Funeral services for Mr. Clarence Woods, 88, will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, October 2nd, at South Louisville Baptist Church, with Rev Trent Jaudon, Rev. Rob Faulk, and Dr. Andre Dobson officiating. Visitation will begin at 12:00 noon on Friday at the church. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Willis 'Clarence' Woods was born February 23, 1927. He was saved at the age of seventeen and was baptized in a pond in Attala County. Upon graduation of Lobutcher High School he enlisted in the United States Navy. He served on the USS Long Island in the South Pacific during World War II. He was discharged as an Honorable World War II Veteran in 1946. He married Mavis Helen Jennings in 1948. Clarence and Mavis were members of Doty Springs Baptist Church where Clarence was Ordained as a Deacon. In 1955 Clarence and Mavis joined South Louisville Baptist where he continued serving as a Deacon. Upon returning from World War II he pursued his dream of farming with an entrepreneurial spirit which lead him into opening Woods Grocery. He and his wife owned, operated, and served the community in this business for decades. Clarence Woods remained steadfast in his beliefs and faith in God all his life. He went on in life to love his heavenly Father, serve his family, his church, and his community. At his home church he served and stepped into every roll that was needed and necessary since 1955. These rolls include; Deacon, Deacon Emeritus, Church Treasure, Chairman of Building and Grounds, Finance Committee, Sunday School Director, and Training Union Director. Every life journey he took on with faith, love, and patience.
