Mrs. Norma Jean Mills Black entered eternal rest on Sunday, September 16, 2012, surrounded by her family at her residence in Louisville, Mississippi. Visitation will be Tuesday, September 18, 2012, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Nowell-Massey Funeral Home in Louisville. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 19, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. in the Nowell-Massey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mike Dowd and Rev. Leslie F. “Bo” Mills officiating. Interment will be in the Center Ridge United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Mrs. Black was born on March 20, 1926, in Winston County, Mississippi, to Murrey L. and Corine Burroughs Mills. She graduated from Ford High School in 1945 and attended East Mississippi Junior College on a basketball scholarship. She and W. L. Black, Jr., were married on September 7, 1946. She retired after 38 years of service with the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service. She was a member of Center Ridge United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her husband of 66 years, W. L. Black, Jr., of Louisville; her son, Murrey Lee Black (Robin) also of Louisville; her daughter, Debbie Ladner (Theron) of Kiln, Mississippi; her brother, Rev. Leslie F. “Bo” Mills (Celia) of Louisville; her sister-in-law, Bobbye Mills, of Louisville; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Black was preceded in death by her parents, Murrey L. and Corine Mills; and her brother, M. L. Mills, Jr.
Pallbearers will be Pete Mills, Ken Mills, Brian Mills, Charles Smyth, Danny Mills, and David Mills.
