Mr. Joe Ed Curtis, 65, died Friday, June 28, 2013, at his home in Louisville, MS, with his wife and caregiver by his side. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday at First United Methodist Church, with Rev. Mike Childs and Rev. Bill Taylor officiating. Interment will be in Enon Cemetery in Ackerman, MS. Visitation will be held from 5:00 until 8:00 P.M. Saturday at the funeral home. Porter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Curtis was born December 15, 1947, in French Camp, MS, but had resided in Louisville for the past 37 years. He was a graduate of Ackerman High School and Mississippi State University. He was an insurance salesman for American Public Life Insurance Company, and a faithful member of Louisville First United Methodist Church, where he taught the Discipleship Sunday School class. Mr. Curtis was also an avid MSU football fan, and was greatly respected throughout the community.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hazel Box Curtis Coleman and Robert Warren Curtis; his stepfather, Robert Coleman; and a brother, Robert Curtis.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Gloria Burris Curtis of Louisville, his daughter, Mary Katherine Curtis Stewart (Tim) of Flora, MS; his son, Christopher “Clay” Curtis of Tupelo, MS; a sister, Charlotte Curtis Taylor (Bill); a brother, Tommy Curtis (Debby); and his 3 grandchildren, Peyton Curtis Stewart, Emily Katherine Stewart, and Kendall Grace Stewart; and his mother-in-law, Adelyne Burris.
Pallbearers will be Paul Simmons, Buster Moody, Billy Pearson, J.L. Pierce, Donny Todd, Tim Smith, Lucius Burris, and Charles Curtis.
