Guy was born April 13, 1929, in Noxapater, MS, to Gordon Bennett Young and Sara Elizabeth Kemp Young. He was a graduate of Ford High School, and attended Hinds Community College and East Central Community College. He retired from Georgia Pacific Corp after working there for over 25 years, where he was superintendent of the plywood plant. Guy was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was a licensed electrician, who loved God, his family, his community, and farming. He was a Mason, and a faithful member and deacon of Calvary Baptist Church where he served in various leadership positions. Guy, a hard worker his entire life, served as a fireman with the Shiloh Volunteer Fire Department and as President of the Calvary Water Board. Generous with his time and energy, he was always willing to assist anyone who needed a helping hand. His greatest joy in life was serving Christ and serving others. He believed in investing in future generations and stayed involved in the Louisville PTA even after his children had graduated. He opened his home to friends, family, neighbors, visiting missionaries, revival preachers, and his grandson’s occasional Boy Scout troop expeditions. He enjoyed a good story and one of his favorite places was at the head of his dining room table surrounded by family listening as they talked, laughed and reminisced. He will be greatly missed, but he has left a rich legacy behind.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 61 years, Dorothy Crenshaw Young; and a brother, Darvin Young.
Guy is survived by three daughters, Barbara (Rick) Walker of Louisville, Debbie (Doug) Miles of Daphne, AL, and Lisa (James) Bratton of Fort Worth, TX; four grandchildren, Lindsey Miles (Will) Richardson, Lauren Miles (Jeff) Crawford, Chris (Carla) Walker, and Alison Walker; great grandchildren, Miles Richardson, Micah Richardson, Brynn Crawford, Hadley Crawford, and Case Crawford; and a host of cousins and friends.
Pallbearers will be James Bratton, Robert Clark, Bobby Joe Edwards, Doug Miles, Jordan Mitchell, Will Richardson, Miles Richardson, and Micah Richardson. Honorary pallbearers will be Deedye Metts and Dickie Dukes.
