Mr. Commer, 91, of Neshoba County, died at his home on Friday, August 28, 2020.
He was a native and lifelong resident of Neshoba County and farmed the early part of his life. He worked at Wells Lamont for a few years, then Sheller Globe School Bus Manufacturer until 1973, then he started his own business “ Triple Commer Logging” where he was contracted out for Weyerhaeuser for 30 years and was currently contracted for B & G Wood Products. Between his logging business, cattle farming and his gardening, where he was well known for sharing his vegetables with his friends, neighbors and family, especially his running okra, made him never want to retire.
Mr. Commer had a love for music early in life and taught many singing schools throughout his life. He was in a quartet with his wife and two close friends for many years and sang at many funerals. He served on the boards at East Mississippi Livestock Association, Neshoba Gin Association, The Cattlemans Association , Mars Hill Cemetery Committee and was a member of The Mississippi Loggers Association.
Mr. Commer was one of a kind. He and his wife Dorothy raised four children whom he dearly loved and taught them strong family beliefs, morals and integrity. He loved his family very much and would do anything to try and help whoever needed him. Mr. Commer was a member of Mars Hill Pentecostal Church where he served as superintendent, Sunday school teacher and song leader. He loved his church and church family.
Survived by his wife of 72 years, Dorothy Commer; children, Donnie (Faron) Commer, Terry (Tammie) Commer, Betty (Jimmy) Kirkland and Pam Manning; grandsons, Jeffrey (Morgan) Kirkland, Josh and Trevor Commer, Randy Carl Arledge, Nathan (Lacey) Commer and Donald Joe (Vanessa) Nowell; grand daughters, Emily Commer (Stuart) Ingram, Dianne Commer (Bryan) Madison and Flame(Mark) Coker; Great-grandsons, Colton Ingram, Trenton and Jacob Kirkland, Jay Dee Madison, Jasper, Jake and Colt Commer, Christian Soriano and Gable Coker; great-granddaughters, Makaela and Abba Ingram, Callie Commer, Bindi and Vivien Coker, Allie Grace and Ivey Kate Commer, Minnie and Lyra Nowell; great-Great-grandson, James Avery Hoskins.
Mr. Commer was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Minnie Lee Burkes Commer; brother, Burlon Commer; sister, Eloise Commer Adcock; son-in-laws, Donald Nowell and Wendell Manning.
Pallbearers are Jeffrey Kirkland, Donald Joe Nowell, Trevor , Nathan, and Josh Commer, Randy Carl Arledge.
