At the age of 87, Mr. Jimmie Hamilton passed away late Wednesday night, February 12, 2020, at his home in Noxapater, Mississippi surround by his loving wife, daughter, and son. Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 15 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Noxapater Baptist Church, where he had been a faithful member for over 60 years till heath issues prevented him from attending. The funeral service will be held at the church beginning at 11 a.m. followed by graveside services at Mount Carmel Cemetery with Reverend Gowan Ellis presiding.
Jimmie was born February 25, 1932, to Lillian and Cecil Hamilton in Vardaman Mississippi. His childhood days were spent in Vardaman working and playing with his parents, brother and sister on their family cotton farm. Jimmie started his work career as only a teenager with Irby Construction where he traveled across the US working on projects. His second job was a lineman with East Mississippi Electric Company putting in and repairing power lines across the Southeast United States. While working in Winston County for the power company, Jimmie met the love of his life, Doris McNeel, while roller skating one weekend at the local skating rink in Philadelphia, Mississippi. After they were married, roller skating continued to be one of their favorite ways to spend time together and with their two children, Beverly and Paul David. The love for his family was great and he loved spending time with them. Jimmie and Doris had been married for 62 wonderful years at the time of his death.
After his job with East Mississippi Electric Company Jimmie took a job as an electrician with Georgia Pacific in Louisville, where he continued to work until he retired. When Jimmie was not working at Georgia Pacific or tending to the cows on his farm in Noxapater, his favorite pass times were by far hunting and fishing. As any of his friends can tell you, he took his hunting and fishing very seriously and pursued pretty much every form of game that existed in the South. Some of his leisure days were spent training his hunting dogs for quail, deer, and raccoon. Other days were spent with his son and friends hand grabbing huge catfish out of the Noxubee and Yockanookany rivers or traversing the hills and swamps of Mississippi in search of quail or trophy bucks. Topping his hobby list was always his passion for crappie fishing where he spent endless days on Ross Barnett and Grenada reservoirs searching for the best locations and techniques for catching these fish. As most of his friends will tell you, he was very good at crappie fishing. It was hard to beat him at this game and he would always gladly let you know that.
Jimmie is survived by his wife Doris McNeel Hamilton of Noxapater; daughter Beverly Comeaux of Noxapater; son Paul David Hamilton of Ridgeland, MS; and his sister Nell Harrelson of Bruce, Mississippi. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Cecil and Lillian VanLandingham Hamilton and his brother Leroy Hamilton.
Active pallbearers will be Phil Hamilton, Mark Harrelson, Jerome Kittrell, Billy Gene McNeel, Grayson Freeman, and Wade Kennedy. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Tim Harrelson, Jeff Harrelson, Phil Chapel, Buddy Chapel, George Freeman, and Peter Hudson. Any donations given in memory of Jimmie Hamilton should be donated to Noxapater Baptist Church.
