Leo Howard

Leo Math Howard, 69, passed away on Saturday, December 17, 2022, at his home with his loving family at his side. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. on Monday, December 19, at Old Path Country Church. Visitation will be the day of the service from 12:00 p.m. until service time at the church. Interment will immediately follow the service in Owens Chapel Cemetery.

Leo was born December 11, 1953, in Winston County, Mississippi, to Leonard “Sam” and Ruth Hight Howard. He enjoyed hunting and fishing until he was no longer able to do so. Leo enjoyed “rambling”—whether it was around the neighborhood to help someone, giving someone a ride to the doctor, or going to auctions. He was retired from the Street Department for the City of Louisville.

He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Susie Sisson Howard; and his three children: Tanya Marie Burton of Louisville; Misty Anne Dempsey and husband, Robert, of McCool, Mississippi; and Jerime Brent Howard and wife, Debbie, also of Louisville. One of his greatest joys was being “Papaw ‘Eo” to his six grandchildren: Donovan Dempsey, Amber Nichole “Nikkie” Howard (Cody Landrum), Carrington Burton, Samuel Dempsey, Isabella Burton, and Kailynn Burton; as well as his two great-grandchildren Louis Glass and Aubrey Jo Landrum. Leo is also survived by his sister, Mary Ruth Howard Kelly of Nacogdoches, TX; and his brother Algene (Cathy) Howard of Kosciusko, Mississippi; in addition to many loving nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Danny, Lee, and Tony Howard; and his sister Lenora Jean Howard.

Serving as pallbearers are Donovan Dempsey, Samuel Dempsey, Jason Howard, Michael Howard, PeeWee Howard, and Cody Landrum. Memorials in honor of Leo may be given to Owens Chapel Cemetery Fund.
