Funeral services for Barry Irons will be held Saturday, September 18, 2021 at 2 p.m. at McClain-Hays Chapel with Rev. Chris Young officiating. Burial will follow in Cedarlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held Saturday, September 18, 2021 from 12 noon until service time at McClain-Hays Funeral Home. McClain-Hays Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Irons, 72, of Philadelphia, died Tuesday, September 14, 2021.
Barry was a native of Neshoba County and a longtime resident of Philadelphia. He attended Philadelphia High School, East Central Community College and Mississippi State University. He was elected to East Central Athletic Hall of Fame where he was a standout in football. He formerly worked as a Chief Industrial Engineer with Elger Plumbing Ware in Tupelo and was a former owner of Philadelphia Dry Cleaners from 1994-2012. He loved his family, playing with his granddaughters, coaching for the children’s athletic teams, MSU Bulldogs, church, the coffee club and keeping his yard nice. Mr. Irons was an active member of First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Irons of Philadelphia; children, Jenny Irons (George Hobor) of Maplewood, NJ, Dan Irons (Karen) of Westerville, OH and Mary Margaret Massey (Will) of Louisville, MS; grandchildren, Addy, Lillian, Kate and Savannah; mother, Bobbie Holley of Philadelphia; sister, Kay Duett (Stuart) and Patti Rickles; several nieces, nephews and their families.
Mr. Irons was preceded in death by his father, Vester Irons; step-father, John Holley.
Pallbearers are Burt Turcotte, Trent Rickles, Jamie Rickles, Kyle Stribling, Reid Stribling, Ty Duett and Mark Bowles
Honorary Pallbearers are Sam Nowell, Bill Roasmond, Charles Pair, Art Fulton and John Galberry.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to MD Anderson Cancer Center of Houston, St Jude Children’s Hospital or the charity of your choice.
