Jimmy was born October 5, 1947, to Edgar and Opal Reed Gregory. He was a member of Harmony Baptist Church. Jimmy loved the outdoors; he enjoyed hunting and he especially enjoyed fishing. He was known for his famous chicken which he cooked for his family, church events, and other special occasions. Jimmy dearly loved his grandchildren and enjoyed following them in whatever sport was in season. He also enjoyed telling others of the documentary that was made of his life “Winston County Miracle Man” which was highlighted at the Oxford Film Festival and can still be viewed on YouTube.
Jimmy is survived by his children: Glenn (Leigh Ann) Gregory and Alisa (Josh) Hoening all of Louisville. One of his greatest joys was being “Granddaddy” to his grandchildren: Hayden Hoening, Camden Hoening, Kaylee Gregory, Caleb Gregory, and Bria Gregory. He is also survived by his siblings: Emily (Gene) Holton, Donnie (Pat) Gregory, and Patty Myers; as well as his nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends. Jimmy is preceded in death by his parents; and brother-in-law, Rick Myers.
Serving as pallbearers are Caleb Gregory, Hayden Hoening, Camden Hoening, Tim Cole, Glen Shurden, and JaWilliam Carter. Memorials in honor of Jimmy may be given to Harmony Cemetery Fund, c/o David Holder, 11755 Highway 397, Louisville, MS 39339.
