Vernon Quinton Black

Vernon Quinton Black, 96, passed away with his family by his side on Friday, February 27, 2026, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Eupora, Mississippi. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, March 1, in the Massey Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Willy Weddle officiating. Visitation will be the day of the service at the funeral home from 1:00 p.m. until service time. Interment will immediately follow the service in Rural Hill Cemetery.


Vernon was born April 6, 1929, to William Lee and Elizabeth Massey Black in Winston County, Mississippi. He attended Sapa Baptist Church in Webster County. Quinton proudly served his country in the United States Army and later dedicated his career to caring for others as a physical therapist assistant at the Veterans Hospital in Michigan. He loved music and especially enjoyed attending performances at the Longview Opry. Quinton was an avid reader. He also looked forward to meals at Pap’s and cherished the time he spent with his family.


Vernon is survived by numerous children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; as well as many loving nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Kennedy Black, and his second wife, Mary Catherine Black.


Serving as pallbearers are Austin Williamson, Carlos Black, Robbie Barnes, James Travis Johnson, Hunter Johnson, and Luke Williamson. Memorial contributions in honor of Vernon may be given to Rural Hill Cemetery Fund, c/o Mrs. Dale Shumaker, 12878 Highway 14 West, McCool, MS 39108.
