Mrs. Deanie Barnhill Shumaker, 72, passed away on Friday, January 4, 2013, at Baptist Memorial Golden Triangle Hospital in Columbus, Mississippi. Visitation will be at Lowndes Funeral Home in Columbus, Mississippi, on Sunday, January 6, 2013, from 4:00 p.m. until 7 p.m. Visitation will also be held at Nowell-Massey Funeral Home in Louisville, Mississippi, on Monday, January 7, 2013, from 12 p.m. until service time. Funeral services will be Monday at 2 p.m. in the Nowell-Massey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Roy Hawkins officiating. Interment will follow in Murphy Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.Born on August 21, 1940, Mrs. Shumaker was a member of Calvary Baptist Church of Columbus, Mississippi, and she was a homemaker.
Mrs. Shumaker is survived by three daughters: Lesa Zeller and husband, Dan, of Warner Robins, Georgia; Lana Van Houten of Millbrook, Alabama; and Samantha Rushing and husband, Marc, of Columbus, Mississippi. She is also survived by five grandchildren: Chris Van Houten, Brian Zeller, Mandie Hurst, Makenzie Rushing and Caitlin Rushing; three great-grandchildren: Jaydyn Hurst, Kirean Hurst, and Greyson Hurst; and one sister, Margaret Johnson and husband, Olen, of Louisville, Mississippi. She is preceded in death by her husband, Sammy Shumaker; her parents, Walter D. and Alma Smith Barnhill; three brothers: Max Barnhill, Thaddeus Barnhill, and Eddie Barnhill; and by one sister, Ruth Deen.
Serving as pallbearers will be Chris Van Houten, Brian Zeller, Ronnie Shumaker and Turner Barnhill. Nowell-Massey Funeral Home, 724 North Columbus Avenue, Louisville, MS is handling the arrangements.
