Mr. Gary Dexter Barnett, 71, passed away Monday, August 13, 2018, at the Neshoba County Nursing Home in Philadelphia, MS. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday, August 15th, at Porter Funeral Home, with Rev. Danny Bryant officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 12:00 P.M. until the service time at the funeral home. Porter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Barnett was born November 16, 1946, in Attala County, MS. He was the owner of B&P Dollar Store on Main Street, and the manager of Fred’s Dollar Store for 30 years. Gary was a member of Polar Flat Baptist Church, and a past deacon. In his spare time, he enjoyed riding his motorcycle, gardening, cooking, and spending time with his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ozell Avritt Barnett; his parents, Carmen Hayes and Richard Calvin Barnette; one sister, Janice Bell; and two brothers, Richard Barnette and Kerlyn Hayes Barnette.
Gary is survived by two daughters, Melanie (Justin) Rodgers of Louisville, and Kimberly Nowell of Philadelphia, MS; one son, Brian (Robin) Barnett of Olive Branch, MS; three sisters, Peggy (James Wiley) Smith of Carthage, MS, Sharon Kay (Larry) Busby of Jasper, AL, and Pam Edwards of Jasper, AL; one brother, Danny Ray (Sarah) Barnette of Kosciusko, MS; six grandchildren; and 1 great grandchild.
