Miss Bobbie Dean Shaw, 82, died Thursday, December 27, 2012, at Winston County Nursing Home in Louisville, MS. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Sunday, December 30th, at Porter Funeral Home, with Rev. Stacy Parvin officiating. Interment will be in New Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 2:00 PM until service time at Porter Funeral Home.
Mrs. Shaw was born September 20, 1930, in Winston County, MS. She was a graduate of Bond High School, the University of Southern Mississippi, and received her Masters degree in Education from the University of Mississippi. She was a school teacher in Meridian for many years, and was a reading specialist for the Meridian Public School System. She later taught at Winston Academy and in the Louisville Public School Systems. She was a member of New Hope United Methodist Church.
She is survived by three sisters, Shirley (Jim) Dawson of Houston, TX, Etheleen Shattles of Richton, MS, and Charlene (Miles) McNeill of Texas; and three brothers, Clifton Houston “Billy” Shaw of Philadelphia, MS, Samuel David (Doris) Shaw of Bell, TN, and James Bruce (Faye) Shaw of Louisville, MS.

Mr. Earnest "Spark Plug" Stevenson, 85, passed away on Wednesday, December 26, 2012, at his residence in Louisville, Mississippi. Mrs. Elisabeth Thurmond Herring Sinclair, died December 25, 2012, at her home in Tupelo, MS, after an extended illness. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, December 29th, at Grace Episcopal Church at 161 E. Peace St, Canton, MS. Visitation will be Saturday one hour prior to the service at Grace Episcopal Church. Interment will be in Canton Cemetery. Porter Funeral Home of Louisville is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Sinclair was born September 14, 1926, Gracey, Kentucky. She graduated from Hopkinsville High School in Hopkinsville, KY; and attended Sullins College in Bristol, VA. She was preceded in death by her parents, Elizabeth Lee Eckles and John L. Thurmond; two husbands, Lawrence M. Herring, and Dr. Charlie R. Sinclair; two sons, Don Herring and Lute Herring; and three brothers, William H. Thurmond, John M. Thurmond, and Lute E. Thurmond. Elisabeth loved being a wife, mother, aunt, and having all the family with her. She enjoyed cooking, traveling, the Episcopal Church, and was never without a faithful dog companion.
She is survived by her son, William L. (Fran) Herring of Tupelo; five step-children, Charlie Ray (Stephanie) Sinclair, Jr. of Brandon, MS, Kathryn S. (Paul) White of Tupelo, Karon S. (Clint) Barnes of Brandon, MS, Becky S. (Harry) Pepper of Canton, and Wanda S. (Will) Tucker of Rapids, MI; eighteen step-grandchildren, and five step-great grandchildren; and special caregivers, Nikki Tyes, Janice Hollis, and Shelia Shannon.

Mrs. Fulgham was born on June 25, 1945, to James B. and Ina Mae Chamblee Jackson. She was a member of Evergreen Baptist Church and she enjoyed volunteering through the Hospital Auxiliary in the Gift Shop at Winston Medical Center. She worked at Community Counseling Services in Program Assistance.
She is survived by her two daughters, Amanda Cornett of Louisville, Mississippi, and Misty Thompson and husband, Brian, of Novi, Michigan; her son, Tommy Fulgham and wife, Tammy; her mother, Ina Mae Jackson all of Louisville; and two brothers, Jimmy Jackson and wife, Helen Marie, also of Louisville; and Jeff Jackson and wife, Wanda, of Winfield, Alabama. She is also survived by four grandchildren: Katy and Ben Thompson, Tyler Burnham, and Trent Fulgham; as well as, three nephews, one niece; five great-nieces; and one great-nephew. Catherine Smyth
Mrs. Smyth was born October 25, 1919, in Winston County, MS. She was a graduate and valedictorian of Bond High School. She was a founding member of Lake Tiak O’Khata Resort. She was an artist, and painted into her 90’s; and was an invited member of the American Society of Botanical Artist. She was a longtime member of Louisville Presbyterian Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ben Smyth; her parents, W. C. and Ora Bell Smyth; and a brother, C. C. "Lucky" McGahey.
She is survived by a daughter, B. J. Kelleghan of Louisville; a son, Charles (Beverly) Smyth of Louisville; three grandchildren, Leslie Charles Smyth, Catherine Kelleghan McGee, and Lee Smyth; and four great grandchildren.
Pallbearers are Moe Yarbrough, Charley McCool, Jeff Fulton, Max McGee, David Wilson, Sonny White, Henry Brandt, and Tony Wilder.

Mr. Pete Arnold, 74, passed away on Friday, December 21, 2012, at Winston Medical Center inLouisville, Mississippi. Born on June 21, 1938, Mr. Arnold was a member of First Apostolic Church of Louisville. He was a businessman and enjoyed his career as a real estate professional. He was a member of the Mississippi Real Estate Commission and he answered the call of his country by serving in the United States Navy in the Post Korean and the Vietnam Wars.
Pete is survived by wife of 50 years, Patricia “Pat” Arnold of Louisville; his daughter, Teresa Hazel Fovel and husband, David, of Rochester, New York; and two sons, Ralph Arnold and wife, Georgia, of Elkmont, Alabama; and Aaron H. Arnold of Louisville. He is also survived by two sisters, Rose M. Hollingsworth of Kalamazoo, Michigan; and Hazel James and husband, Mike, of Lakewood, California; and three brothers, Gerald Rivera and wife, Angela; Hal M. Arnold and wife, Laurie; and Danny Arnold and wife, Carolyn, all of Louisville. Pete has four grandchildren: Christopher Fovel, Samantha Fovel, Gregory Fovel, and Timothy Fovel; as well as, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Luz Almodovar Rivera.

Mrs. Ella Louise Forster, 99, died Wednesday, December 19, 2012, at Winston County Nursing Home in Louisville, MS. Mrs. Forster was born March 20, 1913, in Baltimore, MD. She was an office manager for Union-Pacific and GM&O Railroad, and a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Margaretha Dorothea Timm and Oskar Michael Wilhelm Forster.
She is survived by her nieces and nephews, James W. Rowsey, William Hull Forster, Michael Hull Forster, Susan Hull Forster, Juliana Forster Dowell, Kurt Michael Forster, and Karen Lynn Forster Chapman.

William F. "Bill" Appleby
Dr. William F. "Bill" Appleby passed away peacefully, November 6, 2012, in Lake Junaluska, NC. He was born June 20, 1928 in Drew, Ms. and was a graduate of Eupora High School, Millsaps College (BA '50 & Honorary Doctorate of Divinity '87), Emory University Candler School of Theology (Masters of Divinity '52) and the Methodist Theology school in Ohio (Doctorate of Ministry '78).
A United Methodist minister, Brother Bill faithfully served and loved many small and large churches in North Mississippi for 42 years. He held special affinity for small membership churches and was a co-founder of the first "Cooperative Ministry" in the North Mississippi conference involving 26 congregations on 3 pastoral charges in Thishomingo County. He served as District Superintendent of the Tupelo District and a Conference Council Director of both the North Mississippi and Mississippi Conferences. Additionally, he served on many conference boards and commissions as well as institutions affiliated with the United Methodist Church. He was honored to have served as a delegate representing his conference at the Southeastern Jurisdictional and the General Conferences of the United Methodist Church.
Bill was proud to serve the church and its people and to have mentored and counseled others, particularly young clergy. He cherished his deep and meaningful friendships with others.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Smith Appleby, and leaves a loving wife, Minna Hayes Appleby, and his children, Frank and Libby (Marty Stamper), and their children Will and Lizzy Appleby and Layne & Taylor Smith as well as his step children, Greg Gilbert (Suzy) and Kyle Gilbert (Julia) and their children.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00AM Saturday, January 5th., at the Frist United Methodist Church in Clarksdale, Ms. The family will receive friends at the church beginning at 9:00AM prior to the service. Interment will be private at LaGrange UMC in Choctaw County.

Mrs. Pearl Clark Hodge, 82, passed away on December 17, 2012, at Winston Medical Center Nursing Home in Louisville, Mississippi. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, December 19th, at Harmony Baptist Church, with Rev. Jerry Lundy officiating. Interment will be in Harmony Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Porter Funeral Home.
Mr. Goodin was born April 6, 1926, in Winston County. He was a retired as a millwright from Georgia Pacific. He was an Army veteran of World War II, and a member of Harmony Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Rowena Luke Goodin of Louisville; a son, Ronnie (Kathleen) Goodin of Orlando, FL; two grandchildren, Abigail and Kate Goodin; and two brothers, Bob Goodin and Jack Goodin, both of Louisville.
Pallbearers are Chuck Barfoot, Robert Clark, Luke Parks, Gerald Ray Goodin, Robert Goodin, and Billy Moody. Honorary pallbearers are the members of the Men’s Sunday School Class at Harmony Baptist Church.

Berlin T. Rogers
Mr. Berlin Thomas Rogers, 80, died Sunday, December 16, 2012, at Montfort Jones Memorial Hospital in Kosciusko, MS. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, December 18th, at Bethel Baptist Church, with Rev. David Keen officiating. Interment will be in Bethel Baptist Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1:00 P.M. until service time at the church. Porter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Rogers was born August 3, 1932, in Winston County, Mississippi. He was an Army Veteran of The Korean War, and retired from the Army as a Major. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. He was also a teacher for 32 years in the Louisville School District, where he taught Biology, Driver Training, and was also a Guidance Counselor. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mildred Whitehead and John Walter Rogers; his son, John Thomas Rogers; a great grandson, Brandon Thomas McKinley; and four brothers, Bobby Rogers, Benny Roy Rogers, Bernice Rogers, and Buster Rogers.
Mr. Rogers is survived by his wife of 61 years, Minnie Clara Eaves Rogers; three daughters, Kathy (Joe) Hodge, Sharon (Tommy) McKinley, and Donna Sinclair, all of Louisville, MS; 12 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be The Deacons of Bethel Baptist Church.
