James was born June 3, 1957, to J. W. and Bonnie Sullivan Carter in Beville, Texas. He was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church. James was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish. He could “fix” anything; and in his words, he was a “jack of all trades and master of none.” James dearly loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them, especially his grandchildren.
James is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Teresa White Carter; and his children, Kimberly (Todd) Rogers and James William “Jay” Carter, Jr. all of Louisville; mother, Bonnie Burks; and son-in-law, Jason “Bull” Burchfield. One of his greatest joys was being “Paw” to his grandchildren: Will-Corben (Alaina) Rogers, Taylor (Bonnie) Moody, Brody (Ashlee) Burchfield, Landen (Grace) Rogers, Bella Burchfield, and Jett Burchfield. He also dearly loved his great-grandchildren: Jack, Layton, Raylee Kate, and Abe, and was anxiously awaiting the birth of another granddaughter in April. He is also survived by his brothers, Terry Joe Carter and Kevin Carter; and brother-in-law, Jack Oliver White; as well as a host of loving nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends. James was preceded in death by his daughter, Stefanie Moody Burchfield; father, J. W. Carter; mother and father-in-law, Jack and Gertie White; and sister-in-law, Jeannie Wade.
Serving as pallbearers are Will-Corben Rogers, Landen Rogers, Taylor Moody, Brody Burchfield, Jett Burchfield, Bull Burchfield, and Todd Rogers. Honorary pallbearers are John Albert Young, Ken Mills, Mike Greer, Dale Estes, John Miles, Delver Allen, and his hunting and fishing buddies. Memorials in honor of James may be given to the American Cancer Society.
