Carol C. Mitchell

Mrs. Carol C. Mitchell, 82, passed away on Thursday, August 29, 2024 at her home in Louisville. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, September 3rd at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with Rev. Jofin George officiating. Music will be provided by Julie Cunningham and Vickie McKnight. Visitation will be Tuesday from 9:00 to 11:00 A.M. at Porter Funeral Home. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Carol was born June 14, 1942, to Robert L. and Ava Merle Boyles Cunningham. She graduated from Louisville High School and MSCW with a degree in Home Economics. Carol was employed by the Louisville school system as a teacher of 8th grade science. She was also employed by Lamar Life Insurance Company.

Carol was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She was a catechist for the young and was a member of the RCIA team. She also served on the diocesan Commission: Women in the Church and Society. She served on an advisory board to the bishop William Houck. She served as a lector and Eucharistic minister. She and her husband, John, were joined in the Sacrament of Matrimony at Sacred Heart in 1963. Carol enjoyed painting and playing bridge with her many friends.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters, Lynn & Donna Cunningham, a brother, Larry Cunningham, and by her daughter-in-law, Kelly Mitchell.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years, John Mitchell; her four sons, David (Carmen) Mitchell, Mark (Luann) Mitchell, Stephen (Amy) Mitchell, and Matthew (Jenna) Mitchell; twelve grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Austin Hill, Bryce Mitchell, Colby Mitchell, Cade Mitchell, Jack T. Mitchell, and Kristopher Fisher, all grandchildren of Carol.

The family would like to thank Shirley Jackson, Emma Beck, Mary Ann White, Sharon Casey, and Vernell Coleman for their faithful service to Carol and her family.
