Sylvia Ann Porter Moreland of Ackerman, MS, passed away on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, near Longview, MS. Sylvia was born on February 22, 1939, in Ackerman, MS, to Homer Shafner and Gladys (McBrayer) Porter. She was 85 years old. Sylvia was retired from ASCS where she worked as an Office Manager. She was a member of Ackerman Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held at Ackerman Baptist Church in Ackerman, MS on Friday, September 13, 2024 at 2:00 PM with Dr. Danny Irvin and Dr. Wayne McLeod officiating. Burial will follow at Enon Cemetery in Ackerman, MS. Visitation will be held prior to service time from 1:00 PM –2:00 PM at Ackerman Baptist Church in Ackerman, MS. Pallbearers will be Terry Bellew, Benny Weeks, Benny Graves, Ben Tharp, Eric Chambers, and Randy Craft with special recognition to Sylvia’s Sunday School Class.
Sylvia is survived by her brother, Don Porter of Ackerman/Jackson, MS, and her sister, Rose Mary Porter of Jackson, MS.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Homer Shafner and Gladys (McBrayer) Porter, and her son, William Todd Moreland.
