Doris Dean Thomas, 82, passed away on Sunday, February 7, 2021, at Oktibbeha County Hospital in Starkville, Mississippi. A private family service will be held on Thursday, February 11 in the Nowell-Massey Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Jerry Allen officiating. Interment will immediately follow the service in Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery in Oktibbeha County. Please follow Covid-19 precautions.
Doris was born July 15, 1938, to Albert and Ruby Dawkins. She was member of New Zion Baptist Church of Weir, Mississippi. Doris enjoyed shopping especially for clothes, shoes, and jewelry; traveling, and watching movies. She also enjoyed gardening as long as her health permitted.
Doris is survived by her daughter Teresa Moore of Starkville, Leonard Harold Thomas, Jr. and wife Christi of Harrison, Arkansas, and Johnny Wayne Thomas also of Starkville. One of her greatest joys was being “Grandma” to her three granddaughters: Kaitlin (Will) Evans,Olivia Thomas, and Lisa (Henryk) Scheibner as well as her four great-grandsons: Brantley Evans, Blake Evans, Rex Thomas, and Leo Scheibner. She is also survived by three brothers Wayne Dawkins, Carroll Dawkins, and Calvin Dawkins and a host of nieces and nephews. Doris was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers Marvin, Leon and Ozell Dawkins, and her half-sister Myrtle Sides.
