Larry "Snapper" Gregory

 Mr. David Larry “Snapper” Gregory, 80, passed away on Wednesday, June 2, 2021, at Winston Medical Center in Louisville, MS. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, June 5th, at Harmony Baptist Church, with Rev. Jerry Lundy and Rev. Chris Vowell officiating. Interment will be in Harmony Baptist Cemetery. There will be no public visitation. Porter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

“Snapper” was born May 15, 1941, in Winston County, MS, to Curtis Alewine Gregory and David Hugh Gregory. He was a member of Harmony Baptist Church. He was a graduate of French Camp Academy, and he retired from Georgia Pacific where he was a shipping supervisor. Mr. Gregory served as a Justice Court Judge for 8 years in District 2, and East Post Constable for 4 years. “Snapper” proudly served his country in the Army National Guard. He also spent some time working for Elvis Presley in Memphis, TN.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Joyce Eubanks, Louise Gregory, and Fay Harville; one brother, John Gregory, and his brothers-in-law, Clyde Eubanks and Jay Harville.

He is survived by his wife, Dianne Quinn Gregory of Louisville; his son, David Scott Gregory of Louisville; his granddaughter, Anna Faith Gregory of Louisville; his grandson, David Jace Perry Gregory of Louisville; one sister, Eleanor Gregory Fordyce of Byhalia, MS; one sister-in-law, Nancy Quinn of Louisville; and brother-in-law, Billy Quinn 0f Louisville.

Pallbearers will be Paul McKinney, Greg Davis, Chris Quinn, Tim Hunt, Chuck Quinn, Jacob Ingram, and Rusty Hanna.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Sta-Home Hospice, or the Harmony Baptist Cemetery Fund.

Jacqueline Johnson, 60, of McCool, Mississippi, passed on Friday, May 28, 2021, at her home. Graveside Service will be Saturday, June 5, 2021, at 11 a.m., from Mount Nebo United Methodist Church Cemetery, McCool, MS. Visitation will be Friday, from 4 until 6 p.m., from the Funeral Home. 

Mrs. Johnson was born May 20, 1961, to the Parents of Son Bridges and Earnesteen Johnson in Saint Louis, MO. 

She is survived by, Daughters; Jamesha Johnson and Kalesha Johnson both of McCool, MS., One Grandchild, Siblings; Rena Smith, Gwendolyn Coffey, Micheal Smith and Laura Gibbs all of McCool, MS., Larry Johnson(Helen), of Rochester, NY., and Carl Smith of Starkville, MS. Judy Eaves Moore

Judy Eaves Moore, 77, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 30, 2021, at the Dogwood Cottage at Winston Medical Center in Louisville, Mississippi. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday, June 4 in the Nowell-Massey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Michael Wells officiating. Visitation will be the day of the service from 12:30 p.m. until service time at the funeral home. Interment will immediately follow the service at Ellison Ridge Cemetery.

Judy was born September 4, 1943, to Troy and Alice Clay Eaves in Winston County, Mississippi. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Louisville. She held various positions at different businesses but her longest tenure was bookkeeping and secretarial duties along with her husband in their construction business. Judy was faithful to read her Bible each day and she enjoyed shopping; but most of all her favorite activity was spending time with her family.

Judy is survived by her daughters Susan Moody and Shannon Holdiness both of Louisville. One of her greatest joys was being “MaMaw” to her six grandchildren: Christopher Moody, Dylan Moody, Katie Holdiness, Chelsea Holdiness, Kyle (Holley) Holdiness, and Lizzie Holdiness. Additionally, she also enjoyed her six great-grandchildren: Nich Holdiness, Luke Holdiness, Jacob Moody, Wesley Holdiness, Kylie Brooke Holdiness, and Harper Elaine Peterson. Judy is also survived by her brother Ray Tingle of New Orleans, Louisiana; her sister-in-law Rhonda Tingle, and special cousins Sarah Eaves, Cindy Ward and Shirley White, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Henry Moody Moore, her parents, her brother Robbie Tingle, her aunt Doris Ward, and her son-in-law Woody Moody.

Serving as pallbearers are Wade Blaine, Robert “Chico” Holdiness, Jamie McMillan, Joseph “Bub” Miller, Johnny Sullivan, and Randy Sullivan. Mildred Young Calvert

Mrs. Mildred Calvert, 93, passed away on Friday, May 28, 2021, at her home in Louisville. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 P.M. on Tuesday, June 1st, at Porter Funeral Home, with Dr. Heath Hillman and Rev. Mark Mayo officiating. Mildred was born in Neshoba County where she worked as a dental hygienist for Dr. D.P. Jordan until she married Jim Calvert. They resided in Louisville, MS, and she was a wonderful homemaker. To know Mildred was to know a person who loved God unconditionally. She was a person of great faith, a prayer warrior, a wonderful friend and Mother not only to her two children, but to many. Her home was a welcoming haven to anyone. Her doors and heart were always open.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James “Jim” Calvert; her parents, Mary Elizabeth and James Monroe Young; two sisters, Mary Bane and Maurine Morgan; and three brothers, Simon T. Young, Fulton Young, and J. M. Young.

Mildred is survived by her children, Kim and Jeff McMinn, and David and Jennifer Calvert; her grandchildren, Landon and AJ McMinn, Peyton and David McAdory, Gavin Calvert, and Blake and Brittany McMinn; her great grandchildren, Swayze, Eliza, Kate, Aidan, and Axel McMinn; her nieces, Jan (Jim) Lemcke, Judy (Jerry) Carver, Patty (Dereck) Pace, Kaye (Darwin) Jorden, Lisa (Robert) Hunter and Donna Means; her nephews, Mike Calvert, Speedy (Jamie) Calvert, Thomas Young, Richard (Allison) Young, Barry Young, Joe (Linda) Christian, Fulton (Patricia) Young, Sidney (Deanie) Young, and numerous great nieces, nephews and cousins.

Calista Nesbit Pitt

Calista Nesbit Pitt, 75, passed away on Thursday, May 27, 2021, at Winston Medical Center in Louisville, Mississippi. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, May 29 at First Apostolic Church of Louisville with Rev. Glynn Barker officiating. Visitation will be the day of the service from 9:00 a.m. until service time at the church. Interment will immediately follow the service at Memorial Cemetery in Louisville.

Calista was born July 16, 1945, to Floyd Ross and Emma Katherine Griffis Nesbit in Durant, Mississippi. She was a member of First Apostolic Church of Louisville. After graduating high school, she attended the University of Mississippi Medical Center graduating with a degree in nursing. For approximately 40 years, she served her community as a nurse at the Winston County Nursing Home. Calista enjoyed crocheting and each grandchild has a blanket made by her loving hands as well as other treasures she made. She was faithful to read and study her Bible daily. Calista also enjoyed cooking for her family for she dearly treasured her family. She loved people and could always find something to laugh about.

Calista is survived by her children: Chelly Phillips and husband James, William “Nes” Pitt, and Christopher “Chris” Pitt all of Louisville. One of her greatest joys was being “MawMaw” to her 13 grandchildren: KaDee Snow, Johnie Snow, Jordan Hailey, Will Pitt, Colby Pitt, Brooklyn Pitt, Kayla Pitt, Gunner Pitt, Cooper Pitt, Jacob Pitt, McKenzie Pitt, Stella Williamson, and Cali Pitt. Additionally, she had seven great-grandchildren: Braxton Miller, Madden Snow, Logan Rhodes, Ryder Wyatt, Collin Snow, Emma June Hailey, and Bentley Jax Hailey. She is also survived by her brother Ross (Kathy) Nesbit of Sartartia, Mississippi, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. Calista was preceded in death by her daughter Holly M. Pitt, her parents, her brother Johnnie Nesbit, and her sister-in-law Donna Nesbit Williams.

Carolyn Haggard

Virginia Carolyn Haggard, 89, of Noxapater, Mississippi, passed away on Monday, May 24, 2021, at Winston Medical Center in Louisville, Mississippi, after complications due to a brief illness. Funeral services will be 4 p.m. Thursday, May 27 at Noxapater Baptist Church with Rev. Chris Vowell officiating. Visitation will be the day of the service from 2:30 p.m. until service time at the church. Interment will immediately follow the service at Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Noxapater.

Carolyn was born October 27, 1931, to Irvin and Nannie Lou Ellis McBrayer in Winston County, Mississippi. She graduated from Noxapater High School and went on to earn a degree at East Central Junior College in Decatur, Mississippi. Following college, she worked as a secretary at U. S. Motors in Philadelphia, Mississippi, for 10 years and for the postal service in Noxapater for over 20 years. She was a longtime member of Noxapater Baptist Church.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents Irvin and Nannie McBrayer, her husband Billy Louis Haggard, her infant daughter Sharon Dawn, and her brother Joe Irvin McBrayer. She is survived by her sister Martha Jean Burrage and her two children Rick (Evie) Haggard and Lisa (Lamar) Horne. She also leaves behind four grandchildren: Ryan (Julie) Haggard, Kyle (Kristen) Haggard, Brody Horne, and Colton (Caitlin) Horne and three great-grandchildren: Summer, Elijah, and Hayley. Carolyn is also survived by her sisters-in-law: Sarah Ballard, Nancy Haggard, Patty Jones, Martha Ann McBrayer, and Betty Haggard Parker.

Lori Ellingburg

Mrs. Ellingburg, 53, of Philadelphia, died Friday, May 21, 2021.

She was a native and lifelong resident of Neshoba County and graduated in 1985 from Neshoba Central High School. She worked as an assistant teacher at Neshoba Central Elementary School for several years. She enjoyed crafts and loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Mrs. Ellingburg was a member of Ocobla Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband of 33 years, Frankie Ellingburg; daughters, Britney Kirkland (Nathan), Bethney Thames (Ben); son, Heath Ellingburg (Savanna), all of Philadelphia; grandchildren, Taylor Kirkland, Caleb Thames, Karsyn Kirkland, Reid Thames, Maddox Kirkland, Addie, Annie, and Conner Ellingburg; mother and stepfather, Sarah and Paul Freeman of Philadelphia; sisters, Janet Joiner of Philadelphia, Rhonda Drury of Noxapater; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Preceding Mrs. Ellingburg in death was her father, Mickey Warren.

Lawrence "Roy" Black, Jr.

Lawrence Leroy “Roy” Black, Jr., 72, passed away on Saturday, May 22, 2021, at Winston Medical Center in Louisville, Mississippi. Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Monday, May 24 in the Nowell-Massey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Keen and Rev. Michael Wells officiating. Visitation will be the day of the service from 2 p.m. until service time at Nowell-Massey Funeral Home. Interment will immediately follow the service at Rural Hill Cemetery in Louisville.

Roy was born October 19, 1948, to Lawrence Black, Sr. and Ellen Mary Wells Black. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church where he enjoyed going to church. Roy loved people and enjoyed “carrying on jabber” with them which made him a well-known man. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting and hauling junk. He enjoyed gardening growing vegetables to share with friends. “He was a good man who meant well; he was just “set” in his ways.”

Roy is survived by his sister Mary Jane Young and a special friend Gladys Kirk both of Louisville. He also leaves behind four nieces: Rachel (Chris) Sullivan, Sandra (Richard) Lee, Paula (Larry) Hemphill, and Janette Conn; and his nephew David Conn. Roy is survived by a host of great-nieces and great-great nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, and two sisters Ellen Conn and Faye Black.

Serving as pallbearers are Larry Cockrell, Kenny Kuhn, Mitch Sanders, Edward Stokes, Kenny Wright, and Ricky Wright. Honorary pallbearers are Dewane Carr, Shug Glass, and Steve Jernigan.

Joe Fish

Joe Fish died in the early morning of May 21, 2021. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 28 in the Nowell-Massey Funeral Home Chapel in Louisville, Mississippi, with Rev. Heath Hillman officiating. Visitation will be the day of the service from 10 a.m. until service time at Nowell-Massey Funeral Home. Interment will immediately follow the service in Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Juanita Baker Fish. He is survived by his daughter, Marcia Tipton and her husband, Rick, son Herb and his wife, Elaine, and son Tim and his wife, Deborah. He had six grandchildren, Sara Tipton Johnson and husband Brian, Ben Tipton and wife, Samantha, Michael Fish, Dylan Fish, Griffin Fish, and Diane Fish. He had three great-grandchildren, Garrett Johnson, Margo Tipton, and Beck Tipton.

Joe was a devoted Christian who served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher over the years. He regretted being unable to attend his Church during the past year.

Over the course of his career as an electrical engineer, Joe lived in Tennessee, Florida, Alabama, and New Jersey. He participated in the development of some of the first unmanned rockets that were launched from Cape Canaveral, Florida. He earned a United States patent in 1984, a proud accomplishment.

In retirement, he lived in Knoxville, Tennessee and for the past fourteen years in Dawsonville, Georgia. In the past few years, Joe enjoyed visiting with family and talking on the telephone with his long-time friend, Mildred Wright of Knoxville, Tennessee. He enjoyed going to church, taking scenic drives, and viewing the mountains from a rocker on his front porch. He followed the news and sports on television, especially basketball. He remained a fan of Mississippi State, his Alma Mater, and the University of Tennessee. He enjoyed dining out, especially at Chick-Fil-A and Longhorn’s Steakhouse, which has become a family tradition.

Kimberly Renee Starnes Navas

Kimberly Renee(Starnes)Navas of Sturgis,MS, passed away Monday, May 17, 2021, at Oktibbeha County Hospital in Starkville, MS. Kimberly was born January 1, 1991, in Oktibbeha County, MS, to Alan Starnes and Lori(Baswell) Hickman. She was 30 years old, and was a homemaker.

Funereal services will be held on Monday, May 24, 2021, 1:00 p.m., at Coleman Funeral Home in Ackerman, MS, with Rev. Danny Irvin officiating. Burial will follow at McClelland Cemetery in Sturgis, MS. Visitation will be held from 12:00 noon till service time at the funeral home.

Kimberly is survived by 2 sons, Damian Dexter Poole, Jasper Cole Poole; 1 daughter, Layla Marie Gonzales; and 1 sister, Crystal Grace Hickman.

Kimberly is preceded in death by maternal grandmother, Mary Maxiane Baswell; maternal grandfather, Joe Baswell; and paternal grandfather, Joe Allen Starnes.

Carol Yvonne Robinson

Carol Yvonne Robinson, 75, passed away on Thursday, May 20, 2021, at Neshoba General Nursing Home, in Philadelphia, MS. Carol was born March 15, 1946, in Choctaw County, MS, to Royce and Pernell(Collins) Swindle. She was a wife and homemaker.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 25, 2021, 3:00 p.m., at South Union Methodist Arbor. Burial will follow in the South Union Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1:00 till service time at Coleman Funeral Home.

Carol is survived by 1 son, Matthew Robinson of Vevay, IN; 1 daughter, Jennifer McCall of Ackerman, MS; 2 brothers, Billy Swindle of Ackerman, MS, Gene Swindle of Sturgis, MS; 1 sister, Gaye Swindle of Sturgis, MS; 4 grandchildren, Austin and Ethan McCall, Aubree & Raelynn Robinson, and 1 great-grandchild expected in August of this year.

Carol is preceded in death by her husband, Terry Robinson, her parents, Royce and Pernell(Collins) Swindle, and 2 brothers, Larry and Mark Swindle.

Johnny Milton Holton

Mr. Johnny Milton Holton, 53, passed away on Saturday, May 15, 2021, in Meridian, MS. He was born January 30, 1968, in Winston County. He was a graduate of Nanih Waiya High School and was employed with Lowe’s in Starkville. He was of the Catholic faith.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Murry and Darlene Holton; a brother, Nelson Holton; and a nephew, John Collier, III.

He is survived by his sisters, Reba (Johnny) Collier and Sherry Russell, both of Louisville; a niece, Heather Russell; and a great niece, Jadyn Collier.

A family memorial service will be held at a later date. Porter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Matthew D. Eaves

Matthew Dunbar Eaves, 45, passed away on May 17, 2021 at Ochsners’ Medical Center in New Orleans, Louisiana from a massive stroke and heart attack. Visitation will be at 3:00 o’clock Sunday, May 23 at Nowell-Massey Funeral Home. Graveside services will follow at 4:00 o’clock at Memorial Cemetery in Louisville, MS with the Reverend Tommy Shields and Chaplain Jeff Pate officiating.

Matthew Dunbar Eaves was born on May 27, 1975 at Northside Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia to Ronnie Eaves and Judy Gordon Eaves Harper. He developed a love for reading from his early education at Grace Christian School in Louisville where he attended from kindergarten through the fourth grade. His high school years were spent at Florence High School in Florence, MS where he participated in football, baseball and track. After graduation Matt attended Hinds Community College.

For much of his adult years Matt lived in New Orleans, Louisiana and most recently was employed by Crescent City Security and Consulting LLC. His primary responsibilities included providing security for movie and tv sets like NCIS New Orleans.

Matt attended Canal Street Church in New Orleans. He loved New Orleans, especially close relationships with dear friends including those he knew through Community Group activities.

Matt is survived by his son Landon Eaves, Diana, Tx. He is also survived by his father Ronnie and Lou Eaves, Hattiesburg, MS. His mother Judy Harper, Ridgeland, MS. Matt’s siblings: Gordon and Dr. Christine Barringer Eaves and niece Grace, Bella Vista, Arkansas; Jason and Kelly Eaves and nephew Jadon, Hattiesburg, MS; his sister Andra’s children Justin Burham, Philadelphia,MS and Michael Burnham , Louisville MS.

Matt is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Randolph and Zellene Eaves; His maternal grandparents Hugh and Mamie Gordon; and his sister Casandra “Andra” Mechelle Eaves.
