Born on January 23, 1935, she was the third daughter of Garland and Florence Emma Metts. She joins two sisters, Joyce Sullivan and Melba Pearson, and a brother William Metts in heaven. Mitzie loved to tell the story of the snowy wintery night she was born. She was brought up during a simpler time with focus on family and church. She accepted Jesus as her Savior at an early age.
She met her true love Bill Taylor while working as a secretary at Taylor Machine Works. She fondly remembered the story of Mr. Alec Taylor hand picking her for his son. God blessed their fifty-three-year union with three children: Lex Taylor and wife Margaret, Teresa Taylor Ktsanes and husband Jim, and Robert Taylor and wife Amanda. Mitzie was blessed with seven grandchildren: Alexis Grace Taylor, Davis Taylor and wife Rachel, Zach Taylor, Bailey Taylor, Grayson Taylor, Alex Taylor, and Matthew Ktsanes. She was also Mimi to two great grandsons: RD and Calvin Taylor. Her great granddaughter, Cecilia, is with her in heaven. In addition, she has four step grandchildren: Kristin Ktsanes Lundquist and husband Ted, Jimmy Ktsanes and wife Rachel, Zach Ktsanes and wife Kathleen, Marc Ktsanes and wife Jasset as well as nine step great-grandchildren: Sophia Ktsanes, Charlie Ktsanes, Audrey Ktsanes, Nathan Ktsanes, James Lundquist, Allie Ktsanes, Andrew Lundquist, Alexander Ktsanes and Vivienne Ktsanes.
For over eight decades Mitzie lived in Louisville and was an active part of the community. Her greatest love was her Lord and church. Growing up she was a member of Evergreen Baptist Church. But for 68 years she has been an active member of First Baptist Church singing in the choir, teaching college age young adults, and her treasured ladies’ class. Our family is forever grateful to have shared in Mimi telling the Christmas story through the eyes of the Inn Keeper. Mimi was a teacher in both words and actions.
She served on the board of Taylor Machine Works for years until her death. For over six decades she was actively involved in growing the family business into an international company. Her love for the Big Red Team is a legacy that continues.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Porter Funeral Home with visitation on Wednesday, September 28th, at The First Baptist Church, Louisville, MS at 9:30-11:30 with a service to follow. She will be interred at Louisville Memorial Cemetery immediately following the service.
