Leonard Harold Thomas, Sr.
Mr. Thomas was born August 14, 1932 to Arthur and Katie Chandler Thomas. He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church, and he worked as a farmer and enjoyed working with wood.
Mr. Thomas is survived by his daughter, Teresa Thomas, and two sons, Leonard Harold Thomas, Jr., and Johnny Wayne Thomas. He is also survived by two sisters, Marie Eaton and Evelyn Baxter, and three brothers, Don Thomas, William “Bill” Thomas and Arthur “Buddy” Thomas. Mr. Thomas also has three grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He is preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Katie Chandler Thomas.

William "Dib" Dempsey
Mr. Dempsey was born July 14, 1931, and was retired as a pup wood hauler.
He is survived by seven sisters: Geraldine Dempsey, Virginia Stanley, Louise Dempsey, Pauline Dempsey and Dorothy Stevenson all of Louisville, Mississippi; Charlene Triplett of Noxapater, Mississippi; and Janice McBeth of Carthage, Mississippi; a brother, Harold Dempsey of Ackerman, Mississippi, and a host of nieces and nephews. Mr. Dempsey is preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Jessie Tharp Dempsey; his brother, Jack Dempsey; and a sister, Katie Crossland.
Pallbearers will be Jamie Dempsey, Robert Strickland, Henry Strickland, Stacey Littrell, Brian Stevenson, and Willie Earl Stevenson. Memorials may be made to your favorite charity. Hayward Watts
Mr. Hayward Noel Watts, 79, of McCool, Mississippi, passed away on Friday, October 14, 2011, at Winston Medical Center Nursing Home in Louisville, Mississippi. Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 15, 2011, at Nowell-Massey Funeral Home from 5 p.m .until 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, October 16, 2011, at Nowell-Massey Funeral Home Chapel in Louisville, Mississippi, with Rev. Stacy Parvin officiating. Interment will be in Rural Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Mr. Watts was born November 26, 1931, to Noel Elias and Essel Shumaker Watts. He was a member of Rural Hill United Methodist Church and a contractor in Houston, Texas, for over 45 years. Mr. Watts is survived by two daughters, Nancy Humplik and husband, Johnny, and Starlet Meadows and husband, Russell; and by his son, Robert Watts, all of Houston, Texas. He is also survived by two sisters, Clyde Dean Greene of Louisville, Mississippi, and Dorcy Lawrence and husband, Henry, of Zama, Mississippi; two brothers, Jimmy Ted Watts and Allen Watts and wife, Sissie, all of Louisville; as well as three grandchildren, Brandon Meadows, Jeffrey Watts, and Jerry Watts, Jr. He is preceded in death by his parents, Noel Elias and Essel Shumaker Watts; two sons, Jerry Watts and Mark Watts; and a brother, Wade Watts.Memorials may be made to the Rural Hill Cemetery Fund. Charlotte Hall Whitten
Mrs. Charlotte Hall Whitten, 85, passed away on Tuesday, October 11, 2011, at Winston Medical Center Nursing Home in Louisville, Mississippi. Visitation will be at Nowell-Massey Funeral Home in Louisville, Mississippi, on Thursday, October 13, 2011, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 14, 2011, at Nowell-Massey Funeral Home Chapel in Louisville, Mississippi. Mrs. Whitten was born December 12, 1925, to Alta and Bertha Ray Hall. She was a member of Gum Branch Baptist Church for 32 years, and she was a homemaker.
Mrs. Whitten is survived by her brother, George Hall; her brother-in-law, Travis Whitten and wife, Kate; and her nephew, Allen Ray Hall, all of Louisville, Mississippi. She is preceded in death by her husband, James B. Whitten; her parents, Alta and Bertha Ray Hall; and her brother, Orval Hall.

Geraldine Butts
Mrs. Geraldine Butts, 90, of Preston, Mississippi, passed away on Tuesday, October 10, 2011, at Anderson Regional Medical Center in Meridian, Mississippi. Graveside services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, October 18, 2011, at Hailey-Richey Cemetery in Kemper County with Rev. Allen Eaves officiating.
Mrs. Butts was born January 10, 1921, to George M. and Lillian Ethel Wade Bates. She was a member of Ebenezer Pentecostal Church. Mrs. Butts served in the United States Navy during World War II. In 1971, she graduated with a master's degree from the University of Alabama and later taught at the Mississippi School for the Deaf.
Mrs. Butts is survived by two brothers, George W. Bates and wife, Sally, and Frank Bates and wife, Freda, all of Birmingham, Alabama. She is preceded in death by her parents, George M. and Lillian Ethel Wade Bates.

Mr. Pharris Lee “Jack” Cockrell, 80, died Friday, October 7, 2011, at his home in Louisville. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Sunday, October 9th, at Porter Funeral Home, with Rev. Mason Joy officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday at 1:00 P.M. until service time at Porter Funeral Home.
Mr. Cockrell was born in November 29, 1930, in Louisville, MS. He was retired from the lawn service business. He was a Mason, an Army veteran, and a member of East Louisville Baptist Church. He also worked with the Louisville Police Department and the Winston County Sheriff’s Department. He is survived by his wife, Annie C. Cockrell of Louisville; two daughters, Melisa (Roy Dale) Fulton and Melanie (Cecil) Price, both of Louisville; three sons, Wayne (Annette) Cockrell of Hastings, Nebraska , Joel (Daphne) Cockrell of Louisville , and Wendell (Mary Lena) Cockrell of Perry , GA; 14 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren. Nick Oliver III
Nick Oliver, 72, of Ridgeland, died Thursday, September 29, 2011, in an automobile accident near Carthage, Ms along with Sue Vowell Oliver, his former wife, of Louisville, MS.Services will be held for both Nick and Sue on Wednesday, October 5, 2011, at 10am at the Scotland Baptist Church near Winona, Ms. Nick will be buried near his family in Scotland Cemetery, and a procession will follow afterward to the Mount Zion Cemetery in Choctaw County, Ms, for the burial of Sue near her family.
There will be a joint visitation on Tuesday evening, October 4, from 5 to 8pm at the Oliver Funeral Home in Winona, MS.
Nick was a native of Vaiden, MS, and a graduate of Vaiden High School. He earned a BA in Engineering from Mississippi State University where he met and married Sue Vowell from Choctaw County. Nick was awarded the MBA from Delta State University while raising three children and working full time at Baxter Laboraties. He was a charter member of St. Luke Methodist Church in Cleveland, MS, retired from Mississippi Vocational Rehabilitation Services and was active in the Scotland Baptist Church of Winona, MS.
Nick was preceded in death by his parents, Randolph Oliver and Eura Dell Rogers Oliver; daughter, Elise Oliver McDaniel; and granddaughter, Annabella Oliver Kollatz.
Nick is survived by his daughter Amie Oliver Kollatz of Richmond, VA; son, Mark Saxon Oliver of Fremont, CA; two grandsons, Justin Farr of Canton, Ms and Luke Oliver of Fremont, CA; three granddaughters, Lauren and Kristen McDaniel of Navarre, FL, and Nina Zhou Oliver of Fremont, CA; three great grandchildren; brother Bobby Oliver and his wife, Shirley, of Winona, MS. and their children Walter and Ruth Marie.
Nick's friends and extended family will remember him as a genuine southern character. He was a teller of (mostly true) tall tales who loved epic westerns, the MSU Bulldogs and his ornery cat, Buster.

Sue was a Choctaw County native and graduate of Weir High School. She continued her education at East Central Community College, received her B.A. in Education at Mississippi State University where she met and married William R. "Nick" Oliver from Winona. Sue earned her Masters degree in Education from Delta State University while raising three children and working for the Mississippi Department of Public Welfare. She was a charter member of the St. Luke Methodist Church in Cleveland, Ms. After Sue retired as a county supervisor from the Welfare Department she was active in the First United Methodist Church of Louisville, MS. She loved to travel and spend time with her family.
Sue was preceded in death by her parents Earl and Maude Vowell of Choctaw County, sisters Mary Pearl Walters, Sarah Romedy, brothers Woodrow, Herbert, T. J., Aaron, and Mike Vowell; daughter Elise Oliver McDaniel and granddaughter Annabella Oliver Kollatz.
Sue is survived by her daughter, Amie Oliver Kollatz of Richmond, VA; son, Mark Saxon Oliver of Fremont, CA; two grandsons, Justin Farr of Canton, Ms and Luke Oliver of Fremont, CA; three grandaughters, Lauren and Kristen McDaniel of Navarre, FL, and Nina Zhou Oliver of Fremont, CA; three great grandchildren; and siblings, Frederick Vowell of Ackerman, MS, Joe Vowell of McCool, MS, Ruth Reed of Glen Allen, MS and Margerite Sisson of Paducah, KY. Sue's family tree includes an orchard of beloved nieces and nephews that span the Mid-Atlantic region. Sue will be remembered for her strong, independent, resilient spirit and generous nature.

Mr. Terry Gene Palmer, 57, died Monday, October 3, 2011, at his home in Louisville, MS. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, Oct. 5th, at Porter Funeral Home, with Rev. David Keen officiating. Interment will be in Ellison Ridge Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Porter Funeral Home.
Mr. Palmer was born May 3, 1954, in Louisville, MS. He was a 1972 graduate of Nanih Waiya High School. He was the meat market manager at Piggly Wiggly for many years, and worked at Vowell’s Marketplace.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Virgia Arrington and Kerney Palmer.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Ann Puckett Palmer of Louisville; a daughter, Lori (Shawn) White of Louisville; a granddaughter, Isabella Grace White; two sisters, Patricia Ann Gregory and Betty Fay Smith, both of Brandon, MS; and a brother, Karith Palmer of Baton Rouge, LA.
