Hilda Bell "Gene" Smith, 82, passed away Saturday, May 1, 2010, in Charlotte, NC.
Visitation will be 6-8pm Thursday, May 6, 2010, at Chancellor Funeral Home in Byram, MS. Services will be 1 pm Friday, May 7, 2010, in the funeral home chapel followed by internment at Lakewood South.
Mrs. Smith was a native of Winston County, MS, born March 20, 1928, to Eddie and Laura Eaves Bell. She retired from AT&T as an operator and was a member of Telephone Pioneers. Mrs. Smith had been a member at First Baptist Church in Monroe, NC, McDowell Rd. Baptist Church and Alta Woods Baptist Church of Jackson, and Bethel Baptist Church in Winston County, MS
She is preceded in death by her husband, Myron Smith. Survivors include her sons, Richard Smith (Karen) of Indian Trail, NC and Edward Smith of Atlanta, GA; brother, Devon Bell of Lake Village, AR and Bobby Bell of Newnan, GA; and five grandchildren, Elizabeth, Lauralyn, Lucas, Grayson and Annaliese.
Memorial donations may be made to Bethany Christian Services, 142 Airport Rd., Ste K, Arden, NC 28704, to assist domestic and international adoptions.
