Velma Hooks

Mrs. Velma Ruth Hooks, 96, died Monday, January 31, 2011, at her home in Louisville, MS. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, February 3rd at Porter Funeral Home, with Rev. Brett Golson and Rev. Billy Bowie officiating. Visitation is from 5:00 to 8:00 PM Wednesday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Murphy Creek Cemetery. Porter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Hooks was born January 7, 1915, in Chickasaw County, MS. She was a retired customer service representative for Spartus Corporation, and a member of First Baptist Church. She was a member of Eastern Star, The Joy Club, and The Grace Sunday School Class at First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Caleb Hooks Sr.; a son, George Caleb Hooks Jr.; her parents, Arthur D. Ruth and Edna Irene Thomas; four brothers, Gilman Ruth, B.T. Ruth, Charles Ruth, Leon Ruth, and Grady Ruth; and one sister, Dorothy Faye Acker. She is survived by one daughter, Ouida (William) Donald of Louisville, MS; two sons, Kenneth E. Hooks of Louisville, MS and Johnnie Horace (Pat) Hooks of Howell, MI ; a sister, Lavelle Haggard of Mobile, AL; 10 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren. Mrs. Hatcher, 92, died Saturday, January 29, 2011 at Neshoba County Nursing Home.

She was a native and lifelong resident of Neshoba County. Mrs. Hatcher was a member of Longino United Methodist Church. She was a retired seamstress from Wells-Lamont Corporation.

Survivors include her daughter, Jean Henry and her husband, P. J. of Union; granddaughter, Tanya Thomas and her husband, Bryan of Carthage; grandson, Ryan Henry and his wife, Susan of Meridian; great-granddaughter, Caroline Thomas and great-grandson, Parker Thomas, both of Carthage; sisters, Oleta Chunn of Philadelphia, Bettye Jo Coward and her husband, Olyn of Pickinsville, AL, Mae Barnett and her husband, Ed of Raymond and Faye Luke of Noxapater.

She was preceded in death by her husband, R. B. Hatcher; her parents, Edgar Sr. and Betty Price and one brother, Edgar Price, Jr.

Mr. Charlie L. Barfield, 68, passed away on Sunday, January 30, 2011, at Winston Medical Center in Louisville, Mississippi. Visitation will be at Nowell-Massey Funeral Home in Louisville, Mississippi, on Monday, January 31, 2011, from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Visitation will also be held at Union Ridge Baptist Church in Noxapater, Mississippi, on Tuesday, February 1, 2011, from 1 p.m. until service time. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 1, 2011, at Union Ridge Baptist Church in Noxapater, Mississippi, with burial following in Union Ridge Cemetery with Rev. Greg Thomas officiating. Mr. Barfield was a member of Union Ridge Baptist Church and, by profession, he was an iron worker. He served in the U. S. Army and was a member of the National Guard.

He is survived by his wife, Peggy Ann Barnett Barfield of Noxapater, Mississippi; one daughter, Patricia Ann Barfield Stewart of Morton, Mississippi; one son, Michael Stanley of Noxapater, Mississippi; two sisters, Carol Byars of South Carolina and Eva Mize of Birmingham, Alabama; one brother, James Harold Barfield of Meridian , Mississippi; four grandchildren, Heather Stewart, Travis Stanley, Steven Stanley, and Madison Stanley; and three great-grandchildren, Braxton and Brayden Stanley, and Rhyan Stewart. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Lewis and Mary Virginia Hatcher Barfield.

Serving as pallbearers will be Lamar Clark, Don Greenwood, Chris Young, Frank Ainsworth, Alan Barnett, and Allen Levins. Nowell-Massey Funeral Home, 724 North Columbus Avenue, Louisville, Mississippi, is handling local arrangements.

She was retired from The Winston County Journal, and was an avid photographer. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Zelma Earline Wood, and Esther Wood Duncan; and a brother, Walter C. Wood. She is survived by her sister, Lucille Wood of Louisville; a brother, Jim (Ann) Wood of Louisville; three nephews, Jim (Deborah) Duncan, James (Renee) Wood, and Scott Wood; great nephews, Greg Duncan; and two great-nieces, Brandi Duncan (Josh) Herrington and Megan Wood.

Junior Davis and Rev. Walter Simmons officiating. Mrs. Bouchillon was born to Clarence H. Goodin and Annie Mae Moody Goodin Strait on December 31, 1929. She was a homemaker, a member of Murphy Creek Baptist Church of Louisville, Mississippi, and a member of the Bond Homemaker Club.
Mrs. Bouchillon is survived by two daughters: Tara Aleta Puckett and husband, Ronnie, of Louisville, Mississippi, and Angie Webb and husband, Darrin, of Pelahatchie, Mississippi; three sons: Jimmy G. Bouchillon and wife, Judy; Michael J. Bouchillon and wife, Janie; Randy Bouchiloon and wife, Jane, all of Louisville, Mississippi; one sister: Thelma Roberts of Louisville, Mississippi; 11 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Jimmie A. Bouchillon; her parents, Clarence H. Goodin and Annie Mae Moody Goodin Strait; and one brother, Clinton H. Goodin.

Grady Leo McDonald,80, died Sunday, January 16, 2011 at Pine Crest Nursing Home in Hazlehurst. Visitation will be 5-8pm Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at Chancellor Funeral Home in Byram. Services will be 2pm Thursday in the funeral home chapel with a one hour visitation prior to the service. Interment will follow at Lakewood South.
Mr. McDonald was a native of Preston, MS, born August 4, 1930 to the late James Edgar McDonald and Lessie Donald McDonald. A longtime resident of Jackson, Mr. McDonald was retired as First Sergeant, serving in the Air Force, Army and National Guard for 36 years and also retired as Post Master from USPS. He was an umpire and referee for public and private school sports for over 40 years, a Mason and member of the Forest Hill Lodge and a past Worthy Patron for the Order of the Eastern Star. Mr. McDonald was also a member of Raymond Road Baptist Church.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Eudean McDonald. Survivors include his sons Michael (Dixie) McDonald of Clinton and Larry (Tina) McDonald of Greer, SC; daughter Angela (Steve) Foote′ of Crystal Springs; brother Linwood McDonald of Meridian; sisters Leddie Hill of Collinsville, Maxine Gandy of D’Iberville and Joyce Sullivan of Louisville; 17 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
