Mr. Sanders Powell, 81, died Thursday, May 28, 2015, at his home in Louisville, MS. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Monday, June 1st, at Porter Funeral Home, with Rev. Fred Frazier and Rev. Rob Faulk officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, May 31st, from 2:00 P.M. until 4:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Porter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Powell was born October 15, 1933, in Vicksburg, MS. He grew up in Yazoo City, and was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War. Sanders also played for the Hinds Junior College football team that won the Junior College Rose Bowl. He moved to Louisville in 1972, where he owned a lawn service company, and was a member of First Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Joan McCully Powell; his daughter, Tabby (Brad) Stewart; grandchildren, Joanna Stewart, Abbie Stewart, and Wade Stewart, all of Louisville; and one brother, Dallas (Donna) Powell, Jr. of Yazoo City.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ada May Bond Powell and Dallas Powell, Sr.
