Majorie Mayo Lewis



Mrs. Marjorie Mayo Lewis, 89, passed away on Monday, April 14, 2014, at Winston Medical Center in Louisville, Mississippi. Visitation will be Thursday, April 17, 2014, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m., at Nowell-Massey Funeral Home in Louisville. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 18, 2014, at Shiloh Baptist Church with Rev. Jay Murphy officiating. Visitation will also be held the day of the service at the church from 10:30 a.m. until service time. Interment will follow in Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Lewis was born on August 5, 1924, to Meda Arlene Ferguson Mayo and Elihu Mayo. She was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church where she was a dedicated Sunday School teacher for more than 30 years and she was a housewife.

She is survived by three children, George Lewis of Walkill, New York; Arlene Holdiness and husband, Ellis; and David Lewis and wife, Cindy, all of Louisville. She has five grandchildren: Chris Lewis, James Lewis (Theresa), Bill Holdiness (Stephanie), Kenneth Holdiness, and Christie Lewis Presley (Cary). Mrs. Lewis also has seven great-grandchildren: Codie, Sierra, and Madison Lewis; Lydia and Gregory Holdiness; and Carlee and Clayton Presley. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Lewis; her parents; two sisters, Elgie Lee Black and Mary Magdalene Johnson; and two brothers, Albert Cauley Mayo and Cecil Jennings.

Honorary pallbearers are Jimmy Black and Guy Young. Memorials may be given to Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Kay Black, 3942 Shiloh Road, Louisville, MS 39339.
