Michael D. “Red” Malone

Michael D. “Red” Malone, 69, passed away Tuesday, October 15, 2024, at his home in Sturgis, Mississippi. Graveside services and interment will be 10 a.m. Thursday, October 17 in McClelland Cemetery on Craig Springs Road with David Chaney officiating.

Red was born December 8, 1954, to Junior and Margaret McClelland Malone in Starkville, Mississippi. He attended Friendship Baptist Church. Red was an avid outdoorsman; he enjoyed hunting, especially turkey, deer, and squirrel. He especially enjoyed spending time and hunting with his brothers. He liked to “brag” that he killed more squirrels than Stan! Red enjoyed “bragging” about his last squirrel hunt; that he had beaten Stan and Mark killing squirrels! Another outside activity that he enjoyed was mowing the grass. He loved walking in the woods and being outside at dawn, his favorite time of day, when everything was waking up and coming alive for the day. Red dearly loved and cared for his family.

Red is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Cindy Box Malone; and his daughter, Nikki Malone, both of Sturgis, Mississippi. He is also survived by his siblings: Stan (Brenda) Malone; Kenny (Connie) Malone; Barbara McBride; Judy (Mark) Shaw; and Donna (David) Chaney. He also leaves behind his brother-in-law, Jeff (Mary Jean) Box; and sister-in-law, Charlice McKenzie; as well as a host of loving nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends. Red was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Janice Petty; sister-in-law, Candace Box; and brothers-in-law, Mike Box and Darryl McKenzie.

Serving as pallbearers are Michael Malone, Chris McBride, Josh McBride, Terry McClelland, Chamath Wgewardane; and Robert Patrick.
