Bobby “Brice” Dempsey, age 84, passed away on Thursday, September 9, 2021, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Brice was born March 7, 1937, in Winston County, Mississippi. He was the youngest of nine children born to William Alvin and Ollie Scott Dempsey. He had numerous jobs over the years but the one he was best known for was being the barber in Weir, Mississippi, for approximately 40 years. He also worked at U. S. Motors in Philadelphia, Mississippi, and drove a school bus for the Louisville School District. Brice loved his grandchildren, hunting with his bird dogs, playing his Gibson guitar while singing country and gospel music; but what he loved most of all was to just plain talk!
He was preceded in death by his daughter Melissa Dempsey, his parents, five sisters: Lena Mae Horton, Lucille Alexander, Janie Goodin, Bernice Alexander, and Earline McCauley, and three brothers: Wesley, Curtis and William Dempsey.
He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years Nancy Dempsey of McCool, two step-daughters Tammy (David) Maycock of Louisville, and Tanya (Beau) Taylor of Steens, Mississippi; five grandsons: Matthew (Noell) Maycock, Russ Taylor, Taylor Maycock, Seth Smith, and Logan Vanderveen, and one granddaughter Laken (Justin) Keller. He also leaves behind eight great-grandchildren as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in honor of Brice may be given to Nowell-Massey Funeral Home to help defray funeral expenses.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 18 at Whitehall Methodist Church with Rev. Mike Dowd officiating. Rest in peace until we meet again…
