home with Brother Billy Bowie officiating. Visitation will be from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Porter Funeral home. After the service, the internment will be at Memorial Park where a private ceremony will be held for family.

 Mrs. Bane was born on August 9, 1923 in Philadelphia, MS to Mary Elizabeth Fulton and James Monroe Young. She was a homemaker and also worked in retail management when she lived in Biloxi, MS. She was a Sunday school teacher and active member of Bay Vista Baptist Church in Biloxi, MS. She belonged to the Lions Club in Louisville, MS, and loved gardening. She was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Louisville.

 She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles M. Christian of Biloxi and Louisville, MS; her second husband, Lamar Bane of Louisville, MS; her son, James Christian of Biloxi, MS; her brothers, James Young of Tupelo, MS, Fulton Young of Greenwood, Ms, and Simon T. Young of Louisville, MS; her sister, Maureen Morgan of Louisville, MS. Judy Gazaway

Mrs. Judy Gazaway, 58, died Friday, September 27, 2013 at Neshoba County General Hospital. Visitation will be on Saturday, Sept 28th from 5-8 pm at McClain-Hays Funeral Home in Philadelphia. The funeral service will be on Sunday, Sept 29th at 2pm at the funeral home chapel with Rev. Mike Skinner and Rev. Jack Foster officiating. Interment will follow at Good Hope Cemetery.

She was a native and lifelong resident of Neshoba County. She had formerly worked as office manager in medical equipment sales. Mrs. Gazaway was a member of Good Hope Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Billy Gazaway; daughter, Mandy Barfoot Guess and her husband, Brian; son, Marc Barfoot and his wife, Mitsy, all of Philadelphia and 12 grandchildren.
Mrs. Gazaway was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Ruby May and an infant twin brother, Jamie.

Susie Elizabeth Wilson Skelton

Susie Elizabeth Wilson Skelton, 92, died Sept. 23, 2013 in the Care Center of Louisville.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 26, at the Oliver Funeral Home Chapel in Eupora with burial to follow in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Webster County. Rev. Mike Childs will officiate.
While living in Webster County, Mrs. Skelton attended the Mantee Baptist Church. She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Skelton was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Curtis Skelton.
Survivors include one daughter; Sue Skelton Latham of Louisville; one son William C. Skelton of Louisville; one sister, Irene Wilson Ital, of Gloster; four grandchildren: Curt Skelton, Casey Skelton, Matt Skelton and Mandy Husak; and four great grandchildren.
Pallbearers are Curt Skelton, Casey Skelton, Matt Skelton, Charles Morgan, Calvin Redwine, and Russell Forrester.
Visitation will be Wednesday, Sept. 25, from 6 to 8 pm at the funeral home. Oliver Funeral Home of Eupora is in charge of all arrangements.

Milton Thomas

Mr. Milton Thomas, 54, of Noxapater, died Tuesday, September 24, 2013, at his home. Visitation will be Thursday, Sept 26th from 5 - 8 pm at Zion Chapel Pentecostal Church. The funeral service will be at 11 am on Friday, Sept 27th at the church with Rev. Dewayne Kelsey officiating. Interment will follow at Sunrise Cemetery in Noxapater.

He was a native of Morton and had been a resident of Winston County since 1987. He was a retired truck driver. Mr. Thomas was a member of Harmony Baptist Church in Winston County.

Survivors include his daughter, Sarah Mayo of Kosciusko; granddaughter, MaeLei Klaire Mayo of Kosciusko; companion/caregiver, Betty Lee; mother, Jessie Mae Thomas of Philadelphia; sister, Mary Ann Nutt of Kemper County; brother, Walter Jack Thomas of Noxapater; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Thomas was preceded in death by his daughter, Christie Mae Thomas; father, Welton Thomas; and brother, Curtis Thomas.

Mr. Robert Thomas “Bob” Rogers, 34, passed away on Friday, September 20, 2013, in Bay Springs, MS. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, September 22nd, at Porter Funeral Home, with Rev. Mr. Rogers was born August 31, 1979, in Louisville, MS, where he was well-known and loved by many. He was a member of Hight Assembly of God Church in Noxapater, MS. He graduated from Winston Academy in 1997. He worked at Taylor Machine Works and was the manager of Hemphill Furniture Company before moving to bay Springs, MS, where he worked at Hol-Mac Corporation as a purchasing logistical planner. He was preceded in death by his father, John Thomas Rogers; and his grandparents, Robert Melvin “Billy” Hemphill, and Berlin Thomas and Clara Eaves Rogers.

He is survived by his daughter, Madison Kaye Rogers, who was the light of his life; his mother, Cassandra Hemphill; his brothers, Brian Alan Rogers, Jonathan Bradley Rogers, and Austin David Foster; his grandmother, Margaret Hemphill Phillips, and a host of family and friends who loved him very much.

Elvis L. Graves

Elvis LGraves, lifetime resident of Ackerman, Miss, passed away on September 14, 2013, at the age of 94. He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Elizabeth Benson Graves. Mr. Graves is survived by four children: Martha Schiffman (Robert), Nell Bowman (Bill), Benny Graves (Deanie), Kay McBee (Andy), eight grandchildren and two great- grandchildren. Appreciation is expressed to devoted caregivers: Daisy Miller, Shirley Watts, and Comfort Keepers.

Mr. Graves was a graduate of Ackerman High School; Sunflower Junior College in Moorhead, Mississippi; and Mississippi State University with a degree in agronomy. Elviswas a veteran of World War II. He was in the Signal Corp and was a radio repairman for communication teams. His overseas service was in China and Burma.
Mr. Graves retired in 1982 as a feed microscopist from the State Chemical Lab at Mississippi State University. He had previously worked as a seed analyst for the State Seed Testing Lab.
He was an active member of Ackerman Baptist Church for 82 years, serving as a deacon and in many other capacities.
A celebration of life service will be held Tuesday, September 17, at 11 am at Ackerman Baptist Church. Memorials may be sent to the building fund at Ackerman Baptist Church, PO Box 277, Ackerman, MS 39735.

Mrs. Nellie Earlene Howard, 79, died Saturday, September 14, 2013, At OCH Regional Medical Center in Starkville, MS. Mrs. Howard was born February 17, 1934. She was a retired supervisor for Spartus Corporation, and a member of Zion Chapel Pentecostal Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Algie Howard; her parents, Emma Jones and James Robert Quinn; one son, Walter Dale Howard; and three brothers, Will R. Quinn, Robert C. Quinn, and James R. Quinn.

She is survived by two sons, Paul Howard and Wayde (Jeannie) Howard, both of Louisville, MS; seven sisters, Louise Hamilton of Noxapater, MS, Ora Lee Dickerson of Noxapater, MS, Minnie McKee of Alsip, IL, Bessie Carnes of Monee, IL, Ida Mae Rigby of Louisville, MS, Lila Kitchens of Louisville, MS, and Betty Jackson of Russellville, AL; 5 grandchildren; and 6 great grandchildren.

Mr. Pickett was born March 25, 1914, in Noxapater, MS. He was retired from farming and construction, and was an Air Force veteran of World War II. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ava Pearl Pickett; and a son, Jimmy Dale Pickett.

He is survived by a son, Eddie (Kathy) Pickett of Madison, MS; a daughter, Barbara Jo Pickett of Ft.
