Elizabeth Lucille Harvey Harris was born to Monroe and Elizabeth Harvey on April 30, 1926, the youngest of five children. After graduating from Noxapater High School where she played basketball, Lucille married Dan Dillard Harris and supported his service as a member of the Army Air Corp and a B-24 gunner during World War II. They made their home in Louisville, Mississippi, and soon welcomed their daughter Barbara Joel in 1945 and their son Danny in 1952. In 1970 she officially became “Mimi” when her first grandchild was born. An accomplished cook, gardener, and seamstress and an avid reader and crossword puzzle solver, Mimi was a loyal friend to many in the various cities she and Dan lived in throughout his career with Southern Natural Gas Company. Mimi was a member of the Jr. Auxiliary of Louisville and a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Louisville. Mimi loved following sports, particularly football and baseball. She was a devoted fan of the Louisville Wildcats and the Ole Miss Rebels, especially when Danny played for both. She never missed a Jackson Prep football game when her grandson Wes was playing. She attended the dance recitals, soccer games, baseball, and football games of her great-grandchildren, as well. Up until very recently, she regularly enjoyed televised games of the Atlanta Braves and the Ole Miss Rebels. Above all, Mimi was devoted to her family. She leaves behind a strong legacy of love through her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. We are all better people for having been loved by Mimi.
Survivors include her daughter Barbara Harris Hull, son Dan Dillard Harris, Jr. (Beth); granddaughters Gena Hull Dye (Brad) and Dana Hull Van Veckhoven (Michael), grandson Wes Harris (Susie) and great-grandchildren Tate Dye Lindow(Jake), Dan Dye, Billy Van Veckhoven, Lucy Van Veckhoven, Lainey Harris, and Ramsey Harris.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Dan Harris, her son-in-law, Billy James Hull; a sister, Margie Morris, and three brothers, Billy Harvey, Randell Harvey, and James Monroe Harvey.
The family would like to extend our warmest thanks to the loving staff and family of the Bee Hive of Louisville, our hospice nurse Robyn, and Mimi’s amazing sitters Rita, Shay, Asia, and Shondolyn.
Pallbearers include Wes Harris, Brad Dye, Michael Van Veckhoven, Dan Dye, Billy Van Veckhoven, and Stuart Kinard.
