George J. was born October 12, 1921, to John Jamison and Sallie Beauchamp Hollister. He is a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Pascagoula; and a retired Marine Surveyor. Mr. Hollister answered the call of his country by attending and graduating from the United States Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, New York. During World War II, he served on various ships as a Merchant Marine in various theaters of action…the North Atlantic Theater, the Mediterranean Middle East Theater, and the Pacific War Theater. He was a Master Mariner and, after obtaining the rank of Captain, became a member of the prestigious Marine Society of the City of New York.
George J. is survived by his sons, Dr. John Jamison “Jack” Hollister and wife, Jan, of Starkville, Mississippi; and George Stevens Hollister and wife, Laura, of Madison, Mississippi; one sister, Margaret Moore Wolfe of Pascagoula; and a host of nieces and nephews. One of his greatest joys was being “Granddaddy” to his grandchildren: Jamison Hollister and wife, McGhee; Sallie Marie Hollister Campbell and husband, Michael; Graham Hollister and wife, Shelby; Kate Hollister Tominello and husband, Drew; and Maggie Hollister; and his two great-grandchildren, Alyce Tominello and Wyatt Campbell. He is also survived by his step-grandchildren: Dawn Graham and husband, Micah; Traci Hannan and husband, Stephen; Trey Whitehead and wife, Lauren; and Trent Whitehead; and his step-great-grandchildren: Bradley and Branson Baysinger; Sage Linley; Charleigh Whitehead; and Peyton Whitehead. Mr. Hollister was preceded in death by his wife, Katherine Stevens Hollister and his parents.
