Joyce W. Barnett

Joyce W. Barnett, age 84, was born on February 24, 1938. in Noxapater, MS. She passed away on June 27, 2022, at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center, Jackson, MS. Joyce was a resident of Northbay Subdivison, Madison, at the time of her passing.

Joyce graduated from Noxapater High School as valedictorian of her class. She was employed by BellSouth Telephone Company where she retired after 35 years. Retirement did not slow her down. She was a long time member of Parkway Baptist Church in Clinton, MS. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers and also Northbay Garden Club. She volunteered her time at River Oaks Hospital. She also enjoyed being a poll worker.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Pauline Woodruff and her husband of many years, Pat Barnett. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Paula Prisock; her brother, Harry Woodruff and brother, Pat Woodruff. Left to cherish her memory are her son Kevin (Michelle), her grandson, Evan (Sarah), grandsons, Jace and Gabe, granddaughters Peyton Poole (Tanner) and Mary Reagan, one great grandchild, and her sister, Jan Sloan.

A memorial service is being held on Thursday, June 30, 2022, at Parkway Funeral Home, 1161 Highland Colony Parkway, Ridgeland, MS. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. with the service at 2:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Baptist Children’s Village, 114 Marketridge Drive, Ridgeland, MS, 39157.

Osco Dotson, 95, of Louisville, MS., passed on Sunday, June 26, 2022, at the Winston County Medical Center, Louisville, MS. Linda B. Shaw

Linda Blake Shaw, age 79, passed away on June 28, 2022, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo, MS. Linda was born in Ackerman, MS, on September 6, 1942, to Arnold G. Blake and Lillie Ethelyne(Harris) Blake.

Linda worked and retired from Spartus Clock Factory in Louisville, MS. In her spare time she enjoyed quilting, visiting with community, and spending time with her grandkids and great-grandkids. She was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church.

Linda is survived by her son, Michael Wayne Shaw of Ackerman, MS, and her daughter, Kathy Dawn(Michael) Brown of Mathiston, MS. She is also survived by 2 grandsons, Austin(Carmen) Dempsey of Ackerman, MS, and Cody(Morgan) Dempsey of Maben, MS; 3 great-granddaughters, Emma Blake Dempsey, Deklee Claire Quinn, Demi Lee Dempsey; and 2 great-granddaughters, Daisie Jo Dempsey and Denton Elise Dempsey, expected later in the year. She is also survived by 1 brother, Edwin(Kay) Blake of Ackerman, MS.

Linda was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Lee Shaw, her parents, and 3 brothers, James, David, and Jerry Blake.

Services will be held on Tuesday, July 5, 2022, 2:00 p.m. at Coleman Funeral Home, with burial to follow at Bethlehem Cemetery near Ackerman, MS. Visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m.-2:00 p.m. prior to service time. Pallbearers will be John Blake, Tommy Blake, Justin Blake, Tony Dempsey, Vic Latham, and Jimmy Brown. Serving as honorary pallbearer will be Dan Blake.

Paula Louise Blanton

Paula Louise Blanton, 65, passed away on Sunday, June 19, 2022, at Greenbough Health and Rehabilitation Center in Clarksdale, Mississippi. A family memorial service will be held at a later date.

Paula was born June 6, 1957, to Paul and Louise White Blanton in Winston County, Mississippi. She was a 1975 graduate of Louisville High School. Paula earned a degree in cosmetology and worked as a beautician. Later, she earned a degree in nursing. Paula was a very talented person; she enjoyed playing the guitar and piano as well as singing. She also was a talented artist—she loved to draw and paint pictures.

Paula is survived by her sister-in-law Pat Blanton of Louisville. She also leaves behind two nephews Kevin (Rhonda) King, and Lance (Crystal) Blanton all of Louisville, Mississippi, and a niece LeAnne (Robert) Cheatham of Newnan, Georgia. She is preceded in death by her son Steven Clark, her parents, her sister Bobbie Nell (Mack Paul) King, and her brother Gene Blanton.

Millard Dwayne Vowell

A memorial service for Millard Dwayne Vowell is Tuesday, June 21, 2022 at 5:00 p.m. at Brummitt McKenzie Funeral Home. The family will receive friends on Tuesday 3:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Military honors will be at a later date at the TN State Veteran Cemetery at Parkers Crossroads.

Mr. Vowell, 74 years old, died Thursday June 16, 2022 at Baptist Memorial Hospital. He was an operation supervisor for Heilig – Meyers Furniture Store for 24 years, a LPN for several area nursing homes and an electrician. He was a member of Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, a Green Beret for the US ARMY a Purple Heart recipient and a 3 time Bronze Star recipient. He was born in Louisville, MS on December 9, 1947 to Millard and Beatrice Green Vowell.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Betty Johnson of McKenzie, three daughters Kristina (Troy) Buttery of Paris, Shaunda Page of Huntingdon and Denise ( Lamar) Creekmore of Mississippi, two sons Michael (Barbara) Vowell of Paris and Blanton Vowell of Oregon, five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by twelve siblings and survived by one brother Travis Vowell.

In Lieu of flowers that family has asked that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society.

She lived in the Coy Community most of her life. She was a secretary and enjoyed singing. She was a member of Cornerstone Church of God.

Michele Pauline Miller

Services for Ms. Michele Pauline Miller will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, June 18, 2022 at McClain-Hays Chapel. Interment will be in the Tucker Cemetery. Rev. David Richardson will officiate.

Ms. Michele Pauline Miller, 70, died on Wednesday, June 15, 2022.

Ms. Michele was a native of Eau Claire, Wisconsin. She was a former resident of Louisville, Ackerman and Columbus. She was a retired women’s counselor and had worked with Christian Women’s Job Corps in Louisville and Ackerman. She was Christian by faith.

Her survivors include daughters, Jessica (Timothy) Bradford of Florence, Pegan (Christopher) Carter of Columbus; son, Adam (Nicole) Kruschke of Hastings, MN; three grandchildren, Grace Anne Bradford, Samuel Bradford and Hannah Carter; sister, Janice Kurschner of Phoenix, AZ; brother, Rusty (Nicole) Olson Eau Claire, WI. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews and their families.

Preceded in death by her parents, Rex and Pat Olson; sister, Joyce Oatman.

Cathy B. Sullivan

Cathy Barnhill Sullivan, age 66, passed away on June 15, 2022, at Louisville Healthcare in Louisville, Mississippi, with her loving family by her side. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, June 18 at Good Hope Baptist Church with Bro. Jason Gross officiating. Visitation will be the day of the service at the church from 9:00 a.m. until service time. Interment will immediately follow the service in Good Hope Cemetery.

Cathy was born October 6, 1955, to Thadis and Joyce Stockton Barnhill in Illinois. She was an excellent cook and served the community while working at Brandy’s, which later became Kathy’s Chicken Basket. Cathy also enjoyed crocheting.

Cathy is survived by her husband of 49 years Tim Sullivan of Noxapater, Mississippi. She also leaves behind her children Dustin Sullivan of Louisville and Brad Sullivan and wife Kristin of Philadelphia, Mississippi. One of her greatest joys was being “Nanny” to her seven grandchildren: Aaron Sullivan, Mikayla Watkins, Steven Sullivan, Christopher Sullivan, Terry Lynn Sullivan, Dylan Sullivan, and Hannah Sullivan. She is also survived by her sister Donna Morris. Cathy is preceded in death by her parents, her sister Rhonda Fish, and brother Steven Barnhill.

Dennis Wayne Burney passed away on Monday, June 13, 2022, at his residence in Weir, MS. Dennis was born September 9, 1961, in Kilmichael, MS, to James Dexter "Pete" and Mary Jane(Cook) Burney. He was 60 years old. Dennis retired from Oktibbeha County Hospital where he was employed for many years as a radiology tech. He was a member of Adaton Baptist Church.
Visitation will be held on Friday, June 24, 2022, 4:00-7:00 p.m., at Coleman Funeral Home with a private family interment at a later date.

Joe Ann Butters

Joe Ann Butters, age 72, passed away on June 9, 2022, at Huntsville Hospital in Huntsville, Alabama. Funeral services will be 4:00 p.m. Sunday, June 12 in the Nowell-Massey Funeral Home Chapel in Louisville with Rev. Roger Griffith and Rev. John Sweeney officiating. Joe Ann was born November 9, 1949, to Joe C. and Lawrence Richardson Keene in Winston County. She was a member of Plainview Church of God in Rainsville, Alabama. Joe Ann had a calm, caring, and loving nature. She was a homemaker who also enjoyed caring for the elderly and babysitting young children; she also worked in the nursery at every church she ever attended. Joe Ann also enjoyed gardening, working in her yard and her flowers but most of all, she loved and was very involved with her family. She was a surrogate “Mom” to many who knew and loved her through the years.

Joe Ann is survived by her husband of 55 years Allen Butters of Rainsville, Alabama. She also leaves behind her children: Linda Kay (Kenya) Duckworth of West Point, Mississippi; Kathy Lynn Ward of Nashville, Tennessee; Karen Jean Jones of Columbus, Mississippi; James Allen (Emily) Butters of Knoxville, Tennessee; and Rubye Joy (Dennis) Dodson of Rainsville, Alabama. One of her greatest joys was being “Grandma” to her eight grandchildren: Kaylin Duckworth, Kristopher Duckworth, and Kelsey Duckworth, William David Byrge, Woody Byrge, Mikel Byrge, Ruby Anna Dodson, Patrick Allen Dodson; and one great-grandchild Sincere Duckworth. She is also survived by her sister Rubye (Wayne) Clark. Joe Ann is preceded in death by her parents; two brothers G.W. and Wesley Keene; and a nephew Kevin Clark.

Mr. Vowell, 54, passed away Wednesday, June 8, 2022, at his home in Winston Co. where he lived most of his life. He was a member of Hight Assembly of God Church. He was a truck driver and he loved spending time with his family.

He is preceded in death by his parents Sarah and Junior Vowell.

Bonnie Watkins Reed

Bonnie Watkins Reed, age 72, passed away on June 8, 2022, at Louisville Healthcare in Louisville, Mississippi. Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Friday, June 10 in the Nowell-Massey Funeral Home Chapel in Louisville with Victoria Waggoner officiating.

Bonnie was born April 19, 1950, to Edgar and Mary Collins Watkins in Winston County. She lived in the Plattsburg/Mars Hill Community for more than 50 years. Bonnie enjoyed all types of needlework including quilting, crocheting, and knitting. She was an excellent seamstress and she worked for both TRW and Angelica factories. Bonnie also enjoyed cooking and loved spoiling her grandchildren.

Bonnie is survived by her husband Billy Joe Reed of Noxapater, Mississippi. She also leaves behind her children: Victoria (Neil) Waggoner of Columbus, Mississippi; Arthur Leroy Potter, III of Artesia, Mississippi; Betsy Reed of Noxapater; and her step-son Darel Reed of Louisville. One of her greatest joys was being “Granny” to her five grandchildren: Aiden Reed, Lex Waggoner, Mary Beth Waggoner, Whitney Waggoner, and Shiera Hudson. She is survived by two brothers Lamar and Richard Watkins. Bonnie is preceded in death by her parents and her sister Marjorie Thrasher.

Dorothy Jayn Hathorn Duncan

Dorothy Jayn Hathorn Duncan passed away on Thursday June 2, 2022 surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle with cancer. Jayn was born on June 27, 1963 in Louisville, MS to the late Dorothy Sinclair Mitchell and James M “Jimmy” Hathorn, Sr.

Jayn graduated from Winston Academy in Louisville, MS and East Central Community College in Decatur, MS. She also attended Mississippi State University where she studied floral design. Jayn worked for over 30 years at Flowers by Shirley creating beautiful floral arrangements, helping brides plan weddings, designing casket pieces, and decorating homes and churches in West Point and the surrounding areas. Jayn did all this work with such a caring and sweet spirit. Her infectious laugh was a joy to hear. After Flowers by Shirley closed, Jayn worked for Renasant Bank as a teller and loved her new adventure and co-workers and the customers.

In 1994, she married Maurice Duncan and they had one daughter, Kayla who last November married Casey Sexton. This wedding was Jayn’s last one to plan and decorate. It was a beautiful and special time.

Jayn was a member of West End Baptist Church in West Point. She had a great love for the Lord and her family and enjoyed spending time with them. She always picked the perfect card to send on every occasion. Her family called her Nan or ‘Nanny Goat”-a name given to her by her granddaddy Hathorn because as a little girl she ate paper.

Jayn is survived by her husband, Maurice Duncan; her daughter, Kayla Sexton (Casey); her sister, Susan Hathorn (Doug Crutchfield); her step mother, Dee Hathorn; step father, Jack Mitchell; her step brother, David Mitchell (Dee); step sister, Jennifer Higgason (Alan); several aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, James M. ‘Jimbo” Hathorn, Jr.; her maternal grandparents, Verna and Alex Sinclair; and her paternal grandparents, Dollie and J. Hoy Hathorn.
Graveside services will be 11:30 AM Saturday June 4, 2022 at West Point Memorial Gardens Cemetery with Rev. Mike Childs and Rev. Brad Latham officiating. Visitation will be 10-11 AM Saturday at Robinson Funeral Home in West Point, MS. Serving as pallbearers will be Lucas Nowell, Will Quinn, Roger Duncan, Gary Duncan, Dr. Stephen Hunter, Robert Miller. Darrell Wayne Haggard

Darrell Wayne Haggard, 61, passed away at the University of Mississippi Medical Center following a sudden illness on June 2, 2022. Wayne was born on June 3, 1960, in Macon, Mississippi, to parents Darrell Latimer and Mae Meeks Haggard and to older sibling Patsy. In 1963, his younger brother John Thomas was born. Wayne was a resident of Macon, MS, for the first twelve years of his life where he attended First Baptist Church; his family moved to their permanent home in the Ellison Ridge Community in 1972 where he became a member of Ellison Ridge Baptist Church. Wayne was a 1978 Louisville High School graduate. Following graduation, he joined the U.S. Army and served his country for six years.

He is survived by his mother, Mae Haggard of Louisville, MS; sister and brother-in-law, Patricia Haggard Foley and David Foley of Madison, MS; nephew, Matthew Connor Foley of Madison, MS; and many friends and extended family members throughout the South.

Wayne was preceded in death by his father Darrell Latimer Haggard and brother John Thomas Haggard.

Wayne was known for his sense of humor and outspoken political views, as well as for his dependability and loyalty to friends and family. For instance, Wayne made time to visit friends who were ill or residing in area nursing homes. There were no strangers in Wayne’s world; there were only friends he had not yet met. He struck up conversations with people everywhere he went. Wayne loved going to the theater to watch the latest movies and held an extensive personal movie library that he would loan to fortunate friends and family, and he never forgot who needed to return his movies. No one had a softer heart regarding animals than Wayne; he exhibited an unusual knack for domesticating feral cats. With no children of his own, he immensely enjoyed his role as one of the “bachelor uncles” to his nephew Connor.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, June 5th, at 2:00 P.M. at Porter Funeral Home, with Rev. Billy Higginbotham officiating. Visitation will be held Saturday, June 4th, from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Sardis Cemetery.

Marsha E. Baumgartner

Marsha E. Baumgartner, age 71, of Barnett, passed away Saturday, May 28, 2022, at her home, surrounded by her loving family. She was born November 29, 1950, in Louisville, Mississippi, daughter of the late Bill and Margaret (Johnson) Terry.

On July 17, 1976, in Louisville, Mississippi, she was united in marriage to her surviving husband, David Baumgartner.

Marsha worked as a registered nurse for many years. She and her loving husband, Dave, shared a passion for travel. In addition to enjoying adventures traveling the world, she held special interests in Thoroughbreds of the Nation, Cornell Ornithology and the Morgan County Library.
Marsha had a tremendous passion for horses and racing. In 2015, she garnered national attention as she submitted the chosen name for the horse, American Pharoah, that ultimately swept all three races that year to win the Triple Crown.

With interests as diverse as her talents, Marsha enjoyed spending time scrapbooking, honing her photography skills, scuba diving, horse racing and reading.
In addition to her husband, Dave, she is survived by her brother, Jeff Terry and wife, Beverly of Noxapater, Mississippi and many friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Ron Terry.

A celebration of Marsha's life will be held from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m., Saturday, June 11th, at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Bank of Versailles, Marsha Baumgartner Scholarship Fund or to Old Friends, 1841 Paynes Depot Road, Georgetown, Kentucky 40324, an organization for retired race horses.

Mr. William Alton “Billy” Herrington, 87, passed away on Wednesday, June 1, 2022, at Transcendent Healthcare of Boonville in Boonville, IN. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P. M. on Monday, June 6th, at Porter Funeral Home, with Rev. Heath Hillman officiating. Visitation will be Monday from 12:00 noon until service time. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Porter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Herrington was born October 6, 1934, in Louisville, MS. He was a graduate of Louisville High School, East Central Community College, and received his BS degree in Industrial Management from Mississippi State University. He worked for the Boeing Corp. and the MS State Highway Department. He was a member of Grace Memorial Baptist Church of Gulfport, MS.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Mable Herrington; his parents, James Henry and Lora G. Herrington; a son-in-law, Thomas J. Hart; a granddaughter, Angela E. Hart; and six brothers, Charles Herrington, Jim Herrington, Max Herrington, Rufus Herrington, Gerald Herrington, and Connice Herrington.

He is survived by two sons, William Scott (Shannon) Herrington and Steven Mack (Susan Tate) Ferguson; a daughter, Elizabeth Elaine Hart; a brother, Chester Herrington; two grandchildren, Nola Victoria Herrington and Pamela L. Pique; and a great grandchild, Chase J. Pique.

Teangelo Lashun Woods, 43, of Georgia, formerly of Louisville, MS., passed on Sunday, May 29, 2022, in Louisville, MS. Funeral Service will be Saturday, June 4, 2022, at 11 a.m., from Saint James Presbyterian Church, Louisville, MS. Visitation will be Friday, from 4 until 6 p.m., from the Funeral Home. Mr. Woods, will be reposed in the Church on Saturday, one hour prior to service time. Burial will be in the Church Cemetery. Beck Funeral Home of Louisville in charge of arrangements.
