Stewart Glen Beard, Sr. , was born on October 11, 1956 to the late Joe Stewart and Eselle Horn Beard.
Glen received his education in Edinburg, MS in the Leake County School District. On July 15, 1976, he joined the Army National Guard and served as a non-commissioned officer for six years.
While studying at East Central Community College, Glen met the love of his life, and on January 4, 1978, he was united in Holy Matrimony to Dorothy Elizabeth (Libby) Beard. Their union was blessed with two sons:
Stewart Glen Beard, Jr. and Jonathan Stephen Beard.
He received his Associate Degree at East Central Community College and furthered his education at Mississippi State University where he received his Bachelor's Degree in Education and Master's Degree in Educational Leadership. His academic accomplishments reflect his dedication to personal growth and his relentless pursuit of excellence.
Glen's professional career began at the Weir Attendance Center in 1980. He fulfilled many roles during his journey at Weir ranging from maintenance, teacher, track, baseball, basketball and football coach, to Assistant Principal and Principal. His desire to positively impact the lives of young people was evident in every aspect of his personal and professional life. He was also ready and willing to serve his community and held the position of Alderman for the town of Weir. He was currently serving his third term as Mayor at the time of his passing.
Faith was a cornerstone of Glen's life and guided all of his endeavors. He was licensed to preach the Gospel on July 22, 1978 by Pastor G.C. Carlisle of Salem Baptist Church and especially enjoyed the opportunity to teach and disciple as called upon. Later in life, he continued to serve faithfully in whatever capacity needed as a member of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church until his health began to decline.
Glen departed this life in the comfort of his home on Thursday, November 14, 2024 after prolonged illness.
He leaves a legacy of love for family, service to community, and devotion to God. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all who knew him.
Glen was preceded in death by his father Joe Stewart Beard, sister Cynthia Jo Evans, and brother-in-law Danny Allen.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife Dorothy Elizabeth (Libby) Beard, his sons, Stewart Glen Beard, Jr. (Karla) and Jonathan Stephen Beard (Courtney); three grandsons, Stewart Glen Beard, III (Trace), Luke Thomas Beard and Jon Oliver Beard; four granddaughters, Elizabeth Kate Beard, Emorey Kamille Beard, Julie Suzanne Beard and Jordan Sage Beard; his mother Estelle Horn Beard, sister Gloria Allen, brother Joe Stewart Beard, Jr. (Sonya), and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends all of whom will cherish his memory.
