Mr. Jerry Carter, 75, a native of Arkansas who resided in Louisville, MS, passed on Saturday, March 23, 2024, at Winston Medical Center in Louisville, MS. Janet Matthews

We regretfully announce the passing of Janet Mary Matthews of Macon, Mississippi. Janet was born on July 29, 1948 and passed away of March 26, 2024. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday, March 29 at First Pentecostal Church of Noxapater with Rev. Antoine Stokes and Rev. Dwayne Barrett officiating. Visitation will be the day of the service from 12:30 p.m. until service time at the church in Noxapater. Interment will immediately follow the service in Sunrise Cemetery.

Janet was one of a kind. She loved with all she had. She loved to play canasta and spend time with her family. Our family was blessed to have her as our Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Sister, Aunt and Friend. We will never be able to fill the space left behind by her.

Janet was preceded in death by her husband: Henry Matthews Sr.; her sisters; Julia, Joyce, Vernita, and Maxine; her brothers, Steve and Larry; and her granddaughter, Staci Echols. Janet is survived by her sister Loyce; her children, Peggy Hollingsworth (David) of Morton, Mississippi, Linda Goodin (Tracy) of Virginia, Connie Bono (Tony) of Springfield, Louisiana, Ralph Mathews (Terrie) of Sulphur, Louisiana, Kevin Mathews, of Macon, Mississippi and Poncho Mathews of Macon, Mississippi; her grandchildren, April Sills (Roy), Joseph Hillhouse (Amber), Lamar Goodin, Samantha Goodin, Austin Bono, Micaela Bono, Kristen Bono, Ashley Cunningham, Taylor Cormier, and Destiny Ortego; her great grandchildren; Tyler Smith (McKinley), Colby Smith, Kristina Sills, Alyssa Hillhouse, Ryder Hillhouse, Melody Hillhouse, Eli Williams, Asher Ortego, Blaine Campbell, Wyatt Cunningham; and one great-great granddaughter: Kasei Kalla.

Robert E. “Bobby” Clark, Jr.

 Mr. Robert E. “Bobby” Clark, Jr., 90, passed away on Sunday, March 24, 2024, at the Winston County Nursing Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, March 27th, at First Methodist Church, with Rev. Mike Childs officiating.  Visitation will be Wednesday from 10:00 A.M. until service time at the church.    Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Porter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.   

Bobby was born March 1, 1934, in Louisville, MS, to Charlie Mae Garrigues and Robert E. Clark, Sr.  Bobby was a graduate of Louisville High School where he served as student body president and a member of the LHS Hall of Fame.   After attending Mississippi State University for two years he accepted an appointment at the U. S. Military Academy in West Point, NY and graduated in 1958.  Bobby served in the 82d Airborne Division, on the DMZ in Korea, and as an instructor in the Ranger Department of the Infantry School at Fort Benning, GA.  He was assigned to the Americal Division during his tour in Viet Nam.  He returned to instructor status in the Math Department at USMA and finished his military career.

Upon returning to Louisville, the hometown he loved, Bobby was very civic-minded. He served as the director of the Chamber of Commerce, three terms on the Board of Alderman, and one term as Mayor of Louisville.  He served as the southern coordinator of the American Red Cross and a member of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance.  He was a member of the Rotary Club, Gideons, Friends of Legion State Park, American Legion, and a Friends of the Library.  In particular, he loved following the stock market, as he called it his “work”.

He was a faithful member of First Methodist Church, where he served in many leadership positions over the years. He was faithful in his Bible reading and the study of God’s word.  He enjoyed teaching older students Sunday School and challenging them to grow in their faith.  Family was his ultimate joy and to see them accept Christ as their savior.  He loved his wife of 65 years, Sylvia, and all of his brothers, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Bobby was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Charles Garrigues Clark.

He is survived by his wife, Sylvia Duck Clark; a daughter, Camille (Keith) Ball of Madison, MS; a son, George Robert (Gwen) Clark of Noxapater, MS; a brother, Joe (Susan) Clark of Louisville; a sister-in-law, Gerry Clark; nine grandchildren, Mamie Clark (Kyle) Krebs, Carol Anne (Taylor) Bussell, Jackson Clark, Amzi Ball (Ryan) Johnson, Story Ball, Callie Ball, Iris Ball, Watson Ball, and Joshua Ball; and two great grandchildren, Jamison Krebs and Brody Bussell.   

Pallbearers will be Jackson Clark, Watson Ball, Joshua Ball, Kyle Krebs, Sam Clark, Matthew Clark, Ryan Johnson, Taylor Bussell, and Hodgson Bookout.

Tommie Pearl Hamilton

Graveside services for Tommie Pearl Hamilton will be held Saturday, March 23, 2024 at 2 p.m. from Plattsburg Cemetery in Noxapater, MS. with Bro. Dwight Fleming officiating.

Ms. Hamilton, 79, of Choctaw, MS died Wednesday, March 20, 2024.

Tommie was a native of Winston County. She enjoyed traveling, shopping, going to flea markets, watching movies and spending time with her family.

Survivors include her sisters, Hilda Clark (Richard) of Philadelphia and Judy Parker of Noxapater; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Ms. Hamilton is preceded in death by parents, Lloyd and Vinnie Hamilton; sister, Patsy Hamilton; brothers, Terry and Jerry Hamilton.

Peggy Joyce Smith

Mrs. Peggy Joyce Smith, 84, passed away on Saturday, March 23, 2024, at her home in Noxapater, MS. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, March 25th, at Noxapater Baptist Church, with Rev. Trent Jaudon and Dr. Bob Massey officiating. Visitation will be Sunday from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. at Porter Funeral Home, and Monday from 10:00 A.M. until service time at the church. Interment will be in Mt. Carmel Cemetery

Peggy was born April 8, 1939, in Louin, MS, to James Thomas and Frances Smith Greene. She was a graduate of Mathiston High School. She married Therrell Smith on June 8, 1974 and moved to Noxapater. She was the secretary at Noxapater High School for many years, and was a faithful member of Noxapater Baptist Church. Peggy loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, who she adored. She loved to cook and share it with the family. Having played basketball in high school, Peggy was an avid basketball fan and loved to watch and follow her favorite teams.

Peggy was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, John Greene and Jerry Greene.

She is survived by her husband, Therrell Smith of Noxapater; a son, Steve Smith of Gluckstadt, MS; a daughter, Heather (Ryan) Parks of Noxapater; and four grandchildren, Kalie Parks, Canon Parks. Jordan Smith, and Jarrod Smith.

Pallbearers will be Jordan Smith, Canon Parks, Michael Greene, Wil Hudson, Terrell Smith, and Sid Massey.

Roosevelt Porter

Roosevelt Porter, 68, of Philadelphia, MS., formerly of Louisville, MS., passed on Wednesday, March 13, 2024 at his residence. Funeral service will be Saturday, March 23, 2024 at 11 a.m., from Beck Funeral Home. Beck Funeral Home of Louisville in charge of arrangements.

Roosevelt was born to Pearlee Doss and Rosebud "Tug" Porter on Novermber 25, 1955 in Winston County Mississippi. 

Roosevelt was a quiet gentle man. He worked as a handyman most of his life and he enjoyed working outside, especially doing lawn work.

Roosevelt leave to cherish his memory his son, Dewayne Byrd; brother, Jerry "Larry" Porter (Terri Lynn); sisters, Linda Faye Porter, Virginia Haynes and Edna Pearl Goss and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

John Eddie Laine

John Eddie Laine, 65, of Louisville, MS., passed on Tuesday, March 19, 2024 at his residence. Funeral Service will be Saturday, March 30, 2024 at 11 a.m., from Harper Chapel M. B. John was born September 6, 1958 to the parents of Tommie Laine and Elizabeth Orr in Winston County Mississippi.

John is survived by his wife, Sallie Laine; children, Jackie(Vontreal) Hunt and Jasmine Laine (Laterrious Arteberry); 4 grands; brothers, Smith Ingram and Willie (Sherrie) Laine: sister, Nannie Sherrod, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends. 

Jeri McAdory

Janice “Jeri” McAdory, 91, passed away on Thursday, March 21, 2024, at her home in Louisville, Mississippi, with her loving family at her side. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, March 23 at Antioch Baptist Church with Bro. Billy Conn officiating. Visitation will be the day of the service from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the church in Louisville. Interment will immediately follow the service in Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery.

Jeri was born in Winston County, Mississippi, to Henry Cleve and Ila Triplett White on March 24, 1932. She attended Louisville Church of Christ and was a member of the Eastern Star. Jeri enjoyed being with people whether they were her family, close friends, church family or her Wal-Mart work family. After 30 years of service, she retired from Wal-Mart. She also enjoyed her cats.

Jeri is survived by her children, Vicki McAdory of Louisville, and Paul McAdory of Purvis, Mississippi; and her closest friend and neighbor, Dianne Mills also of Louisville. One of her greatest joys was being “Momeo” to her five grandchildren: Debbie Fries, Sandy Guy, Deresa (Mike) Sanders, Winnie (Jack) Smith, and Vickie (Mark) Bounds; her 15 great-grandchildren; and her 21 great-great-grandchildren. Jeri is preceded in death by her husband, Charles McAdory; son, Mark McAdory; daughter-in-law, Edee McAdory; and grandsons-in-law, George Fries and Ray Guy.

Angela Lucile Reynolds Spears

Funeral services for Angela Lucile Reynolds Spears were held Sunday, March 17, 2024 at 3 p.m. from McClain-Hays Chapel with Rev. Barry Walker officiating. Burial followed in Mt. Pisgah Cemetery of Noxapater. Visitation was held Saturday, March 16, 2024 from 5 until 8 p.m.at McClain-Hays Chapel.

Mrs. Spears, 49, of Philadelphia died March 15, 2024.

Angela was a native and longtime resident of Neshoba County. She was a graduate of Noxapater High School class of 1993, and ECCC in 1995 with an Associate Degree, MSU in 1999 with her Bachelor’s Degree and acquired her Master’s Degree a few years later. Angela taught for 22 years at Neshoba Central High School until she retired in 2021. She loved gardening, painting, and doing Arts & Crafts and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Mrs. Spears was a member of West Philadelphia Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Hilton Spears of Philadelphia; sisters, Deana Reynolds Cumberland of Philadelphia and Beverly Reynolds Clay (Tyson) of Scooba; step-daughter, Brookes Hardin (Mutt) of Philadelphia; step-son, Jay Spears (Becky) of Philadelphia; father, Billy Reynolds of Philadelphia; grandchildren, Maggie and R.B. Hardin, Dylan, Logan and Sarah Spears; nieces and nephews, Samantha Lucile West, Cynthia (C.C.) Cumberland and Brody Clay.

LaQuonda Marsha Kirkwood

LaQuonda Marsha Kirkwood 43, was born to the parents of George Miller and Lottie Mae White on March 7, 1981 in Hinds County Mississippi. LaQuonda, passed on Monday, March 11, 2024 at the University of Alabama Birmingham, Birmingham, AL. 

She leaves to mourn her passing; husband, Keith Kirkwood; children, Markeis (Tonk) Jackson, Markevius (Toont) Jackson and LaKira Jackson; siblings, Shirley White, Kanisha White(John) Jones, Chris White, LaKendrick Vaughn, Tori Colter, Brittany Loving; Step-Children, Keyonna Kirkwood, Keyondra Kirkwood, Kei'Asya Kirkwood and Christian Brown; grandchild, Kazleigh Jackson; Father, George (Ella) Miller; grandparents, Jessie Mae McGowan; in-laws, Betty Purnell and Ricky Ferguson; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.

Linda Nell Edmonds

Ms. Linda Nell Edmonds, 60, passed away Monday, March 11, 2024, at UMMC in Jackson, MS. She lived most of her life in Neshoba County where she was a homemaker. She was Baptist by Faith, and her hobbies were flowers and doing crafts.

Ms. Edmonds is preceded in death by her husband, Michael Edmonds; parents, James David Pierce and Willie Smith Pierce; son, Jerry Wayne Collins Jr.; brother, James Lee Pierce.

Survivors include daughter, Brittany Rowell of Sebastopol; sisters, Martha Anding of Union, Brenda McNeil of Coal Bluff, Norma Compton of Noxapater; (4) grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

James Hanna

James Vernon Hanna, 83, passed away on Wednesday, March 13, 2024, at University of Mississippi Medical Center with his wife, Barbara, at his side. Services will be Saturday, March 16 at 3 p.m. in the Nowell-Massey Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Andrew Hanna officiating. Visitation will also be the day of the service from 1 p.m. until service time at Nowell-Massey Funeral Home in Louisville. Interment will immediately follow the service in Louisville Memorial Cemetery.

James was born in Noxapater, Mississippi, to Conner and Evelyn Hanna on July 19, 1940. The family later moved to the Rocky Hill community in Winston County, where he attended elementary school at Rocky Hill School and met his lifelong friend Ronnie Woodruff. He attended Louisville High School and graduated from Nanih Waiya High School.

After marrying his wife, Barbara Callaway Hanna, and welcoming their son, Russell James Hanna, he started his long career in law enforcement. He attended Mississippi Law Enforcement Training Center in 1966 and served Mississippi as a State Trooper in Union, Mississippi, until he retired as a Master Sergeant in 1991. He was then elected to serve as Newton County Sheriff from 1992-1996. After his retirement, he and Barbara moved back to the Rocky Hill community to help care for his elderly parents. In addition to being an excellent law enforcement officer, James was a loving husband—who thought he was the luckiest man alive to have Barbara— a loving, caring father to Rusty, grandfather to Andrew, and great-grandfather to James Duke and Judah. He loved his family dearly and was so very proud of their every achievement. James was a faithful member of Enon Baptist Church, where he served the Lord after his move from Union. In addition, he was an avid sportsman, who loved deer hunting, especially with Rusty. He was also an excellent cook, who loved preparing the meat from his hunts. For many years, he hosted his church and his community to New Year’s Eve in his shop. James cooked the deer meat and his famous ribs, and everyone enjoyed a night of playing games, such as dominoes, and eating delicious food. He and Barbara also enjoyed traveling, and they spent many years traveling both on their motorcycle and in their motor home. They traveled all over the United States, but they always loved the Smokey Mountains best.

James is survived by his wife, Barbara; son, Rusty (Lanette); grandson, Andrew (Mary Margaret); and great-grandsons, James Duke and Judah. He is also survived by his sisters, Barbara A. Hanna of Louisville and Kathy Johnson of Noxapater; brothers-in-law, Ricky (Rita) Callaway of Pearl and Winfred Keen of Union; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends whom he loved dearly. He is preceded in death by his parents, Conner and Evelyn Hanna; his sister-in-law, Dot Keen of Union; and his brothers-in-law, W. C. Callaway of Tennessee and Randall Johnson of Noxapater.

Diana Gayle Breland Busby

Diana Gayle Breland Busby of Mathiston, MS, passed away on Monday, March 11, 2024, at her residence near Mathiston, MS. Gayle was born on February 15, 1947 in Mississippi to Orville E. and Metree (Reed) Breland. She was 77 years old. Gayle was a homemaker. She attended First Baptist Church of Mathiston, MS.

Memorial services will be held for Gayle at Fellowship Baptist Church in Mathiston, MS on Saturday, March 16, 2024 at 11:00 AM, with Bro. Todd Chesser officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the service beginning at 10:00 AM.

Gayle is survived by her husband, Walton “Demar” Busby of Mathiston, MS; two sons, Steve Busby of Mathiston, MS and Rodney Busby of Arab, AL; two daughters, Penny Doss of Grenada, MS and Sallie Bevels of Houston, MS; and four sisters, Peggy Easley of Mathiston, MS, Jennie Cooper and Tommie Vance of Eupora, MS, and Bobbie Dewberry of Louisville, MS. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Orville E. and Metree Breland.

Jacqueline “Jackie” Holman

 

Jacqueline “Jackie” Holman passed away on Saturday, March 9, 2024, at her home surrounded by loved ones. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday, March 11 at Nowell-Massey Funeral Home in Louisville, Mississippi. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 12 in the Nowell-Massey Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Trent Jaudon and Reverend Jay Murphy officiating. Interment will immediately follow the service in Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery.

Jackie was born February 20, 1966, to Jack and Idell Oglesby in Winston County. She was a member of South Louisville Baptist Church. Jackie worked for Nowell Funeral Home before she went on to work for Tyson for 20 years. She enjoyed gardening and planting beautiful flowers that attracted butterflies and hummingbirds. Birthdays and holidays were always very important to her and she always went above and beyond when a loved one’s birthday rolled around. She loved spending time with family and friends. Her greatest accomplishment was being a mom to her four girls and “Gigi” to her five grandchildren. From 2015 to 2023, Jackie won first place at Tyson and won numerous awards for her outstanding hard work. Jackie had the biggest heart and the most beautiful smile. She was loved by many.

Jackie is survived by her four daughters: Ericka Doby (Chris Auglair) of Sylacauga, Alabama; Jordan Sullivan, Morgan Sullivan (Ben Barrett) and Lexie Holman; and her father, Jackie Oglesby all of Louisville. One of her greatest joys was being “Gigi” to her five grandchildren: Presley Dill, Logan Harper, Mamie Jewel Phillips, Nathan Auglair, and Jack Allen Sullivan. She also leaves behind two sisters, Jan Hollister and husband, Dr. Jack Hollister, of Starkville, Mississippi; Tracy Reynolds Walker and husband, Wenton, of Madison, Mississippi; and Johnny Sullivan; as well as a host of loving nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends. She was preceded in death by her mother, Idell Oglesby.

Serving as pallbearers are Steve Allen, Todd Allen, Randy Lewis, Al Massey, Allen Young, and John Albert Young. Mary Elaine Kujala Sanders

Mrs. Mary Elaine Kujala Sanders, 82, passed away on Friday, March 8, 2024, at her daughter’s home in Louisville. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Sunday, March 10th, at Porter Funeral Home, with Rev. David Keen officiating. Mary was born February 17, 1942, in Chicago, IL. She was employed by TRW Industry for many years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Sanders; and her parents, Fay and John Kujala.

She is survived by her daughters, Lindey (Sammy) Hill, Lori (Stefan) Black, both of Louisville, Lesley Robertson of Covington, TX, and Lisa (Nick) Schutz of Mundelein, IL a sister, Joan Brewer of Travers city, Mich; two brothers, John K. Kujala of Mundelein, IL, and James Kujala of Spooner, WI; seven grandchildren, Kendall Kompass (Kyle) , Jillian Schutz, Samantha (Matt) Sanders, Randall Robertson (Codi), Joelie (Matt) Mitchell, Bobby Robertson, and Curry Black and three great grandchildren, Lucas Mitchell, Rowen Robertson, and Conner Sanders.

Marty Wayne Henson

Marty Wayne Henson, of Weir, MS, passed away on Friday, March 8, 2024, at his residence in Weir, MS. Martywas born on April 30, 1964, in Ackerman, MS, to Paul Wayne and Myra A. (Simpson) Henson. He was 59 years old. Marty was employed by TMA until health issues forced him to retire.

Memorial graveside services will be held at New Haven Cemetery near Weir, MS, on Friday, March 15, 2024 at 11:00 a.m., with Allen Simpson officiating. Visitation will be held prior to service time starting at 10:00 a.m. in the New Haven Baptist Church. Burial will follow at New Haven Cemetery.

Marty is survived by 1 son, Tyler Henson of Weir, MS; 1 sister, Gay and husband, Wayne Magee.

Annie C. Lagrone

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Travis O'Neal Lagrone; sisters, May June Walker and May Lee Parker; brothers, Bennie Earl Walker and Tommy Earl Walker.

Annie leaves to cherish her memory her devoted husband, Walter Lagrone; her children, Contina R. Walker and Latasha Hoskins both of Columbus, MS., Justin R. Lagrone of Starkville, MS. and Nathan A. Jerry Cornelius Nunn, 34, of Louisville, MS, passed on Wednesday, March 6, 2024 at his home. Jerry, is the son of Jerry Nunn and Georgie Hickman Walker. Funeral service will be Monday, March 11, 2024 at 12 p.m., from Pilgrim Rest M. B. Church, Louisville, MS. Visitation will be Sunday, March 10, 2024 from 4 until 6 p.m., from the Funeral Home. Margie Robertson Gully

Mrs. Margie Robertson Gully, 92, passed away on Friday, March 8, 2024, in Bentonville, Arkansas. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, March 11th, at Vernon Assembly of God Church, with Rev. Eugene Duran officiating. Visitation will be Monday from 10:00 A.M. until service time at the church. Interment will be in Vernon Assembly of God Cemetery. Porter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Margie was born on February 3, 1932, in Louisville, MS, to Wilbur Euin and Vera Ethel Stokes Robertson. She married Grady Edward Gully on February 5, 1949, Louisville, MS. Margie loved the Lord. She spent time praying and in His Word every day. Crocheting afghans was her loved language and she made them for all the people she loved. Her door was always open and you were always greeted with love, hugs, and a big bowl of Mamas’s Rice. Family was her whole heart.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her siblings, Willie Robertson (Pearl), Herman Robertson (Frances), Floyd Robertson, (Gloria), Steven Robertson, Harold Robertson, Mavis Robert Hanna (Kenneth), and Marion Robertson Bateman (James Paul); a sister-in-law, Mary Alice Robertson; a son-in-law, Roy Louis Thomasson; and three grandchildren, Carrie Lynette Gully Byrd, Chad Edward Gully, and Gregory Miller Vantine.

She is survived by her children, Donald Ray Gully (Donna), Mary Juanita Gully Thomasson, and Randall Edward Gully (Diane); her siblings, Wilbur Euin "Junior" Robertson, Paul Barron "Bob" Robertson, and Maxine Robertson; her grandchildren, Robert Louis Thomasson (Missy), Kevin Edward Thomasson, Sonja Renee` Thomasson Neuschwanger (David), Michael Shaddox Gully (Jody), Jared Randall Gully (Nakia), Jordin Leigh Gully, Caleb Edward Gully and Joey Denise Gall (Joe); 44 Great Grandchildren; 9 Great-great Grandchildren, 24 Nieces & Nephews; and numerous great nieces and nephews.
