Marilyn was born in New Orleans, LA, on July 25, 1945, to Marye and Sam Parkerson. Raised in New Orleans, Metairie, and Vicksburg, she graduated from All Saints’ Episcopal School in Vicksburg, MS, in 1963. Marilyn attended Millsaps College for one year before transferring to Mississippi State University where she met her future husband. She graduated from MSU with an education degree in French. She married her husband, Frank, and they settled in Louisville to work and start a family. She taught French at Winston Academy before taking over as bookkeeper for Blon-Harris Hardware Store on Main Street. In 1976, Marilyn was asked to take over and teach the kindergarten class at First Presbyterian Church. In 1979, she was hired to teach first grade at Louisville Elementary School where she remained for the next twenty-five years until her retirement in 2004. Marilyn was a dedicated Girl Scout Leader, a member of the Louisville Music Club, and served for years as a summer volunteer at the Winston County Library. After Hurricane Katrina in 2005 and the 2014 Winston County tornado, Marilyn spent countless hours at City Hall and other Louisville locations helping displaced families get assistance and file claims. She was an extremely active member of First Presbyterian Church. She taught Sunday School, was a member of the choir, served as President of the Women in the Church multiple times, and faithfully served as church historian for many years. Marilyn was a talented seamstress who enjoyed sewing and embroidering special items for births, special events, holidays, and her granddaughter’s dog!
She is survived by her two daughters Jennifer Morgan of Hattiesburg, MS, and Susan Tanner (Raymond) of Madison, MS, granddaughter Caroline Tanner, brother Russell Parkerson (Gail) of Hattiesburg, MS, sister-in-law Anne Christopher of Columbus, MS, and multiple nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Frank, her parents Marye and Sam Parkerson, her brother and sister-in-law, Jane and Sam Parkerson, Jr., and brother-in-law Dick Christopher.
