She was the first daughter and oldest child of Annie Mae and Clarence Harbor Goodin. She was a graduate of Central High School. After high school she attended East Central Community College and then Mississippi State University where she received a BA, MA and Specialist Degrees in Education. Mrs. Roberts taught school in Winston, Hinds and Choctaw counties for 41 years. She retired from Ackerman Elementary in 1991 after 28 years.
Her life was spent in service of countless friends and family members, all of whom considered her their favorite person. She was a teller of stories, a sharer of wisdom and had a memory only of the good in others. Mrs. Roberts was a long time member of Poplar Flat Baptist Church in Louisville, Mississippi, where she taught and attended Sunday school regularly. She was a member of Pilot Club and WMU (a womens’ missionary). She was a lover of flowers, baking, coffee, shopping, books, all things pink, and singing but derived her greatest joy from her ability to make others happy. Mrs. Roberts was selfless and an example of the Christian ideal. She will be missed by all that knew her but never forgotten by those that loved her.
She was preceded in death by the love of her life and husband of 52 years, Billie Roberts; their son, Billie Don Roberts; her brother Clinton Goodin; her sister and brother-in-law, Joyce and Jimmy Bouchillon; and her dear nephew, Jim Bouchillon.
She is survived by her daughter, Dianne Hall and husband Dennis; grandson Dennis Michael Hall, Jr. and his wife Michelle; granddaughter Courtney Hall Walker, her husband Marshall; great-grandchildren Marshall Jr., Garrett, and Meredith Walker; step-grandchildren Brock and Levin Fuller; her Uncle Buster Moody, his wife Betty; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Mrs. Roberts enjoyed a loving relationship with her husband’s family, survived by Sam and Gladys Roberts, Olyn Roberts, and Grace Roberts. Mrs. Roberts’ family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to Willie and Sally Johnson for the care and companionship they gave Mrs. Roberts over the past few years; and to her special friend, Sue O’Bryant.
