Bobbie Jean (Roberson) Wells, formerly of Ackerman, MS, passed away Thursday, July 16, 2020, at Winston Medical Center, in Louisville, MS. Mrs. Wells was born April 21, 1935, in Batesville, MS, to Luke and Ruth(Mason) Roberson. She was a homemaker and caregiver.

Private graveside services were held for Mrs. Wells on Saturday, July 18, 2020, 3:00 P.M., at Enon Cemetery in Ackerman, MS.

Mrs. Wells is survived by 1 son, Gary(Beverly) Wells of Brandon, MS, 3 daughters, Pam(Davis) Kelly of Louisville, MS, Cathy(Brian) Tennant of Ackerman, MS, Tammie Bowman of Ackerman, MS, 2 sisters, Madge Duke of Brandon, MS, Barbara Ruth(John) Gardner of Brandon, 7 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Wells was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Wells, her parents, her step-father, 1 granddaughter (Tracy Wells), 1 brother, and 1 sister.

Brenda K. Wood

Brenda K. Wood passed away Sunday, July 26, 2020, at Choctaw County Hospital, in Ackerman, MS. She was born December 11, 1952, in Columbus, MS, to David and Elizabeth Jean(Warner) McDill. She was 67 years old. Mrs. Wood was a wife and homemaker.

Memorial services will be held at a later date.

Mrs. Wood is survived by her husband, Larry Wood of Ackerman, MS, 2 daughters, Melissa(friend Gary Gipson)Wood of Pearl, MS, Glenda(Daniel) Wood-Johnson of Pearl, MS, 1 son, William Douglas Wood of Brandon, MS, 1 sister, Carolyn(Danny)Parks of Louisville, MS, 12 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and 1 nephew.

Frances “Kay” Eaves

Mrs. Frances “Kay” Eaves, 79, passed away on Wednesday, July 29, 2020, at Oak Cottage at the Winston County Hospital in Louisville. Graveside services and interment will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, August 1st, at Memorial Park Cemetery, with Dr. Heath Hillman officiating. Porter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Eaves was born August 30, 1940, in Jackson, MS, to Inez and Stanley Leon Polk. She graduated from California Baptist University and was an elementary school teacher for over 30 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, Inez and Stanley Polk, who ministered at churches from Mississippi to California. Kay had a love for music from the age of five, and participated in her parent’s church ministry by playing the piano. She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church, where she played the piano for her Sunday school department.

She is survived by her husband, G. Jyles Eaves of Louisville, MS; her son, Stanley (Cheryl) Orr of Honolulu, HI; her step-daughter, Juanita (Steve) Kennedy of Ridgeland, MS; and her three grandchildren, Hazel Orr, Keely Kennedy, and Keaton Kennedy.

Pallbearers will be members of the Adult 5 Sunday School Class at First Baptist Church.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Music Program.

Jean B. Coward

Jean Brumfield Coward, age 90, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, July 29, 2020, at her residence in the Oak Grove Community in Noxapater, Mississippi. Graveside services and interment will be 11 a.m. Friday, July 31 in the Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Charles Rook and Dusty Coward officiating. The family encourages everyone to follow COVID-19 precautions.

Jean was born December 11, 1929, to Cullen and Grace Fortenberry Brumfield in Tylertown, Mississippi. She was a member of Liberty Baptist Church of Noxapater. For many years, she taught Sunday school, training union classes, and Vacation Bible School at Oak Grove Baptist Church. She was a homemaker and was very involved in 4-H activities when her children were young. MawMaw Jean was an avid outdoors person; she loved beautiful flowers and enjoyed working in her flower beds; and she loved to fish. She loved spending time with her family especially on Christmas Eve when each family member was expected to be at her house. As long as her health allowed her to travel, she enjoyed watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren play any sport in which they participated.

Jean is survived by her loving husband of 69 years Troy Coward of Noxapater; and four children: Beverly Wilkes also of Noxapater, Janice Stephens and husband Doug of Eupora, Mississippi, James Coward and wife Judy, and Troy Coward, Jr. and wife Marsha all of Noxapater. Also, she leaves behind one sister Jennie (Gene) Norman of Summit, Mississippi, and one brother Jewel (Evelyn) Brumfield of Bogalusa, Louisiana. One of her greatest joys was being “MawMaw Jean” to her 10 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers: Bill, Frank, Bob, and Roland Brumfield; one sister Lula Meadows; her granddaughter Amanda Coward; and her son-in-law Tuck Wilkes.

Serving as pallbearers are Chet Wilkes, Justin Wilkes, Dusty Coward, Hays Stephens, Corey Coward, Ty Duran, and Connor Stephens.

Charles Lamar Capps

Mr. Charles Lamar Capps, 73, of Collinsville, passed away Sunday, July 26, 2020, at Anderson Regional Medical Center.

Graveside services for Mr. Capps were at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, July 28, 2020, at Old Mars Hill Cemetery in Winston County with the Rev. Rodney Baker officiating. Interment followed graveside rites. Robert Barham Family Funeral Home was honored to be entrusted with the arrangements.

Charlie was born in Pascagoula, Miss. July 2, 1947. In his youth he was a military "brat," traveling and living all over the United States, and abroad in Japan and Germany. He started his career by serving in the U.S. Air Force. Once he finished his duties with the Air Force, he continued his education at the University of Mississippi, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts. Charlie continued his education and obtained a Master of Arts in Teaching from Mississippi State University. Charles went on to teach in the public and private school sectors in both Mississippi and Alabama. He was a very well-read, intellectual man, who spoke five different languages, holding honors with Delta Phi Alpha and Pi Delta Phi.

Charles had a love for photography, traveling, visiting all US states and many locations in Canada. He was an active member of Abundant Life Tabernacle and also served with the Gideon's for many years. He was a committed Christian serving Christ our Lord and Savior.

Mr. Capps is survived by his wife of 41 years, Illine Giles Capps. He is also survived by several aunts, uncles, and cousins, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews. Mr. Charles is preceded in death by his parents, Connard and Amy Capps, and one brother, Dave Capps.

Khristi Rogers

Khristi Lynn Rogers passed away Tuesday, July 28, 2020, at her residence, in Holly Springs, MS. She was born August 21, 1957, in Levelland, TX, to Hugh B. and Frances(Wilson) Long. She was 62 years old. Mrs. Rogers was a retired anatomy teacher.

Private graveside services will be held on Saturday, August 1, 2020, 11:00 a.m., at French Camp Cemetery in French Camp, MS. Visitation will be held 9:30-10:30 at Coleman Funeral Home prior to graveside services.

Mrs. Rogers is survived by her husband, Ralph Rogers of Holly Springs, MS, her mother, Martha(Cutts) Long, 3 sons, Jason Rogers, Chris Rogers, Ben Rogers, 2 daughter-in-laws, Chantelle Rogers, Dana Rogers, 1 sister, Karmen(Tony) Whicker, and 5 grandchildren, Molly, Ben, Lucas, Riley, and Paul Pierre Rogers.

She is preceded in death by her father, mother, and 1 brother.

Tara K. Muirheid

Tara K. Muirheid died July 23rd, 2020, at Brooke Army Medical Center. She was born May 10th, 1982, the daughter of Clay Phillips and Saurahnee Boyd. Tara graduated from Nanih Waiya High School in Louisville Mississippi, class of 2000. Following graduation, she served in U.S. Army and was a veteran of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. While in service she married Grover J. Muirheid and was the mother of three children. Tara and Grover celebrated 11 years of marriage in May. She will be remembered as a great wife and loving mother.

Surviving in addition to her husband, Grover J. Muirheid, are her sons Clayton(8) and Caleb(20), daughter Scarlett(6), father, Clay Phillips, mother, Saurahnee Boyd, brothers, Travis Boyd-Phillips and Trevor Boyd-Phillips, sisters, Crystal Smith and Athena Sullivan, grandmother, Janet Anderson as well as numerous nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

Tara was preceded by her nephew, Jordan Smith, grandmother, Catherine Phillips, grandfather, Merle Phillips and grandfather, H.T. Anderson. Services will be held on Friday, July 31st at 10 am at MeadowLawn Funeral Home, 5611 E. Houston, San Antonio. Due to Covid restrictions the service will be closed, however it will be live streamed through the funeral home website meadowlawn.net

Following the service on Friday, an additional remembrance will be held in the family home from 3pm to 6pm in order to accommodate more family and friends.

Eddie Ray Peterson, Jr.

Eddie Ray Peterson Jr., age 59, of Odessa, Texas, passed away unexpectedly on July 23, 2020 in Midland, Texas. He was born on September 2, 1960, in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of Eddie Ray Peterson Sr. and Betty June (Sampica) Slyter. Eddie Ray grew up in Mississippi; attended high school in Davenport, Iowa; and later served in the United States Army. He was hard-working and took great pride in his job in the oilfields at FirstShot Production Services, LLC of Midland.

Eddie Ray was known as “Bucho” by those who loved him. He was blessed with an easy-going spirit and was always full of charm and whit. He remained kind-hearted through life’s many challenges of which he successfully overcame. Bucho was a talented horseman and farrier. He also shared his family’s love for music and was gifted with the guitar and harmonica. He was a loving son, caring father, beloved brother, fun uncle and good friend. He enjoyed writing letters to family and talking with his grandchildren who called him “Pap.”

Left to honor his memory are his children: Daniele (Britt) Hall of Wisconsin, and Tanner (Hailey) Peterson of Oklahoma; his grandchildren Thomas and Madeleine Hall, Stetson Peterson and Baby Boy Peterson due in October 2020; stepfather Dave Slyter of Iowa; stepmother Midge Peterson of Mississippi; brother Tucker Peterson of Texas; and his sisters: Trish (Tim) Flynn and Darcey (Johnnie) Yarbrough all of Texas; Vidette (Brad) Dunne of Iowa; and Amber (Jeff) Edlin of Mississippi; many nieces, nephews, extended family and cherished friends. He was preceded in death by both parents; paternal and maternal grandparents; sisters Terry Peterson, Rhonda Levsen, Roxie Childers, Machell Slyter-Tatro, Amberley Strawhacker; and former wife, Cynthia “Cindy” Peterson.

Graveside services and interment will be 2 p.m. on Thursday, July 30 at Webster Cemetery in Winston County with Rev. Tim Horton officiating. L. D. Kelley, Jr., age 77, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Monday, July 27, 2020, at his residence in Noxapater, Mississippi. L. D. was born July 9, 1943, to L. D. Kelley, Sr. and Gracie Duran Kelley. He was a graduate of Noxapater High School and he was a member of Hight Assembly of God Church in Noxapater. For 43 years, he was dedicated to his job at Taylor Machine Works as a diesel mechanic and foreman. He dearly loved his work family at Taylor’s as well as spending time with his grandchildren.

L. D. is survived by his loving wife of 58 years Bettie Warren Kelley of Noxapater, his daughter Lori Mills of Louisville, and his son Randle Kelley and wife Mignon of Mathiston, Mississippi. Also, he leaves behind three sisters Peggy (Earl) Yates, Shirley (Paul) Eaves, and Judy (James) Sloan. One of his greatest joys was being “PawPaw Jr.” to his six grandchildren: Jody (Jaimee) Kelley, Danica (Jonathan) Steed, and Chase, Hannah, and Grace Busby, and Jonathan (Jennifer) Mills; as well as nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his grandson Kelley Payton Mills, and his son-in-law Payton Kevin Mills.

Rosemary McDaniel

Rosemary McDaniel, age 76, passed away on Monday, July 27, 2020, at the Choctaw Regional Medical Center in Ackerman, Mississippi. Graveside services and interment will be 9 a.m. Thursday, July 30 at Welcome Chapel Jesus Name Church Cemetery with Rev. Bert Jones officiating. Rosemary was born April 6, 1944, to Limmie Ell and Mable Inman Smith. She was a graduate of West Point High School and she was a member of the River of Life Church in Louisville. Rosemary worked at TRW and was also a caregiver at the Hudspeth Home. She had a talent for upholstery; she collected antique dolls, played the piano, and loved her grandkids.

Rosemary is survived by four sons: Wayne McDaniel and wife Rachel; Shane McDaniel and wife Chasite all of Louisville; Duane McDaniel and wife April of Macon, Mississippi; and Micheal McDaniel of Tupelo, Mississippi. Also, she leaves behind three sisters Katherine Ruth (Pete) Walls, Sandra Kay (Dwight) Burchfield, and Barbara Carol (Billy) Harmon and one brother Roger Dale (Gladys) Smith. One of his greatest joys was being “MawMaw Rose” to her 11 grandchildren: Miranda McMillan, Dalton McDaniel, Brook Hester (Josh), Brock McDaniel, Chanley McDaniel, Jacob McDaniel, Taylor McDaniel, Christy McDaniel, Caden McDaniel, Roseanna McDaniel, and Carlee McDaniel; as well as three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years Charles McDaniel, her parents; and two brothers Frankie Carl Smith and Limmie “Bobby” Smith, Jr.

Serving as pallbearers are Brock McDaniel, Caden McDaniel, Chanley McDaniel, Dalton McDaniel, Jacob McDaniel, and Taylor McDaniel.

Debra “Debbie” Goodwin Richardson

Debra “Debbie” Goodwin Richardson, age 61, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 21, 2020. She was born on July 27, 1958 in Hattiesburg, Mississippi to the late Don and Anita Goodwin. She was a 1976 graduate of Winston Academy in Louisville, Mississippi.

Debbie lived most of her life in Starkville, Mississippi after her ten year residence in New Orleans, Louisiana working for Zapata Gulf Marine Corporation. She worked for Mississippi State University for over 30 years in various departments and was loved by all.

Debbie will always be remembered for her heartfelt radiance, her passionate and playful spirit, those brilliant blue eyes and beautiful smile. Her enthusiasm was infectious and her presence left an effusive energy to shine a light on those she loved. She possessed a tenderness and sweetness that is missed in our world. We will remember her quick wit and big unrestrained laugh and trust she is surrounded in joyful reunion with her brother and parents. May her precious soul Rest In Peace.

Debbie is survived by her son, Adam Richardson of Caledonia, MS; grandson, Mason of Starkville, MS; sister, Beverly Goodwin, of Tuscaloosa, AL; three nephews, Will Goodwin of Nashville, TN, Taylor Silva of New York, NY, and Jake Goodwin of Nashville, TN. She is preceded in death by her brother, Doug Goodwin of Starkville, MS.

To celebrate her life, a graveside service was held at Memorial Garden Park in Starkville, Mississippi on Sunday, July 26th at 6:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital in remembrance of the love Debbie had for all children.

Hilton Boswell

Services for Hilton Boswell will be on Saturday, July 25, 2020, at 11:00 a.m. from McClain-Hays Chapel with minister-in-charge, Rev. Randall Dunaway, officiating. Burial will follow from Henry’s Chapel Cemetery in Neshoba County. McClain-Hays Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Boswell, 74, died Tuesday, July 21, 2020, at his residence.

A native and lifelong resident of Neshoba County, he was owner/operator of Valley View Barber Shop for many years. He was a building contractor for commercial and home building. Mr. Boswell was a member of New Zion United Pentecostal Church. He served in the Mississippi National Guard for 20-plus years.

Survivors include wife, Carolyn; children, Robin Dungan (Craig) of Meridian, MS, Jason Boswell of Marietta, GA, Erin Rogers of Dunwoody, GA, Jessica Blanton (Eric) of Louisville, MS, Phillip McCool (Selena) of Conehatta, MS, Mary Ellen McCool-Salvagno (Gui) of Kissimmee, FL; brother, Joe Boswell (Loretta) of Collinsville, MS; sister, Barbara Boswell of Morton, MS; mother-in-law, Mary Moore of Philadelphia, MS; 13 grandchildren, Jazmine McCool, BettyLou McCool, Macey McCool, Austin Dungan, Hunter Dungan, Will Dungan, Sara Dungan, Wyatt Blanton, Kayla Blanton, Cameron Boswell, Hilton Walker Boswell, Bragg Rogers, McKaye Rogers; two great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Boyer and Margot Boyer; special animals; and a host of family and friends.

Steven Nathaniel Henson

Steven Nathaniel Henson passed away Wednesday, July 22, 2020, at Baptist Medical Center, in Columbus, MS. He was born August 27, 1960, in Choctaw County to Lenwood and Natalie(King) Henson. He was 59 years old. Mr. Henson was a retired logger.

Private graveside services will be held on Saturday, July 25, 2020, 10:00 a.m., at South Union Cemetery near Ackerman, MS.

Mr. Henson is survived by 1 daughter, Brittany(Kyle) Henderson of French Camp, MS, 1 son, Cole Henson of French Camp, MS, 4 brothers, Len(Paulda) Henson of Louisville, MS, Michael Henson of Weir, MS, Kevin(Robin) Henson of Weir, MS, Randy(Hedy) Wray of Louisiana, and 2 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Leon Hardin

Graveside service for Mr. Leon Hardin will be Saturday, July 25, 2020 at 1:00 PM in the Union Chapel Cemetery, Louisville, MS. Visitation will be Friday, July 24, 2020 from 1:00PM - 5:00PM at Taylor Funeral Home Chapel.

Billy K. Martin

Billy K. Martin went to his heavenly home on Friday, July 17, 2020 at the age of 87 at Neshoba General Hospital. He was born on September 18, 1932 To James Edward, Sr. and Sarah Moore Martin in Winston County, MS. He served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1951-1955 in the Korean War. He then worked for the railroad for over 30 years beginning with G, M & O and for ICG Railroad until his retirement.

Graveside service was held at 2 PM Sunday, July 19, 2020 at Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Noxapater. There was no visitation. John E. Stephens Chapel Funeral Service in charge.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Jautees Allford Martin and three children, Jimmy (Kay) Martin of Louisville, MS, Natalia Martin of Pearl, MS, and Kenny (Sue) Martin of Byram, MS. He also leaves 5 grandchildren, Joey (Bonnie) Teichert, Beverly (Paul) Sykes, Cyndi (Cole) Robinson, Ryan Thornton and Steve (Carol) Thornton. He had 11 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. Billy is also survived by his sisters, Mary Breazeale of Brandon, MS and Martha McBrayer of Charleston, MS and brother, Wayne (Carolyn) Martin of Gloster, LA. Uncle Bill is survived by numerous nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.

Billy was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings, Sarah Myatt and James Edward Martin, Jr.

Billy was a faithful member and deacon of Noxapater Baptist Church. He was his happiest when he was doing something for others. It might only be putting someone’s newspaper by their door every morning, or carrying breakfast or soup and cornbread to friends and family. He never wanted any praise or thanks, but God knew his heart and his actions.

Betty Stevenson Crowell

Mrs. Betty Lou Crowell, 77, passed away on Monday, July 20, 2020, at her daughter’s home in Louisville. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Wednesday, July 22nd, at Murphy Creek Baptist Church, with Rev. Mark Mayo and Rev. Grady Crowell officiating. Visitation will be at Murphy Creek Baptist Church on Wednesday from 2:00 P.M. until service time. Interment will be in Murphy Creek Cemetery. Porter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. 

Mrs. Crowell was born October 24, 1942, in Louisville, MS, to Eunice and Coy Stevenson. She was a graduate of Nanih Waiya High School, a homemaker, and a faithful member of Murphy Creek Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Crowell; and her parents.

She is survived by a daughter, Kim Higgason and her husband, Neal; two beloved granddaughters, Bethany Higgason and Kara Higgason; a sister, Shirley (Billy) Strait; a brother, Willie Earl (Dorothy) Stevenson; and a brother-in-law, Johnny (Claire) Crowell.

Oleta Chunn

Graveside services for Oleta Chunn will be held Monday, July 20, 2020, at 10:30 a. m. from Cedarlawn Cemetery in Philadelphia with Bro. Curtis Carter officiating. Visitation will be held at McClain-Hays Funeral Home on Monday from 8:30 until we leave for service. McClain-Hays Funeral Home is in charge o f arrangements. 

Mrs. Chunn, 93, of Philadelphia, died Saturday, July 18, 2020.

A native and lifelong resident of Neshoba County, she was co-owner and operator of Chunn’s Grocery on Range Avenue for many years. She enjoyed fishing, square dancing, gardening, crocheting, quilting, sewing and cooking. Mrs. Chunn was a member of Southside Methodist Church.

Survivors include four daughters, Betty Carter of Birmingham, AL, Paulette Brackin of Philadelphia, MS, Pamela Gomillion (Brad) of Carthage, MS, Retta White (Allen) of Union, MS; sisters, Bettye Jo Coward (Olyn) of Philadelphia, MS, Mae Barnett of Jackson, MS, Faye Luke of Noxapater, MS; eight grandchildren, Lucy Finney (Patrick), Kyle Carter, Michelle Jenkins, Eric Copeland, Dalton Brackin (Audrey), Jason Gomillion (Ami), Audrey Ryals, Paul White; 13 great-grandchildren, Sophia Finney, Ethan Jenkins, Eli Jenkins, Camron Copeland, Erica Copeland, Noah Brackin, Ezra Brackin, Zachery Brackin, Jacob Isbell, Chase Gomillion, Landon Gomillion, Hunter Ryals, Delanie Ryals; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Chunn was preceded in death by husband, Paul Edward Chunn; parents, Edgar and Bettye Price; sister, Evelyn Hatcher; and brother, Edgar Price, Jr.

Richard Edward Smith

Richard Edward Smith, 80, passed away on Friday, July 17, 2020, at Rush Hospital in Meridian, Mississippi. Graveside services and interment will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 20 at Indian Springs Assembly of God Cemetery with Bro. Franklin Smith officiating. The family urges everyone to follow COVID-19 precautions.

Richard was born April 25, 1940, to Earl and Allie Swindle Smith in Winston County. He was a faithful member of Indian Springs Assembly of God Church. Richard retired from Brisland Construction where he worked as a plumber and a welder. He enjoyed riding horses and motorcycles, and he loved woodworking.

Richard is survived by his wife Mavis Drury Smith of Noxapater, Mississippi. He was “Pop” to his sons: Ryan (Kristi) Smith; Randy (Janess) Smith; Rodney Smith; and Jesse (Rebecca) Dickerson; and his daughter India Dickerson (Blainne) Martin. Richard is also survived by three step-children and their families: Donna Eakes, Dobie (Raye Carol) Eakes; and Melissa (Joe) Rush. One of his greatest joys was being “PawPaw” to his 12 grandchildren: Madeleine Smith, Renner Smith, Keller Smith, Mia Smith, Eli Smith, Kailee Brown, Kollins Smith, Kaden Brown, Kye Smith, Brynnleigh Dickerson, James Colt Dickerson, and Kevin Kace Nichols. Richard also leaves behind eight sisters to mourn his passing: Eva Dean Johnson, Christine Yates, Sammie Hemphill, Gladys Drury, Josephine Quinn, Rosemary Brady, Ann Jenkins, and Allie Bozeman; and three brothers: Garland (Geraldine) Smith, Bobby Joe (Judy) Smith, and Rex Allen (Betty) Smith. He is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers Jimmy Don and Paul Smith and his sister Delma Ruth Slawson.

Serving as pallbearers are Tim Boatner, Gene Clay, Kenny Drury, Bobby Mayo, Paul Smith, and Wayne Smith. Dustin Quinn will be serving as an honorary pallbearer.
