Travis was born November 19, 1929, to Beamon and Viola Collier Whitten. He was a long-time member of Gum Branch Baptist Church but most recently attended South Louisville Baptist Church. He retired from Louisville Brick Yard as a heavy equipment operator. During the Korean Conflict, he answered the call of his country by serving in the United States Army. He loved hunting and fishing and very much enjoyed the time he spent with his “coffee drinking buddies” each morning and afternoon at Hardee’s.
Mr. Whitten is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Kate Harrison Whitten of Louisville; and two daughters, Beth Postoak and husband, Ken, of Philadelphia, Mississippi; and Lisa Smith and husband, Tim, also of Louisville; and his sister-in-law, Peggy Whitten of Derma, Mississippi. One of his greatest joys was being “Papaw” to his three grandchildren: Ryan Catledge, Brittany Boyette and husband, Ryan; and Jacob Postoak; and “PeePaw” to two great-grandchildren, Kason Babb and Kaelyn Boyette. He was preceded in death by his parents; and three siblings, Mildred Eubanks, James Whitten, and Troy Whitten.
Serving as pallbearers are Eddie Harrison, Vernice Harrison, Ken Postoak, Ricky Reynolds, Tim Smith, and Burr Warner. Honorary pallbearers are his “coffee drinking buddies” at Hardee’s. Memorial contributions in honor of Mr. Whitten may be given to Gum Branch Baptist Church, c/o Rev. Jim Mills, 2960 Vickers Drive, Sturgis, MS 39769.
