Eloise “Weezie” Smith Sloan, 74, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, November 19, 2016, at OCH Regional Medical Center in Starkville, Mississippi. Visitation will be Monday, November 21, 2016, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Nowell Massey Funeral Home in Louisville, Mississippi; and, there will be one hour of visitation prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 22, 2016, at Friendship Baptist Church on Craig Springs Road with Rev. Jeremy Brown and Rev. Trent Jaudon officiating. Interment will follow in Beth Eden Lutheran Church Cemetery in Winston County.
Eloise was born January 19, 1942, to William Archie and Lillian Acker Smith in Carrollton, Alabama. She was a member of Friendship Baptist Church; and she retired as a Chemistry Technician from the Agricultural Research Service, a division of USDA, at Mississippi State University. Weezie dearly loved her family and friends; and if you were her friend, you quickly realized that she made her friends her family.
Eloise is survived by two daughters, Marie and Renee Sloan; and her brother, William Leonard Smith and wife, Evelyn, all of Sturgis. One of her greatest joys was being “Granny” to her granddaughter, Shanea Sloan Borthwick and husband, Zac, of Starkville. She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and many friends.
Eloise was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Edward Sloan; an infant daughter, Angelia Charlene Sloan; her parents; five brothers, J. L., Boyd, William Noble, Edward Earl, and Marvin Aaron Smith; and by three sisters, Earnestine Smith Yerby, Doris Smith Acker, and Lorraine Smith Simpson.
Serving as pallbearers are Chad Ray, Chip Slaughter, David Sloan, Mark Sloan, Tim Sloan, and William Yerby. Honorary pallbearers are Zac Borthwick, Cade McCarty, Jeff Rainey, Lane Rainey, Earl Sloan, and Larry Smith.
