Elsie Estes Carter

Elsie Estes Carter, age 90, of Noxapater, Mississippi, passed away Thursday, December 19, 2019, at the Winston Medical Center Nursing Home in Louisville, Mississippi. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, December 21, at Noxapater Baptist Church in Noxapater, Mississippi, under the direction of Marc McCool. Visitation will be the day of the service from 10:30 a.m. until service time at the church. Interment will immediately follow the service in Mt. Carmel Cemetery.

Elsie was born October 4, 1929, to Littleton “Wert” Worthy and Lottie Craig Estes. She was a devout Christian and a member of Noxapater Baptist Church. Elsie was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a teacher for 38 years, 36 of those at Noxapater Attendance Center where she taught fourth grade for most of those 38 years. She spent her first two years of her career teaching in Moss Point, Mississippi. She touched numerous lives during her years of teaching providing her students with a Christian role model and a life example.

Elsie is survived by her daughter Donna Spiers and husband Graylon of Starkville, Mississippi. One of her greatest joys was being “Mutter” to her granddaughter Leslie Spiers also of Starkville. She also leaves behind to mourn her passing her sister Jean Woodruff; and her brother Jerry Estes and wife Ilene all of Louisville. Elsie is survived by four sisters-in-law: Patti Estes, Sylvia Estes, Faith Estes, and Jane Estes; as well as by numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband of 58 years J. C. Carter; her parents; her sister Maxine McCool; four brothers Dee Estes, Wayne Estes, Bob Estes, and M. O. Estes; and two brothers-in-law Dee McCool and Don Woodruff.

Serving as pallbearers will be Brett Estes, Hal Estes, Joey Estes, Patrick Estes, Marc McCool, Mike McCool, Robert McCool, and Donnie Woodruff. Honorary pallbearers are Brandon Bell, Logan Bell, Trent Boswell, Braden Estes, Brandon Estes, Charner Estes, Cody Estes, Jared Estes, Corey Coward, Brad Hill, Jason Hill, Peyton McCool, Tyler McCool, and Trey Woodruff. Memorials may be given to Mt. Carmel Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 251, Noxapater, MS 39346.

The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to those who have so lovingly cared for Elsie including the staff of Atwood Assisted Living, Kindred Hospice, Winston Medical Center Nursing Home Staff, and Dr. Michael Ard. Your loving care helped us navigate through a difficult time.
