Hazel Louise Hawkins, 85, passed away on Thursday, December 3, 2020, at Winston Medical Center Nursing Home in Louisville, Mississippi. Graveside services and interment will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, December 5 at Crystal Ridge Cemetery with Rev. Jason Gross and Rev. Charles Rook officiating. All attendees are asked to please wear a mask and observe all COVID related precautions.
Louise was born March 16, 1935, to James Richard and Lena Mae Allige Harris in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. She was a faithful member of Crystal Ridge Baptist Church. Louise was a sweet Christian lady who dearly loved her family and church family. She was a very talented lady who enjoyed working in her flowers and quilting. Louise made many decorative quilted and tufted pillows to give to others.
Louise is survived by her son Mike Dewberry and wife Tammy of Louisville, and two daughters Marsha Strickland Reese and husband Dennis of Louisville, and Deborah Meatyard and husband Keith of Seminole, Alabama. One of her greatest joys was being “Grandma Lou” to her grandchildren: Michael (Summer) Dewberry, Chase (Kayla) Dewberry, Clifford Owens, Jennifer Gardner, Star Shepard, Wilber Shepard, and Angie Blessingame. She also leaves behind to mourn her passing seven great-grandchildren: Caysen and Stephen Dewberry, Sophia and Brayden Dewberry, and Heaven, Cheyenne, and Quincy Shepard. Louise is also survived by her five brothers: Richard Lucious Harris, Melvin Richard Harris, Carrol Harris, Jimmy Dale (Pamela) Harris, and Milton Harris; and three sisters: Lovie Nell (Jimmy) Carter, Doris (Billy) Clark, and Betty (Bobby) Beliew; as was well as a host of loving nieces and nephews. Louise was preceded in death by her husband Mike Hawkins, two sons Richard Hugh Brown and Virgil Elbert Dewberry, her brother Larry Harris, and her sister Faye Tenhet.
