Kenneth Lamar “Kenny” Thompson

Kenneth Lamar “Kenny” Thompson, 73, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi. Visitation will be Monday, February 3 at Massey Funeral Home in Louisville from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 4, in the Massey Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Mike Childs officiating. Interment will immediately follow the service in Murphy Creek Cemetery.

Kenny was born July 20, 1951, to James Thompson and Mary Lois Watts McGaugh in Winston County. He attended First Methodist Church where he was an active member. Kenny was an avid fisherman; he especially enjoyed fishing for crappie and bass. In his earlier years, he was a member of a local bass fishing club and participated in fishing in bass tournaments. Professionally, he worked in the construction field for many years. Prior to that, he was in the logging business.

Kenny is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Phyllis Hill Thompson of Louisville; his daughters, Memree Thompson White also of Louisville and Mallory Thompson-Young (Palmer) of Philadelphia, Mississippi; and his son, Ken Thompson of Lake Elsinore, California. One of his greatest joys was being “Granddaddy” to his six grandchildren: Alan Michael White (Kelsey), Anna White, Madalyn Jade Young, Margaret Brynn Young, Lily Castro-Thompson, and Emmett Castro-Thompson; as well as his great-grandson, Grayson White. Kenny is also survived by his loving aunts, nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Roy Thompson; and sister, Kathy Robinson.

Serving as pallbearers are Jay Bowman, Brandon Burrage, Jeff Culwell, Roy Dale Fulton, Gary Hillhouse, Josh Palmer, Daniel Thompson, Alan Michael White, and Palmer Young. Honorary pallbearers are Jerome Blanton, Jerry Estes, Jamie Hutchinson, and Joe Lowery.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the Emergency Room staff at Winston Medical Center and the dedicated personnel at the Neurological Intensive Care Unit of the University of Mississippi Medical Center for the excellent care and compassion shown during this time.
