William J. Kirk, 93, passed away on Tuesday, December 31, 2013, at Winston Medical Center in Louisville, Mississippi. Visitation will be at Nowell-Massey Funeral Home of Louisville on Thursday, January 2, 2014, from 5 p.m. until 6 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, January 3, 2014, at Mt. Hebron Methodist Church with Rev. Gerald Gammill officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Hebron Methodist Church Cemetery.
Mr. Kirk was born June 3, 1920, to Lillie Hubbard Kirk and Clement Thomas Kirk. He was a member of Mt. Hebron Methodist Church and he was retired as a welder from Taylor Machine Works.
He is survived by his daughter, Martha Thornton and husband, Henry, of Clinton, Mississippi. He is also survived by six grandchildren: Susan Evans, Debbie Lysinger (Chris), Jammy Kirk, Michael Kirk, Tiffany Kopfinger (Peter), and Terry Thornton (Stacey); 10 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Elsie Kirk; his son, Bill Kirk and his parents.
Serving as pallbearers are Ed VanDevender, John Holdiness, Christopher Moody, Robert Pearson, Terry Thornton, and Peter Kopfinger. Memorials may be given to American Cancer Society, c/o Penny's From Heaven, 532 East Main Street, Louisville, MS 39339.
